but I dont think anyone can argue that Reasbeck is not a legit 2nd team all conference player, and could be a legit first teamer in a "regular" system.

I'll argue it.

He played in only 15 of 24 games, chucking up an average of 12 three-pointers a contest.  His 15.5 scoring average is accompanied by 2.9 rebounds, 1.4 steals, and 1.3 assists per game.

Heck, Hank Luton, Jarell Christian and Anthony Hairston all had better numbers (when you take away the chucking up of 3s).

I think my formula yielded fairly similar teams.  Using the same number of players per team (6 1st Teamers, 7 2nd Teamers, and 7 Honorable Mentions), this is what my formula would have yielded:

First Team
Ben Strong (POY) -  :)
Brandon Adair -  :)
Snipes -  :)
Sager -  :)
Bienemann -  :)
Balenga - 2nd team ODAC selection (Switch with David Carlson)

Second Team
Carlson - 1st team ODAC selection (Switch with Ton Ton Balenga)
Edwards -  :)
Peery -  :)
Reasbeck - Honorable Mention ODAC selection (Switch with Jeremy Dixon)
Prehmus - Honorable Mention ODAC selection (Switch with Phil Hawley)
Dowell  - no award (ODAC chose Josh LaPorte)
Murray - no award (ODAC chose Dominic Trawick)

Honorable Mention
Dixon - 2nd team ODAC selection (Switch with Lance Reasbeck)
Hawley - 2nd team ODAC selection (Switch with Drew Prehmus)
King -  :)
Echols -  :)
Parkes -  :)
Green - ODAC Scholar-Athlete (ODAC chose Justin Short)
Kusimo - no award (ODAC chose Josh Fox)

I would readily agree with and1wasp that it seems rather strange that Randolph-Macon finished 6th this year and yet ended up with not only a First Teamer, but also 2 Second Teamers.   I know that I must have seen the Yellow Jackets play one of their worst games of the season when they lost to Hampden-Sydney, but the team also lost to Lynchburg and EMU.  It leaves me wondering how a team that had 4 starters worthy of All-ODAC awards only finished with a 9-9 record.

I would very readily agree with David Carlson as a 1st Team selection.  He's a fabulous player.  However,  it's hard for me to understand why Jeremy Dixon and Phil Hawley made the 2nd Team, instead of other worthy 2nd Team candidates such as Lance Reasbeck, Tyler Murray, Drew Prehmus, A. J. Dowell, Femi Kusimo, Turner King, Steven Echols, or Brad Parkes.  Certainly Dixon's and Hawley's numbers are no better than the players I've just mentioned, and neither Dixon nor Hawley was impressive in the 2 games I saw them play this year.

Actually, I was most surprised that Justin Short received an Honorable Mention award.  I would rather have Matt Green on my team than Justin Short, and I think that the 2 players stats support my feeling:

SHORT, Justin...... 30.8 min/g,  .376 FG%,   .269 3FG%,  .699 FT%,   3.3 reb/g,  54 assists,  50 TO,  12 steals,   8.8 pts/g
GREEN, Matt........ 31.2 min/g,  .404 FG%,   .420 3FG%,  .806 FT%,   2.8 reb/g,  71 assists,  32 TO,  15 steals,   8.4 pts/g

That's just my opinion, but I guess that everyone's entitled to one and would be happy to hear from others.  I'll leave town within the hour for Salem.

Congratulations to Ben Strong on his POY award. Certainly deserved. Maybe life is more fair than I thought it might be !!!!

On another note; I'm totally confused on some of the selections for 2nd team and HM. Don't see how RMC has one first teamer; two second teamers and one HOM selection. They just don't have that kind of talant or either they are truly underachievers (sorry Jacketklawyer). How does a sixth seed place that many guys on the all conference team ? Not slamming Macon at all, I just don't get it .

Good Luck to all during the tourney. Hopefully the ODAC will get two teams into the NCAA's !!!!

Congrats to all the award winners.  Strong and Palumbo definetly are desearving of their awards and both should see more POY and COY from Regional and National awards as well.  They will represent the ODAC well!!!

I agree that Reasbeck is a 2nd teamer.  He was also a 2nd teamer as a sophomore in the "system" as well if I am not mistaken.  Balenga should have been a first teamer, but who really cares at this point, he will have plenty more awards to come.  Now it is on to the games and who will make ALL TOURNAMENT TEAM when it really counts?

Congrats to all.

TFA, I don't get it either, to be candid.  R-M's campaign this year made me want to stuff my head into the nearest panel of sheetrock (aka "the sheetrock shampoo."), then I remembered I'd already done that over our football team.  After a while, it begins to hurt. . . . . ;) ;D

My only hope is that the R-M players will live up to their billing in this tournament.

I am happy with Strong's POY award, and congratulations to him.

Thanks, tfa.  I'm sure Ben Strong and Coach Palombo are both very appreciative of their individual awards, but I also know they are all about "team."  So far, Guilford's had a very good season.  Without a doubt, the Quakers and their fans want to keep winning and see how far they can go.  Again, my congratulations to all the ODAC honorees.   We have a great DIII conference and I'm very much looking forward to today's games.  I hope to see as many of you as possible in Salem on Saturday!

lol  Thanks, but no apology necessary.  All "kid"ding aside, you don't know how much I hope that doesn't happen!  Anything's possible, of course, but I think I'll keep my money on the Quakers tonight.  Oh, were you talking about BC bringing more fans to today's game?  :)

Hey, allsky7, I checked the schedule - today's the day!  Tune in!  :)

Any word on the HSC vs. E&H game ?

http://www.d3hoops.com/schedule.php?team=mens&date=2007-02-22
101-100 HSC with about 6.5 seconds to go.  Tigers have to throw it in - expect a foul.  Tigers were ahead by 8 (I think), but Wasps fought back to take a 100-98 lead.  Then Edwards drilled a 24-footer for the Sydney lead with 10.4 seconds to go.  Wasps traveled on their trip up court and that's why the Tigers have possession now.  Stay tuned ...

Edwards missed his first FT.  TO with 5.3 seconds to go - still 101-100 HSC.
Edwards hits his second.  E&H can't convert.

Final HSC 102, E&H 100  Tigers advance to meet the Marlins.
