Dodged a bullet here in the mountains of VA. Did get a little ice but a degree or two colder and it would have been an icy mess. Bubba have a 4WD truck that will climb a tree but even Bubba don't mess around with no ice.  8) Sorry Hasa...I know that last sentence gave you chest pains.  ;D
Any plan in place for posters to get together in Salem next weekend? You know, a reserved seating area at mid court or maybe a hospitality room with stocked bar? ;D  Hey Pat, can't you throw your weight around a little with Brad Bankston and hook us up?  ;)
Hey, allsky7, I was born and raised in a place called Claudville (Patrick County, VA).  If you take the time to find it, you'll realize sentences such as that are rampant.  lol  No interpretation is needed.  lol  When we go home, my brothers and sisters and I compare notes on lines we hear at the local general stores or on the signs we see in front of such and such Holiness Church.  They're pretty funny, actually.  Consider this conversation overhead at my childhood friend's country store this past weekend:

Bubba:  Hey Mike, I saw this "thang" in the Stuart Enterprise the "udder" day where "somebuddy" was fixin' to sell a used two-story mobile (rhymes with slow file) home!
Mike:  Bubba, you damn fool, "dere" ain't no such "thang" as a two-story mobile home!
Bubba:  Well, by golly, dere oughta be for people what's got money!

I rest my case!  lol  PS I have a two 4-wheel drive vehicles, so let's go!

Was in Patrick County last summer for Floydfest. They call it Floydfest but it is held just over the Floyd Co line in PC just off the BR Parkway. It is a beautiful spot. Had a great time hippie watching and listening to some great bands.  ;D
BTW....I can't even find Claudville on the map.  :o

sludge - See you tonight for W&L!  I hope the Quakers continue to play well.  An opportunity for #20 tonight - and that hasn't happened in a long time.  Hopefully, seniors Snipes and Burge will have great outings in their last regular season game at Ragan-Brown.

I'm under the weather today, but I think I'll be there.  I'd arrive with the Muckraker and probably an additional crew of three.

Its an interesting game whenever we play the Generals.  They do have talent, no doubt about that.  I hope the home game (for Guilford) is way less dramatic than the away game.

Claudville (24076) is a few miles north of the NC border on Hwy 103.  That highway runs 24 miles through Surry County, NC and Patrick County, VA from Main Street in Mt. Airy, NC to its T-intersection with Route 8 about 7 miles south of Stuart, VA.  It's geographically pretty country, but definitely has its economic realities when you get out of college.  :)

Hey.  I just moved into ODAC country, and I was wondering:  Is the ODAC tournament top 4 or top 8 teams?

Welcome  to the ODAC. They take the top 8.

More likely to be a greenhouse now than a still, but they're still there too.  When I was a boy, I found a revenuer's badge that once belonged to my maternal grandfather in a bureau.  He died in 1948, so I never met him.  When I asked my grandmother how much he got paid for that duty, she said "Albert didn't get paid anything, he just got to keep the sugar!"  lol  My, how times have changed!  :)

Guilford over W&L 90 - 77.  Seniors Snipes (double-double 30-10) and Burge (10-5)  played great all around games on Senior night, together with a fine team effort.

Roanoke over Bridgewater, 60-43.

RMC over EMU, 73-48.  Not sure what else is going on.

Actually, sludge, I just came from the game and the final was 95-77.  My stats are unofficial, but I had Snipes with 32, Strong with 18 and Burge with 6.  I had Guilford with a dozen three-pointers, but W&L must have had many more - it seemed like 20!  (I just checked.  The Generals had 14 made, which is a new W&L record.)  I'll check the official boxscore and update this post with the correct figures.  Guilford missed about three FT's late, but still finished 17 of 21 by my count.  Wish you had been there - Ben had a nice reverse dunk tonight.  Sweet!  :)

What are the tiebreaker situations.  I know that the loser of the sydney-macon game will be the 6th seed, but what about 3,4, and 5.  Say Emory and Roanoke both win Saturday...Who would get what seed and based on what tiebreaker???  What if both lose???  Who gets the tiebreaker with E&H, Roanoke, and the winner of the HSC-RMC game???  What if Emory wins and Roanoke loses or vice versa...just wondering if anyone had any thoughts or facts on the upcoming situation.

Hopefully for Emory there will be no need for a tiebreaker if they beat GC on Saturday.  GC is definitely a big time team this year, and it will take a heck of an effort for the Wasps to knock them off.  Hopefully GC will be looking ahead to the ODAC tournament...Special day for Wasp seniors Korey Townsend, Hank Luton, Anthony Hairston, Lance Reasback, and Danny Cantone.  Gonna miss them...

I'm not exactly sure how it works, but I think E&H has a significant tie-breaker for 3rd place since they defeated VWC.  This assumes, of course, that they split the season series with the team with whom they're tied.  If one of the two tied teams swept the other, then I think that's the first tie-breaker.  Is this correct?

gogenerals04

Here is my best effort at calculating potential ODAC tiebreakers, based on the conference's tiebreaking system:

If E&H (11-7) and Roanoke (11-7) tie for 3rd: E&H
If Roanoke (11-7) wins, and E&H (10-8) and HSC (10-8) tie for 4th: E&H
If Roanoke (11-7) wins, and E&H (10-8) and R-MC (10-8) tie for 4th: R-MC
If E&H (11-7) wins, and Roanoke (10-8) and HSC (10-8) tie for 4th: Roanoke
If E&H (11-7) wins, and Roanoke (10-8) and R-MC (10-8) tie for 4th: R-MC
If W&L (6-12) and Bridgewater (6-12) tie for 7th: Bridgewater

The fourth-place ties, in a sense, are meaningless, as it determines who wears the white jerseys in the quarterfinals. But now, the really fun ones:

If E&H, Roanoke and HSC (10-8) tie for 3rd: (3) E&H, (4) Roanoke, (5) HSC
If E&H, Roanoke and R-MC (10-8) tie for 3rd: (3) R-MC, (4) E&H, (5) Roanoke

I believe Randolph-Macon would have that last tiebreaker because of their head-to-head records--i.e., R-MC won three out of the four games (a sweep of Roanoke and a split with E&H) against the other two teams that they would tie. Of course, that scenario requires both Emory & Henry and Roanoke to lose on Saturday.

I wouldn't swear to anything above in a court of law, but hopefully I'm close on figuring out those tiebreakers.

gogenerals04, thanks for putting this together.  Makes sense to me.  Plus karma for you.  :)

Sea of Red

Did anyone see the HSC v LC game last night?  I heard that it was an old-fashioned beating until the zebras took over.  Reports of an 11-3 foul count at one point in the second half have yet to be substantiated, but that was the report I got.   Any corraboration?

algernon

gogenerals04 ..... I've looked at it and completely agree with what you've written.  Here are the possibilities for SEEDING FOR #3 THROUGH #6:

Emory & Henry defeats Guilford
Roanoke defeats EMU
Hampden-Sydney defeats Randolph-Macon

3) E&H   11-7
4) Roanoke   11-7
5) HSC   10-8
6) RMC   9-9

Emory & Henry would get the #3 seed, given their wins over both VWC and Guilford.

3) E&H   11-7
4) Roanoke    10-8
5) HSC   10-8
6) RMC   9-9

Roanoke would get the #4 seed over the Tigers based on the point system (50 points for beating a 1st place team, 45 points for beating a 2nd place team, 40 points for beating a 3rd place team, 35 points for beating the 4th place team, etc. etc.).  The Maroons have a win over Guilford and a 2nd win over Bridgewater, whereas the Tigers have a win over Randolph-Macon and a 2nd win over EMU.

3) E&H   11-7
4) RMC   10-8
5) Roanoke    10-8
6) HSC   9-9

Randolph-Macon is seeded #4 over Roanoke because they beat Roanoke twice.

3) Roanoke   11-7
4) E&H   10-8
5) HSC   10-8
6) RMC   9-9

Emory & Henry is seeded #4 over HSC on the basis of the point system, given their big win over the Marlins.

3) Roanoke   11-7
4) RMC   10-8
5) E&H   10-8
6) HSC   9-9

Randolph-Macon will be seeded #4 over Emory & Henry on the basis of the point system.

3) E&H   10-8
4) Roanoke   10-8
5) HSC   10-8
6) RMC   9-9

In the 3-way tie, all 3 teams are 2-2 against the other 2 teams.  On the basis of the 2nd tie-breaker, the point system, Emory & Henry would win the #3 seed (largely because of their victory over the Marlins) and Roanoke would get the #4 seed (largely because of their victory over the Quakers).

3) RMC   10-8
4) E&H   10-8
5) Roanoke    10-8
6) HSC   9-9

In the 3-way tie, RMC is 3-1 against the other two teams, E&H is 2-2, and Roanoke is 1-3, so the head-to-head to place RMC at #3, E&H at #4, and Raonoke at #5.

BOTTOM LINE:

1)   Emory & Henry can win the #3 seed by defeating Guilford.  They will be seeded #4 or #5 if they lose to the Quakers.

2)   Roanoke can win the #3 seed by defeating EMU, if the Wasps fall to the Quakers.  If Roanoke defeats EMU, they are assured of either the #3 or #4 seed; if they lose to the Royals, they will be seeded either #4 or #5.

3)   Randolph-Macon will be seeded #3, #4, or #5 if they defeat the Tigers, depending upon other games.  If they lose to the Tigers, they will be seeded #6.

4)   Hampden-Sydney will be seeded #5 if they defeat the Yellow Jackets.  If they lose to the Yellow Jackets, they will be seeded #6.
