Guiford Has just won. they beat that team mahantanville pretty bad. Go quakers. They won 101 to 81
Quakers shot 61.3% (38/62).  Strong had 24 and Snipes had 18.  Ten Quakers scored.  Sanborn 10, Justin Strickland 12 and Belkowksi 10 all in double figures.  Kimbrough "only" had 8, but was a perfect 3 for 3, two were 3-pointers.  Good all around game.  Congratulations to the Quakers and Tigers!  Now, Go Marlins!

Congrats to the Quakers and Tigers. Hasa....not sure how good Manhattanville is but nice statement game for the Quakers.
WHEW...It wasn't pretty but the Tigers managed to get the W. Sometimes you have to win the ugly ones but they will need a better effort tomorrow night no matter who they play.

Thanks.  Congratulations to the Tigers as well!  Well, it was a nice "statement" game for GC.  It was 4-4 and then the Quakers spurted to 22-7.  Manhattanville cut it to 9 a couple of times, but then GC "took off" again.  I figured the Quakers would dominate inside on a team that starts 5 guards and I was also pretty sure the ODAC was a tougher conference than the Skyline.  We'll see tomorrow night - we'll get a metro-Baltimore team no matter what and if it's JHU, then it's their home court.  The announcer said the Quakers had a nice crowd - I know a lot of people made the trip and GC has a lot of DC/Maryland students and alumni.  A good night for the Quakers!

63-60 Marlins pull it out at the end.  Averett lost the lead....sounds like the experience of the Marlins came through....big buckets by Adair and Balenga.

HSC-VWC #4 tomorrow night.  Heckuva night of basketball at the beach tonight.

Adair is a STUD and my Marlins have a horse shoe stuck up their butts.  Holy Cow!!!

Congrats to  our own "POWER" conference....THE ODAC!!!!!!..lol  To my Marlins, Hampden Sydney, and Guilford.   It's a pity that tomorrow one of the ODAC teams will have to lose, but for tonight let's everyone enjoy the wins.  Both VWC and HSC wins weren't very pretty but that's ok.  Guilford mauled Manhattenville.   Congrats also to Brandon Adair for getting  his 2000th point.  A record to be proud of Brandon. WTG!  Now I have to go get some rest and take my medicine.  I thought I was going to have a heart attack tonight listening to the games.    Congrats to Averett also on a great year and a fine team....I agree that the Marlins got lucky and had experience on their side (plus a guardian angel) to pull out the victory.

Congrats to all of the ODAC teams for winning their first NCAA games.  "POWER CONFERENCE" it certainly is!  Good luck Saturday!   ;D

We are still, however, missing Va Wes in our Poster Preview, which is a terrible, terrible shame. If you want to get your stuff into me on this board: http://www.d3sports.com/post/index.php?topic=5147.0 or via PM I will be more than happy to add it to the site and PDF document! Thanks!

What are Parkers now supposed to chant after every NP vs WC game, "Let's go enjoy tobacco products off-campus? - Gregory Sager
We all read it, but we don't take anything you say seriously - Luke Kasten

I guess I am the first poster to post after watching both games at the VA Beach. First and foremost, what a great mini-scetional as both games went down to the wire and were only won by 3 points each. I agree that it is a shame to see one ODAC team lose tomorrow, but hey see my rants on the travle rules in the Worst Frist Round Match-up boards for discussion on that thread.

First for the HSC-Hood game. The scouting report we received on Hood was pretty darn accurate. 55 (sorry I can't spell that name, not going to try) their 6'8" guard was a tough cookie to handle tonight. If HSC double-teamed he almost always found the cutter in the lane for an easy two points for Hood. HSC jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but it was soon to be long gone after Hood came up with a three pointer. HSC fought hard, but went down 22-12 before 55 got his second foul and sat for the last 8 minutes of the first half. At this point HSC went on a tear. They finished the half on a 18-10 run where they nearly took the lead from Hood. However, they went in to the half down two thanks to an amazing three point buzzer beater by Mike Edwards. The second half is when the Tigers finally came out firing on all cylinders (I hate how HSC waits for the second half to begin to really play some great Bball). Drew Prehmus was amazing as he lead the Tigers with 23 points. He kept hitting the big three. Down the stretch it got really tight, HSC was up 65-60 when I think it was Tyler Murray (or maybe Turner King) missed the front end of 1-1 and Hood came back with an impressive immediate three pointer. The tigers were lights out from the chairty stripe, which was the difference in the game. Tigers went 91% from the line (great stat for the Tigers). The game ended on a possible questionable call when the refs called the Hood player out of bounds in front of his own bench when he touched the ball with .8 seconds left in the game, and I still dont understand why Byron Lawton wasn't allowed to sub in after the Tigers got to in-bound the ball under their own basket. HSC struggled in the first half and will need to get that corrected before tomorrows game against VWC.

Now on to the VWC game. First, I have a few complaints to get off my chest about the disrespect shown by the VWC fans to the AU fans at the game. First, they got right in front of their student section and started pointing their signs at them, not something I liked, then a lady in a green semi-formal gown was sitting up in that section. Kudos to the VWC officials at the game table to get them away from the AU side and clear things up. Second, durring the final stretch of the game, the Students started chanting YOU SUCK, to a team that should have beat them on their home court which was very tasteless. Third, the STUDENTS should never have chanted BULL$%&^ at the bad call made by ref (we all know that d3 officiating isn't the greatest, get over it, have some class). I only hope that these STUDENT fans have a little more character tomorrow night when they play HSC (unfortunately, I won't be there to see if they actually are).

Now the game was very interesting and very one-sided in my opinion. AU was the HUNGRIER team tonight, and lost because VWC had the home crowd, which was silent for most of the game, until Adair decided to take VWC on his back down the final stretch with 5 minutes to go (I kept telling the VWC fans sitting near me, if the crowd stays out of it, you will lose). VWC was done 9 late in the second half and came on strong to take the game, first hitting a four point play, and then using some impressive defense to tie to the game.  A couple of late fouls and some clutch shooting by Adair helped give the Marlins the win. If 20 hadn't fallen at the end of the game, and I think it was 43 for AU taking that awful three point shot after picking up the loose ball, AU may have taken the game to OT.

Preview for tomorrow...
Both HSC and VWC need to come out firing on all cylinders early. They need to shoot the ball better then they did tonight. HSC ended with 37% shooting and VWC only shot 27% in the first-half (not sure of final stats). Both teams need to take better care of the ball, HSC had 16 tournovers, not sure how many for VWC but there were plenty. Both teams need to have huge fan support because that is what won it for both teams tonight. HSC needs better defense in the paint and not to rely too heavily on the three point shot like they did tonight. VWC needs to play much better ball offensively. They need to take the higher percentage shot and just get the ball to Adair and let him show why he was POY last year for D3. It should be a great match-up to see HSC-VWC #4. I regret that I cannot attend, but will be tuning in and keeping the updates going. Just thought I would share about the great MINI-SECTIONAL held at VWC!

Yes, congrats to all the ODAC teams!

Guilford got away from Manhattanville due to a few factors:
1.  Guilford was wide awake.  (Thanks, Bridgewater).
2.  A really excellent destruction of M'ille's full court press.  Excellent passing.  (Thanks, E&H, VWC, H-S, etc., for the fine training ground).
3.  Total very fine team play all over the place by everyone.  No kidding.  Guilford's bench was impressive for sure.  Heck, playing like that, Guilford would even have beaten Bridgewater!
4.  Matchup problems in the front court.

Tougher test tomorrow playing Johns Hopkins in their house.  Bigger guys, battle tested.  But we could do it.

FISHTANKFAN

Sorry to hear that the VWC fans were so rude because Coach Macedo runs a first class act with his team.  Also I agree..from what I heard on the internet, VWC's shot selection was poor and they had wayyyyy  too many turnovers, which is not usually the case.  Perhaps tomorrow they will make better choices and play  the way they are capable of.  We shall see.  Thanks for the info....

tigerphil

I really only hope that this was only payback from what I heard from some VWC fans was a hostile enviornment at AU when VWC lost their this year. This was my first time seeing VWC at WVC so I cannot say that this behavior is indicative of the team, but I have come to expect better from ODAC fans throughout the years and was grossly disappointed, especially since VWC is the DEFENDING NATIONAL CHAMP

Any leftover tickets after tonight's sales will be sold at 3 pm at the Box Office. They did not sell tickets until each game was over and only at the Batten Center. Good luck getting tickets, but I think they will have Standing Room Only tickets, they sold 100 of those tonight (which people got seats as Hood and HSC fans left early)

sludge - Sounds like a nice night to be a Quaker - sorry I couldn't be there.  I know we'll be outnumbered tomorrow night at JHU's home court, but what was the crowd like on Friday?  I could hear a nice roar when the Quakers scored or got a block.  How many folks made the trip from NC and how many DC/Baltimore area alumni and fans showed up?  I would imagine, among others, that George Neville had some family in the stands.  I hope we have a decent contingent on hand and continue the good play from tonight.  I'll be listening at 7!

Again, congrats to GC, VWC, & H-SC for making the ODAC shine. It IS a shame that at least one of them will be going home tonight.  I think it is also a shame that VWC and H-S have to meet so early in the tourn. They just played last Sat. for Pete's sake!! I don't envy the task that the NCAA has but it would be nice if teams could be put in "pods" where they had an opportunity to compete against teams they don't normally see. (eg: Guilford pod and H-S vs Hood) I made this suggestion back during football season and see no reason it couldn't become a reality. While I am certainly no communist, why can't there be some form of sharing of the wealth in the NCAA so that brackets could be better balanced. I'm sure the D1 power brokers would scream bloody murder but they need to get over it. The amount of money gererated by D1 football and basketball is enormous. I suspect that the amount it would take to cover playoff travel, etc. for all D2 or D3 sports (while substantial) is still "chump change" in relation to what is generated. I suspect that the D3 teams involved could chip in towards this end as well. I don't know, perhaps I am delusional from breathing the fresh air up here in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia but it seems to me that there is a solution here if someone put their mind to it.  If the NCAA has the power to (IMO) overstep their bounds on the mascot issue, then they certainly have the power to make this happen.
