Hey Sludge did I call it (POW) or what? ::)

Yeah, you sure nailed it, Bienemann.  I look forward to seeing him play, but hoping for a W for my team.

And that Hunsiger sounds like a monster on the court.

The Marlins move up to #4 and The Quakers slip to #25 with their 2-1 week.  This weekend's games will be big.

Anyone breathing here?  It has been mighty quite.

A possible difficult week for the Marlins.  HSC tonight and then the DREADED road trip this weekend of E&H and Guilford.  Although the Marlins put a HURTING on all three of these teams the first go around it could be interesting.  HSC, I believe is the last ODAC team to beat VWC when they did it in Norfolk last year.  And we all know that Guilford and E&H are traditionally MUCH better teams at home than on the road.

Let's go fish!!!

I believe the next three games will define the Marlins' season. The Tigers are at The Batten Center tonight and the HSC alumni will be there in full force. The Tigers won by 12 in last year's contest. Then it's on to the far west part of the state for E&H and then back tracking for Guilford. For some reason, this annual roadtrip is tricky. The weather always seems interesting. Good luck to the Fish starting tonight!

That's weird. Justafan02 and I posted at the same time with the same message!

I agree.  If the Marlins are to stumble during the regular season, this is the stretch.  I'm sure Macedo has prepared the troops well, though, and I'm looking forward to an interesting week.

Times like these continually reaffirm why I'm an ODAC fan! 8)

Out of pure business curiosity, I'd like to know how well the Fish fans travel.  Their presence in Salem during the tournament has been good for the past few years, but I'm wondering how they do during the regular season.  Will the Fish Faithful be in Emory?  Greensboro?

The Fish faithful usually consist of some of the players' parents and the Fun Tour bus driver! Been there, done that.

Mr. Warren,

I gave you some applause for the similar post.  Saw Peter at the alumni game, didn't really want to leave him open as usual.

On the topic of fish fans following (that is alliteration by the way):  As an alum and someone who still hangs around VWC the away game attendance can't be so good aside from parents and bus drivers because the home attendance is quite sad.

Ofcorse, the fair weather fans come out to the Batten Center for NCAA tourney time, but the regular season support for all athletics across the board is pathetic in my opinion.  I mean the women are in first place and barely get 30 people at the games (regardless of the supposed attendance count).

I have not seen a capacity crownd since the first year the Batten Center opened (the fish were undefeated at home that year) other than the tournament games.

I don't know if it is the commuter world not coming back to campus or the lack of interest.  Don't get me wrong though, the crowd is OK but is no where near the some of the more established ODAC schools.

In my undergraduate college years, 1970-74, we almost all went to the home games because a) cable TV had not yet been created b) if you did have a 9" B/W TV in your room with rabbit ears you got 3, maybe 4 (PBS), channels c) less than half of us had a car and there was no mall anyway d) cell phones had not yet been invented e) iPods had not yet been invented f) the internet and PC's had not yet been invented g) video games had not yet been invented h) televised ACC or SEC basketball games were on maybe once a week, not every night, and i) the level of play in "small" colleges was not as diluted as it is now (hundreds of teams that used to be NAIA or college division are now DI).

In short, when you have no car, no money, no television, no computer, no cell phone and hadn't talked to your friends in 3 days, where else would you go?  Modern students (and fans) have too many distractions to worry about actually going to the gym to see the game.  Too bad.   I thoroughly enjoyed my four years watching great basketball in packed gyms!

Shucks, I'm conflicted about who to root for in tonights game at H-SC.  Guilford is bordered above and below by those teams.

OK, H-SC it is, then.  :o

I recall my attendence at R-M basketball games as being consistent, and when I was living in Richmond after graduation, I was good for several games a year.  Obviously I don't get to many in Ashalnd now.

I do understand the distractions of today's college students, but I lament them, too.  I'd give anything to see an NCAA title at Randolph-Macon.  Well almost anything.  I'd stop short of giving a kidney, but I'd definitely think about it. . . . ;D

I missed one home game in four years and that was because I foolishly thought I would study for a Calculus exam in the library.  I had a transistor radio with an earplug and honestly wrote down more basketball stats than I did derivatives.  lol  Never again!  After that, I just went to the game, studied to the wee hours of the morning and took my lumps in class the next day.  :)

jacketlawyer, I'm also pretty sure I wouldn't give a kidney, but a splenectomy is almost a no brainer.  What are those things for anyway?  lol  Go Quakers!

Oh how I long for the days of Tiger basketball in Gammon Gym. So many people crammed in that it would give a fire marshall chest pains.  No AC...not even a regulation sized court. It was almost impossible to get to your seat once the game started without walking on the court. God help the officials and visiting team. What a blast!!  As Hasa said...just too much other stuff going on for kids these days.

Not much of a game tonight in Norfolk.  I don't know the stats yet but HSC was horrific offensively.  The Marlins defense was a factor but HSC continually missed open shot after open shot and we arent' talking 3's...layups etc.

VWC  played well but they weren't great.  However, they are just that much better than HSC right now w/ the injuries.

I tip my cap to the young man who is out, who came to the game on crutches.  I am assuming one of HSC injured players.  This kid was into every second of the game trying to motivate his teammates.
