Interesting comments back there for algernon;  flowers to him.  H-SC has had quite an amazingly consistent record of wins over the years.

The Muckraker and I are heading to Lynchburg for the Guilford game.  Looking for the Quakers to finish the regular season strongly.

That game against the W-L Generals was a gift that we can't depend on.  We need big effort, every game, all game to win.  If a thing's worth doing, its worth doing well.

Hey, sludge.  Safe travels to you and muckraker today.  I look forward to your report when you return from LC.  You're right, the Quakers were soooooo lucky to hang on at W&L.  When Bienemann stepped to the line with 0.3 seconds to go, missing both is not the outcome I would've bet on.  Whew!

Quakers end on a 25-9 run to win at LC 95-70.  Snipes had 39 - nine 3's in 14 attempts and 14 of 20 overall from the floor.  Strong with a double-double 15 points (13 in 2nd)/10 rebounds & Belkoski with 14.  LC led by Echols with 20 & Safo with 15.  The Quakers outrebounded the Hornets, 51-33.  GC now 16-3, 10-3 & LC is 6-15, 3-11 after dropping their 9th game in a row.

I hope that Hampden-Sydney has different officials when they play Macon in two weeks because they will lose to Macon if they don't.  Today's officials allowed hand checking galore and a little jersey pulling.  At the start of the second half, the Tigers couldn't get open for an inbounds.  And don't even get me started on the two five-seconds inbounds calls that Jerry Sloan's protégé or CRIT (Crappy Referee in Training) made.  I welcome others insights into the officials today because I may have seen a different game!

I do have to give E&H credit though.  They got down early but kept on fighting and got back into the game by halftime.  They continued their good play in the 2nd half and took advantage of their opportunities.  Reasbeck was a killer down the stretch as he hit two threes and a few free throws in the final 3-4 minutes.  The Tigers now have to travel to Guilford.  Hopefully they will be ready to play a tough Quakers team.  They need this win to keep their shot at 3rd place.

I think Guilford won with better shooting, ball handling and rebounding.

In the first half, Snipes was on fire with 23 points and many threes.  He's doesn't need alot of room to get his shot.  He hit 9-14 from 3 point range for the game, and at 39 nearly nailed his career high for the game.  Guilford is hard to handle when Snipes is on to that extent.

In the second half, scoring was more varied.  Belcoski was getting great feeds in the paint, and Strong got his shots in spite of the sleepy refs.  Strickland showed a willingness to shoot, and Kimbrough seemed happy to be dishing out lots of assists, hitting free throws and stealing the ball.

Guilford owned the boards;  Strong had 10 rebounds and Neville and Burge combined for another 11.  Barry Wells had a remarkable 4 rebounds in 3 minutes against a 7-foot bench player.

It seemed like there were lots of assists in this game; a handsome game.

If Guilford plays like this, they could beat Hampden-Sydney on Wednesday.

One more thing:  my hat is off to Snipes for that nice 4-point play in the second half!

More on Lynchburg: It seemed like there is fine potential there for the team.  Seems like they need to work on ball handling and assists.

Steven Echols had a great game; a deadly shooter.  I was surprised to learn later that he's a freshman.  Looked like a starter to me.

Kwame Safo played really well and had an uncanny ability to score layups from a half court offense.  Great moves.

algernon, nice work.   On HSC's prospects, however, you have 8-12 as the worst case scenario.  May I assume you meant 8-10?

Hasanova ... Thanks for seeing that mistake.  I've gone back to the post to correct it ... and have also made revisions to reflect today's wins by VWC over W&L and RMC over Roanoke.

You're welcome.  It just caught my eye when I saw the W's and L's didn't total 18.  Looks like VWC is definitely going to be seeded #1.  I'm very hopeful the Quakers can finish strong and lock up the #2 seed.  Hopefully, Snipes' great game on Saturday got him out of the doldrums and he'll finish on a roll.  To play at their best, Guilford needs Snipes to complement Strong.  I'm also very impressed by Belkoski's solid contributions this season.  When your #3 guy is getting 12-18 points per game, you're going to win a lot of games.  Good luck to everyone the next two weeks.

If any Tiger fans are going to be in Greensboro Wednesday night, let me know.  I'll be happy to help with directions and would certainly like to say hello.
