Disaster for GC at the half with BC up 45-21.  Eagles can do nothing wrong and Quakers can do nothing right.  Strong with 4 and Snipes scoreless.  Ouch.

Unless something crazy happens in the next minute, big upset by Bridgewater.  Does Guilford still have an NCAA hope?  I hope the committee can look at their season as a whole and give 'em a break.....

Triangle and 2 worked for BC in this case. Guilford should definitely get an atlarge!

Congratulations to BC.  Bitter loss and what now feels like a wasted season for GC.   I think the Quakers deserve an NCAA bid, but I bet they don't get one even at 21-4.  I won't be coming to Salem on Saturday, so good luck to all the remaining teams and fans.

Now, now.  I bet Guilford does get an atlarge.  They may be able to do some damage in the tournament, but they have to find third and fourth options.  Snipes (foul trouble) and Strong (the defense on him) didn't/couldn't show up tonight because of Bridgewater intensity.  And Bridgewater's huge halftime lead wasn't all peaches and cream for the Eagles.  This is how BC got the huge lead and held on:

1) Didn't turn it over a lot (only three in the first half)
2) As Llama mentioned, the triangle and two defense which frustrated Strong
3) Guilford was forced into shooting a lot of outside shots

Bridgewater only shot 50% from the field in the first half ... so it wasn't like they were shooting lights out.  It was Guilford lack of shooting (and/or BC's defense) that held the Quakers to only 26% shooting from the floor during the first 20 minutes.

Congrats to the Eagles for a HUGE win.  I bet they'll be fired up against RMC or RC on Saturday ... but hopefully they have the mindset that they belong.

Congratulations to VWC, Hampton Sydney, Bridgewater, and Roanoke for their victories today.  Some major upsets.  An interesting 24 hours.  I won't pretend to understand why some very talented players were not chosen  for 1st, 2nd team and honorable mention, but it is over and done with now and congratulations to those who were honored.  Now on to the semis and the ODAC championship.  I hope that Guilford does get a Pool C bid, but with the NCAA selection committee , you never know what they will do.  Guilford has had a tremendous season and they should be very proud.  I don't think any season is wasted.  The players earned a national ranking and came a long way from last year to become a dominant force in the ODAC.  Every team benefits from a good year and the confidence it gives the players to know they can win stays with them forever, in all aspects of their lives.   Hang in there Guilford, it's not over yet.  And to my Marlins, take it one game at a time.  Good luck to Brandon Adair.  21 more points to hit the magic 2000.  Don't make us wait too long Brandon!

Hey, allsky7, I checked the schedule - today's the day!  Tune in!  :)

Thanks Hasa. Been on the road all day. Had a big install at UVA and then went up to visit my good friends at BC. I have never in my life fought the wind as much as today.  :o Going over Afton Mountain from C-Ville towards Staunton, I literally thought my truck was going airborne.  UNREAL!!
Glad to see that the Tigers won. Must have been a whale of a game. I plan to be there Saturday. I'll be looking for you and anyone else that was at the Stagg Bowl. The rest of you folks will have to wear name tags to be recognized.  ;D

I'm glad to hear that Roanoke won (no offense intended to RMC supporters.)  Old friend and absentee colleague Jim Loesel must be having a good time watching his Maroons do well in the league and tournament.  Now he gets to take on our other old friend and almost-absentee colleague Steelyglen in the semifinals.  If you guys are out there lurking, best regards to you both!  :)

Hey fish, since Hasa is feeling down and out right now, I'll pick up the slack. It's HAMPDEN-SYDNEY.  ;D ;D  Founded in 1776, six months before the Declaration of Independence. Named for John Hampden and Algernon Sydney, two English patriots.  8)

I'll be OK.  I hope everyone understands my disappointment right now.   :-\  Good luck to the first round survivors.

Good comeback fish. I hope you are wrong but I like your wit.  8) No doubt the Tigers will have to bring their A game.

Hang in there Hasa. I know you are in agony right now. I think as long as VWC doesn't get upset, the Quakers should still be Ok. You know I have to pull for the Tigers but they will have to be hitting on all eight cylinders Sat. to pull the upset.  8)

Great win by the Tigers today, with 58% field goal percentage, and hitting 55% from beyond the arc.  Way too many turnovers (32!!) but they pulled it out at the end.  Emory and Henry had a 17-point lead in the first half and the Tigers tied it up by the time they went into the locker room.  The Tigers then led at one point in the second half by 13.

Tyler Murray had another huge game for the Tigers, with 26 points and 16 rebounds, as well as 2 blocks.  He's been an All-ODAC kind of performer all season and was obviously very happy about the win tonight.  Mike Edwards hit a couple of huge 3s, including the one with 10 seconds left, and finished up with 23 points, putting him over the 1000 point mark for his career.  Turner King had 12 point and 12 rebounds, Matt Green had 18 points, and Drew Prehmus had 13 more.  Fitz Robertson had 13 minutes of high intensity quality play.

For me, there was only one outcome today that seemed like a huge surprise .... the upset by #7 Bridgewater of #2 Guilford.  Good luck to the Eagles tomorrow as they attempt to pull off another upset of a higher seed. Otherwise, the results weren't terribly surprising .... The #1 Marlins beat #8 Washington & Lee by 34 points and #3 Roanoke beat #6 Randolph-Macon by 21 points.  Only the size of Roanoke's win was surprising. #4 Emory & Henry and #5 Hampden-Sydney, with identical ODAC records going into their 3 pm game, played to a near tie with a final score of 102-100.  Happily for Tiger fans, HSC was ahead at the buzzer.

Hasanova .... If Virginia Wesleyan wins the ODAC tournament, I think that Guilford is almost completely assured of a spot in the NCAA Tournament.  With a 21-4 record, including 2 losses to the defending national champions, the Quakers are nearly certain to get a bid if the Marlins win the ODAC's AQ.

On the other hand, if Roanoke, Hampden-Sydney, or Bridgewater wins the tournament, Virginia Wesleyan will get a Pool C bid, and that would make it a lot more chancy for Guilford.  With a 21-4 record, I think that the Quakers would still have a shot; however, in the event that someone defeats the Marlins, the Quakers will be on pins and needles from the time of the Marlin loss until the selections are announced on Sunday.

None taken.  It's been an off year for Randolph-Macon, and everyone has those at one point or another.  I think I knew the season was going to be difficult after the LC loss back in December.  My heartfelt thanks goes out to the R-M seniors.  I'm sure it wasn't how they wanted to end their last year, but they definitely made R-M hoops fun for us over the past four years.

If anyone should have a Jim Loesel encounter, please pass on my best.  There won't be any beers at the AllSports Cafe this time, but maybe next year. ;)
