Jason Sager of EMU was 12 of 12 from the floor and 2 of 2 from the line for 26 points with 10 rebounds in 31 minutes versus E&H.  Yeah, I know it was a loss and it was a "Wasps" game, but those are potential Player of the Week stats.

Sager is excellent, but I'll vote for Bienemann. He scored 80 points this week to lead the Gennies to a 2-1 record in the ODAC.

Just in case nobody else has noticed - after W&L plays at EMU on Wednesday, they will have 7 of 9 at home to finish out the season. Go Generals! ;)

After today's win over EMU, Guilford is now 7-2 in the ODAC.  The press release saying 6-2 is in error.

Yeah, that's a pretty good week for Bienemann, especially with 2 wins.  Sager got 15 today against the Quakers, but EMU had an 0-3 week.  I was just saying you can't have stats much better than those for a game.

Exciting week for the conference!  Thrills and spills.

As for Guilford, down and ups.  It was lovely to see scoring coming from all over the place today, with 20 assists led by Kimbrough.  Burge was on fire and the bench came through big time.  Nice second half.  I'm rooting for that kind of play to carry forward to next weekend.

After bantering a bit with a fellow poster on email, I stated that Virginia Wesleyan probably would not make a clean sweep of their regular season ODAC schedule.

Please note I didn't say they wouldn't win the tournament, or successfully defend their NCAA title.

Could someone verify when the last time was that an ODAC school swept the regular season, if it's been done (I want to say Hampden-Sydney in 1999)?

jacketlawyer, according to the ODAC website, W&L went 10-0 in 1978-79 and HSC went 18-0 in 1999-2000.  An ODAC men's team has won the regular season with one loss in '77, '78, '81, '83, '84, '91, '94, '95, '03 (RMC and HSC were both 17-1) and '06.

Thanks Hasanova.  Appreciate the stats, too.

Will the Marlins join this select group this year, I wonder?

Yes, the Marlins will join that select group this year!

JWW, you have to love a guy who roots for his team!  :)  The Marlins are a fine team and I'd say it's certainly very possible for VWC to run the table, but I hope they stumble at least once - preferably next Sunday in Greensboro, NC!  lol  I'll be there.  If any VWC fans/posters are in Ragan-Brown, I look forward to the opportunity to say hello!  Peace

You're welcome, Jacketlawyer.  No problem.  The ODAC website has some pretty good historical information.  Just go to men's basketball and the links are on the left hand side of the screen that shows the current league standings.  You were pretty darn close on your '99 guess of HSC going 18-0, but it was actually a year later in 2000.

Nova - no tripping, no stumbling...just good, old fashioned run and gun basketball Marlin-style! Coach Macedo says the Marlins are getting a little better with each outing so I expect them to be pretty good at Guilford. I wish I could be there. Right now I'm focused on the ODAC championship in Salem. I suspect the team hotel will be the Clarion(or whatever it's called) once again. And, I'll have to have dinner at Mac & Bob's I suppose!

It's very doubtful I'll make a weekday 1st round game in Salem, but if the Quakers are still playing on the weekend then there's a good chance I'll be there!  I look forward to meeting you and other posters then.  It's a little scary to hear the Marlins are getting a little better with every game, but here's hoping the Quakers give it their best shot on Sunday.
