Recovering from the Guilford - Lincoln game.  Not much voice left.  Whew!

I'm very proud of Ben Strong.  People who say he should do great stuff because he's tall are silly.  Tall doesn't get you 19 - 22 from the line, or whatever it was.  It also doesn't get you that amazing steal he had in some overtime somewhere, or some of those moves.

I'm very proud of all the Guilford players.  Snipes hit yet another electrictrifying three at the end of regulation to put it into overtime.  Everybody played in a way that would make them proud, regardless of the outcome.  That's the way to play, and that's the way to live.  Leave nothing of undone effort to regret in your life, when you someday find it is ending.

Into the final four, nobody will have beaten ODAC, but ODAC!

Hasanova, best regards to you!

Tough road ahead, and a very tired team (and fans!) after the triple overtime.
Go Guilford!

Hey Where is that Airborne guy now????  I knew the Choctaws had never played a team with such tenacious defense as the Marlins.  Talking trash to the Marlins was not a good idea.  They thrive on it.  Congrats to all the Marlins for  a SWEET 16 win.  Brandon kept them in it the first half even being triple teamed and the whole teamed took over the second half to get the victory... WTG  Marlins!!!   and the Quakers showed Lincoln just how good they were...a fabulous, exciting, stupendous game by the Quakers to send Lincoln home.  Ben Strong was absolutely the General on the court tonight! Congratulations to a never say die team.  Just a wonderful wonderful night.   Going to be another WAR tomorrow night.  Hate to see them play each other, both deserve to be in the final four.   Going to be hard for the Marlins to win a third game from Guilford  and hard for Guilford to beat the defending Champs.  I have to go with my Marlins but I wish luck to both teams.  The ODAC wins regardless of the outcome.  Coach Macedo said tonight that people simply don't realize how tough a conference the ODAC is and he is right.   Stay tuned for another battle, another test of wills, and another exciting down to the wire finish  7pm tomorrow.

VWC fans, please consider the following, as intended from a friend.
Please consider that it isn't very classy to boo the away team players as each one is introduced onto the floor.  FWIW.   :)

sludge

Yeah, not too brilliant to talk trash to any team (right, Manhattanville?).  Especially VWC.  I doubt Guilford will make that mistake.

Uh, that would be ... hiding. Good wins for both ODAC teams. I wish I'd been there to see both games (especially the first one).

sludge - Thanks for checking in!  I bet you guys were speechless by the time the game ended.  I was and I just listening!  When we got down by 11 in the 2nd half all I could think about was "It's just like E&H.  It's just like E&H!"  What a game by Ben!  I know his Mom was there - does she have anything left for tomorrow?  Snipes?  My God, two legendary shots in his career!  I hope he has another if we need it!   Go Quakers!

Airborne,

After a week of the words from you, there really isn't anything I can say that can top the whippin' the Marlins put down tonight.  Nothing against Mississippi, just the bold board predictions and remarks.  I honestly had 1,000 clever remarks to throw into a post....but it is not even worth it!!! Marlins shot 72% from the floor in the 2nd HALF.

Guilford/Lincoln game.....HOLLY COW!!  Best college basketball game ever.  If Lincoln would have slowed the game down when they were up 7 with 2.5 min left in regulation instead of driving to the lane...we may not have two ODAC teams in the Elite 8.  However, Guilford players studded out.  Kimbrough was a great point guard and BATTLES.  Ben Strong....what else is there.  I wasn't convinced of the POY honors, I was biased, untill tonight...but hands down he should be NATIONAL POY!!!!  I could go on and on about that game....WOW.

Can't wait for tomorrow.....Go Marlins!!!

Thanks for your report, justafan02.  I've been watching Ben all season, but his game tonight must have been something!  I have some questions:

Was Lincoln's shot a 2 or a 3 late in the 1st half?  The refs appeared to change their minds a couple of times.
Kimbrough sounds as though he gets a little frustrated at times.  How effective is he and freshman PG Henson?
How close did LU come to scoring on their last possession in OT3?  Whew!
Was Snipes being guarded when he hit the 3 to send it to OT1?  Did he really bank it in?
Obviously, Strong was dominant and he had a lot of old-fashioned 3-point plays.  How tight were the Lions guarding him?
I didn't listen to all of the VWC/MC game, but the Marlins must have been "on."  Will GC be too tired to compete tomorrow night?

Thanks

What a night, It looked to me that he was inside the line and jump backwards as he was shooting and landed outside the line, I think it should has been a 2

Thanks, that's what the GC announcers thought happened.  Sounds like they actually took a point off the board when GC complained and then, when LU complained, put it back.  That could have been huge in such a big game!  In a way, I guess it was since the game went to three OTs!

Pat Coleman

Yeah but it was late in the first half. If it had come late in the game I might buy that but the teams had plenty of time to adjust to the score and play the game accordingly.

ODAC players who played 10+ minutes in 2006-07 and are graduating .......... for anyone interested in the midst of all of this excitement:

Virginia Wesleyan:  Brandon Adair, Thomas Sumpter, Rodney Young

Guilford
:  Jordan Snipes & Thomas Burge

Roanoke
:  Tee Jackson, Ben Lawler, Bart Davis

Emory & Henry
:  4 of 15 players who played 10+ minutes (Reasbeck, Townsend, Luton, Hairston)

Hampden-Sydney:  Mike Edwards & Matt Green (but Troy Kaase will return)

Randolph-Macon:  Phil Hawley, Adam Krovic, Stephen Sutherland, and Loren Sisson

Bridgewater:  no seniors on the team

Washington & Lee
:  Chris Halkitis and Alex White

Lynchburg:  Peter Vasiliou

EMU:  Jason Sager

Overall, the ODAC will be return most of its best players .... even with the loss of All-ODAC  players like Adair, Snipes, Edwards, Reasbeck, Hawley, and Sager.  It seems to me that Virginia Wesleyan and Randolph-Macon lose the most to graduation, with Guilford and Hampden-Sydney also taking a hit.  Guilford, Virginia Wesleyan, Hampden-Sydney and Roanoke will all remain very strong.

Now, back to the PRESENT ..... Good luck tonight to Strong, Adair, Fantin, Snipes, Sumpter, Belkoski, Balenga, Kimbrough, Strickland, Fields, Henson, Tucker, Neville, Dixon, Young, Sanborn, Hassell, and anyone else who is in the game!

Good morning, Pat.  I agree with you that the teams had time to adjust to the score given the juncture it happened in the game.  I was just saying an extra point, no matter when it's scored, is an extra point that affects the final outcome.

I am eating some serious (and unsavory) humble pie this morning. That was quite a dismantling. But the most disappointing thing of all is that the Choctaws you guys saw in VBch were not the same Choctaws that won 27 games this year. They were clearly dominated by the fish in this game, but it is unfortunate that they didn't play their best because they are a great team, and you would have seen a much better game if they were at their best. I wish we could have seen this matchup in Salem in front of a (somewhat) neutral crowd. I'm guessing that the VWC crowd got them back on their heels and that they were totally psyched out of the game. I'm sure that with the nail biting finish of the first game, the Batten crowd was in a frenzy by the time they tipped off the second game. Is that they way that you guys saw it? The hurtful part of the MC loss is that next season doesn't look as bright as this year. Six of their top eight players are seniors, the other two juniors. This was definitely their year. Maybe some more JuCo's will help next year.

Airborne

Did I mean to say "eating crow?" Either way, it tastes awful and I was seriously wrong about VWC. But I'm still hoping that the Quakers will pull off the upset and represent the ODAC in Salem. Note that I said "hoping" and not "predicting", so you Guilford guys that are less than impressed with my ability to predict outcomes can rest a little easier. I'm not picking them to win, I'm just hoping that they will do so.
