Mr. Ypsi

True, but without conjecture these boards would be 85% shorter, and no fun at all!

Pat Coleman

Yes, true, there is also a drop-off after 2. I stopped climbing up the ladder after a while I guess.

I'm not going to argue with the statistics prof but the reason, again, that I referenced a small sample is that it was a small sample of the total number of games the conferences in question play. And the formula may well be available, but as a words guy, I wouldn't understand it anyway. :)

Oh, I'm all for conjecture, as long as it isn't mistaken for proof!

That's part of the reason I hate the BCS.  For me, 95% of the fun was tied up in the conjecture over who's number one.  The BCS spoils that by substituting a false "proof" for the active conjecture.  Luckily for us all, Boise State showed that there's still room for conjecture in the process.  :D

I say, if you want to believe that the ODAC is a "power conference," then believe it!  If you want to believe that that exalted status is reserved for the CCIW, WIAC, UAA, whoever, then believe it!  Use all the data you want that you think supports your belief (like the drunk and the lamppost), but don't expect to be able to prove it, and don't demand that anyone be convinced.

Narch,

Don't put too much faith in SUs victory over HSC because that was Sydney's first game without Kaase and they suffered due to rotation problems.  However, the USASAC deserves a lot of credit because they played so well against the ODAC this year!

Even if the sample were large enough (whatever that means), we know that statistics can be skewed to show pretty much anything we want....right? And does it really mean anything as far as predicting the future? We aren't flipping a coin here. I'm having nightmarish flashbacks to Dr. Dents Stats 101.  :o Thank God for college athletics, cold beer, hot college coeds, and Led Zeppelin.  8)
      Let conjecture ring!!  ;D ;D

brian - it was su's 2nd game without onie onunaku, who may have been as important to su as kaase was to hsc, as evidenced by su's lack of success without him and the numbers he was putting up at the time he was lost for the season (he averaged 15.1 ppg, 10 rpg, 2 apg, 2.7 spg and 1.6 bpg in the 7 games he played)

This game should be an entertaining one....... MC is a talented team as is VWC...... both teams will have their hands full and it will be a packed house...... this will be a fun one..... can't wait till Friday!!!!
should be if they allow BOTH fans into the gym

if i am not mistaken migh high school gym sat more than 2000

It was good enough for the women's final four in 04 and 05.  And why would a college with 1,200 students want a gym that seats more?  The official attendance in last Saturdays game was 1,480.  I don't thing Mississippi (I may be wrong) will have the crowd capacity of HSC who has a phenominal following and is only 3 hours away.  Oh, not to mention that MC average home attendance is less than 1,100.  So what will the problem be?

Outside of that argument....tough draw for MC and tough draw for VWC.  Shew...

I realize for the regular season attendance was less than 1100.  but for tournament time a bigger facility would be bettter.
By the way i read the post you put on the asc board.  thanks for the props.  I look forward to seeing the game on fri.

FYI:  1,645 was the highest attendence in the Batten Center for the NCAA's last year.  That was for the Lincoln vs. VWC game.

You've answered your own question there.

The College of Wooster has an enrollment of about 1800 students, and routinely draws that many or more to men's basketball games.  Our gym seats 3400 and is full or nearly so several times each season.

VWC is going down this weekend, and the Quakers will be going to Salem. For all of the hype about VWC's home court advantage, they sure had some scares at home this year. Averett should have beaten them (again), and would have if Rumley hadn't fouled out at the 5 minute mark (the exact moment VWC started coming back on them).  HSC did beat them in the Batten, and CNU was robbed of a win there. Miss. College is going to give the fish way more than they can handle.

I thought you guys might be interested in how the Chippewa nation in Minnesota and the Dakotas follows the basketball exploits of Guilford's Ben Strong, whose father Ed Strong lives in Red Lake, MN.  Notice the banner across the top of the front webpage and then scroll down to March 4 news to see the report on the JHU game and March 3 to read about the Manhattanville game.  They report every game and every news release.  Some who attended the JHU game reported a little inappropriate behavior by a small number of JHU students towards Ben, but I heard Ben's father and brother, who happens to be a student at NYC's Columbia University, and other family went over, introduced themselves and in a polite way asked them to be "more understanding."  :)  All's well that ends well.

Go Quakers!  Go Marlins!  Go ODAC!

HSC was the last team to beat the Marlins in the Batten Center.  That was on November 30, 2005, over 15 months ago.  Since then, the Marlins have won 27 straight games on their home court.

Good luck to Mississippi on Friday, but you're going to have your hands full on the Marlins' court.

I would just love to see a Quakers / Marlins game on Saturday evening!

I would love to see Lincoln play either MC or Va Wesleyan on Saturday night   ;D .

OK, my mistake. I thought that the HSC win over VWC was at the Batten. But I still think they will go down to Miss. College. The 2 lucky (or at least very, very fortunate) wins against the two Dixie Conf. teams I referenced makes me think they are really vulnerable. You have to admit, being the defending national champs paints a very large bullseye on their chests. I'm sticking to my prediction that Guilford will represent the conference in Salem.
