The new name will be Randolph College, and it will be a few years before they can have an actual program, and I honestly don't think it will be a legitimate program any time in the near future if their present sports program is any indication of what the men's programs will be like.

Accurate statement.  I've heard they plan to offer mens' basketball, soccer, tennis and cross-country.  I'm sure the usual obstacles in establishing these sports will manifest.

Well, I just got my tickets to the VWC game on Friday and can't wait to see both HSC and VWC do well Friday night. I regret that I cannot attend the fourth game of the year between HSC and VWC (assuming they take care of business in the first round) because I have to work on Saturday.

I also filled out my brakcets and believe I have no chance of actually winning this thing with my Final Four picks: Hope, Hampden-Sydney, Amherst, and Wooster. I think two of these picks are solid, but the other two are questionable at best. If HSC weren't in the tournie I would pick VWC to make it from the South Sectional but alas once a Tiger, always a Tiger.

Hey, you have to admire a man who's "true to his school"!  Have a great time Friday night!

will there be any odac pick em this year with round by round picks? or will we have to be content with the D3hoops pick at the onset?

tigerphil

I was just wondering what ODAC posters thought of three teams in the tournie

Hood is a differenct animal.  They were a women's college in Frederick, MD that got within a hair of bankruptcy before going co-ed 4 years ago.  They convinced a well-respected local high school coach (Tom Dickman), who has several state championships and an NBA player on his resume, to take over the program.  That they have acheived this much in such a short time is amazing.

Randolph College is the new, co-ed version of Randolph Macon Women's College in Lynchburg, VA.  They start sports next year and will be ODAC members.

(I only know the above because I lived in Frederick for 20 years and lost to a lot of Dickman coached teams, and now I live in Lynchburg.  Handy  :))

Will they have men's programs or just women's programs next year?

I have been a passive observer on this board for a long time now and i have been a fan of RMC basketball since i attended and graduated from there in the early 21st century.  I wanted to piggy back off of what 3sdown said a couple days ago.  Mike Rhoades is, without a doubt one of the best coaches in the country at any level.  I was at R-MC for the very successful years where Mills, Smith, Brunt, Bergmann, Stein and others would impose their will game in and game out and would just beat the balls off of teams.  Those days seem like long ago in Ashland and it is in no way, shape, or form the fault of Mike Rhoades and his staff.  They work harder to prepare, recruit, and improve their players than anyone i have ever seen in the college ranks.  Rhoades makes men of boys and backs his players up during and after their careers have come to a close.  It pains me to hear of the situation in ashland with parents complaining about the coaching.  Hey parents; shut your damn mouths you have no clue what is going on.  Have you ever thought about the fact that your kid is a soft bitch who doesnt want to bring it everyday and help his team win? Let the kids play the game and be quiet.  Rhoades is a proven winner, your kid is not.  If i know rhoades like i think i do, he is going to get right on the recruiting trail and recruit some hard nosed kids who just want to win.  Macon will be back and if anything, i feel relieved that the cancers of this prestigious program have finally been removed. Thank god for graduation. Good luck to VWC, HSC, and GC in the tournament

QQQ--yep, L'burg resident myself, so I know what you're talking about!! ;D  With as many alumni in my family from R-WC as well as R-MC, I've been privy to all of the opera over Randolph College.  Ad nauseum.  I was sorry they went co-ed, but since the decision has been made, I wish them all the luck in the world.

Hood is going to give teams a lot of match up problems.  There very smart with the ball and extremely well coached...do not take them lightly

i agree with what Stevie said......... Rhodes is without a doubt a great coach.. and lets not forget that he was National Player of the Year while leading his team at Lebanon Valley to the National Championship.....   hey if any parents carry those kind of laurels than let them speak, otherwise shut up....... Its kind of like one of those Bud Light Real Men of Genius Commericals where it somethin along the lines of "for those who cant play.... coach...and for those who cant coach, they sit 5 rows back yelling strategically shouting comments like..... catch the ball!!!"

What is going on in Ashland regarding Coach Rhoades ?

If people within the program are on his back they are absolutely crazy and know nothing about basketball and what it takes to win. Coach Rhoades is an outstanding person and Coach that any kid should love to play for and any parent SHOULD love their kid to play for. If a kid goes into that program and sticks it out he will come out a better player, but more importantly, a better person. If people are trying to run him off RMC and everyone involved with RMC better look in the mirrow and get the situation straight before it is too late. They could never hope to have a better person as their head coach and this is coming from a HSC fan.

Thanks for posting your opinion, TFA.  I think it's spot on. :)

I don't know anything about what may, or may not, be going on at R-MC, and I'm loathe to speculate.  But I will goes as far as to echo your very well expressed opinion.

Eventually Coach Rhoades will move on from R-M (and I'm sure he's already had the opportunities to do so), and to be honest, as an R-M alumnus and fan, I fear the day when it comes.

Coach Nunnally was a very close friend and Coach Rhoads was basically hand picked by Coach Nunnally to take over the program. I would just be shocked if RMC doesn't do all they can to keep Rhoades on staff, than again, you look at the rest of the RMC sports programs and they are all in the dumper with the exception of the mens and girls b'ball teams, so maybe the administration isn't capable of recognizing coaching talent. F'ball program is in bad shape, baseball average, lacrosse below average... basketball is all RMC has right now and Rhoades is the foundation for that.
Nothing is guaranteed in life but I could not imagine how the RMC program could be anything but satisfied with Coach Rhoades.
