Folks .... In my initial "All-ODAC Selections based on the Algernon Formula," I computed the stats on only a limited number of players .... including only those players with 10+ points plus a few others (Green, Fields, and Short).  I have added a few other players' stats, realizing that they might have All-ODAC stats, even though they didn't score as many as 10 points (Fantin, Belkoski, Tucker, Sumpter, and Terrell Dixon).

I have revised the formula to give half as much weight to TeamWin%, so it is now:

       PTS/G+R/G+ 2*A/G-1.5*TO/G+1.5*S/G+.75*B/G+10*FGpct+5*TEAMWINpct

Formula-based awards go to 4 Marlins, 2 Quakers, 3 Maroons, 1 Wasp, 3 Tigers, 2 Yellow Jackets, 0 Eagles, 2 Generals, 2 Royals, and 1 Hornet:

First Team
Ben Strong, GC (POY) -  :)
Brandon Adair, VWC -  :)
Jordan Snipes, GC -  :)
Jason Sager, EMU -  :)
Greg Bienemann, W&L -  :)
Ton Ton Balenga, VWC - 2nd team ODAC selection

Second Team
David Carlson, RMC - 1st team ODAC selection
Mike Edwards, HSC -  :)
Tyler Murray, HSC - no ODAC award
Tyler Fantin, VWC - no ODAC award
Lance Reasbeck, E&H - Honorable Mention ODAC selection
Curtis Peery, RC -  :)
Drew Prehmus, HSC - Honorable Mention ODAC selection

Honorable Mention:
Steven Echols, LC -  :)

Brad Parkes, EMU -  :)
Jeremy Dixon, RMC - 2nd Team ODAC selection
A. J. Dowell, RC - no ODAC award

I'll be OK.  I hope everyone understands my disappointment right now.   :-\  Good luck to the first round survivors.

Hang in there Hasa. I know you are in agony right now. I think as long as VWC doesn't get upset, the Quakers should still be Ok. You know I have to pull for the Tigers but they will have to be hitting on all eight cylinders Sat. to pull the upset.  8)

I'm with allsky7 on this one, Hasa.  I think your boys are going to the NCAAs in spite of this development.

I think you overlook the TIgers at your peril right now.  They're playing good, solid, inspired basketball.

From the sounds of the webcasts yesterday, the ODACs are as intense as ever. But i would not have expected macon and guilford to both lose. Darn...I guess a VWC vs. Macon III is no longer in the cards. Now...I think VWC controls its own destiny. Its now their tournament to win or lose.
VWC vs Hampden-Sydney. Semi-finals. Doesn't get a whole lot better than that in my book. Time for V-dub to get a little revenge. I remember the last time against Sydney at the ODACs was very painful to watch. I still don't know how we lost that game...up 14, then bam! down by 6 w/ 2 to go...but I digress. Its a different Marlin team this time and the Monroe/Randall/ days in Sydney are long over (not to take anything away from Edwards and Prehmus) Anyway, good luck to the rest of the teams and i can't imagine guilford not getting a nod from the ncaa. I will be listening, while i pack for my trip to Pennsylvania.  You will hear from me when I get back and hopefully will see y'all for NCAAs.

Thanks to everyone who's kept my spirits up for the Quakers.  As hard as this is to admit, their best bet seems to be if VWC wins the tournament again.  If someone else wins it, then the Marlins will definitely get a bid and there just may not be room for three from the ODAC.  I'll keep my hopes up until bids are announced.  This was absolutely the worst time for a flat game, but congratulations to BC.  Who would've figured Snipes to foul out with 2 points and Kimbrough would be the leading scorer for GC?  I guess that's "why they play the games."  :-\

Dear POY(Poster of the Year) Senor Nova - isn't college basketball at this level the damnedest thing you have ever experienced? I can well remember the horrible feeling of one game and out during #44's first year, then it was two and out his sophomore year, three and out his junior year, and finally a championship his senior year. So, my friend, patience wins out eventually.

Randolph-Macon went from a 22-7 NCAA Tournament team last year to a 14-12 6th-place team this year.  It's not surprising that they had difficulties, since they lost Wansley and Gill to graduation, as well as Alex Irmer, Nick Annacone, and Derrick DeLaGrana, all freshmen, to who-knows-what?

Next year may be even more challenging for the Yellow Jackets, since they lose 4 of their 8 or 9 most productive players to graduation (Hawley, Krovic, Sutherland, and Sisson).  They'll have Carlson, Dixon, Short, Varela, and Hunter coming back, presumably, but there are some ODAC teams that are losing very little to graduation (Roanoke, Bridgewater, Washington & Lee, for instance).

Succinct analysis as ever.  Hopefully we can recruit to fill in the void left by these four seniors.  I've got faith in Rhoades, though, and I think we'll be back in 2008.

Sorry about yesterday's result. Never would have figured. I want Guilford in the NCAA's but with VWC playing my Tigers I can't pull for VWC to win.

Three ODAC teams will not make the NCAA's. If VWC is upset I'm afaird Guilford will be out; the probability is that VWC will win and Guilford will get the nod.

Good luck to all

A player from Emory gets screwed...imagine that...Macon finishes 6th and has a first teamer and 2 second teamers.  2 players on second team average under 10ppg while Reasbeck gets 15 a game for a 4th place team and gets left out...I guess the system hurts chances at individual awards, but I dont think anyone can argue that Reasbeck is not a legit 2nd team all conference player, and could be a legit first teamer in a "regular" system.

You're probably right. Reasbeck is a very nice player. I think the system hurts your chances for individuals to stand out. Consider this 15 pts a game is a lot; but not much when your team averages 109.

I'm going to apologize now for Bridgewater defeating Guilford tonight. :-\

Yes, jww, I know you're right, but yesterday was not easy to take.  No offense meant to BC, but I would have bet a $1000 the Quakers would not be down 24 at halftime.  lol  Oh well.  :)

Thanks.  I understand you have to pull for your Tigers.  I agree with your analysis:  GC's best bet is for VWC to win the ODAC tournament.  Even then it may be iffy.  We'll see.  :)

I knew this bad dream would keep recurring.  lol

I am pretty confident Reasbeck would be a first teamer in a "normal" system.  I heard on a HSC radio broadcast that he is one of the few players they would pay money to watch play.  So, i guess I am not the only one who feels that way...Oh well, the only thing that matters is the games but a little individual recognition to a senior who had to deal with ALOT of tough love from the coaching staff isnt too much to ask, right?   :)

Apology accepted, kid.  And thanks to all for the encouragement for Guilford College.  Watching that game was pretty mysterious.

Hasanova's just in shock.  He'll get his game back.
