hasa,

If Ben 'merely' matches his junior year, he would blow right past 2200.  With his year-to-year improvement, and assuming the Quakers go deep in the tourney, no reason he can't 'shoot' for 2400!

If the national POY balloting took place before the Lincoln game (which I don't know one way or the other), he may not make it this year - but I'd say he's certainly the early favorite for next year.

I could be way off, but Brandon Adair was National POY last year.  I think it had to do with his regular season performance, but a lot to do with his 2006 NCAA tournament performance on top of the Marlin's great run.

In my opinion Strong was a good candidate before the NCAA's, but really put on a show nationally.  The balloting should be after the tourney and if it is....he has a great shot.  How would that look for the ODAC?  Two National POY in a row....and they were both Juniors.
Yeah, that would be something.  I was just looking at the numbers again for Strong - the guy upped his season scoring average from 23.9 to 25.4 (that's 1.5 ppg!) on the strength of the four monster games he had in the NCAA tournament!  That's unreal!  The success of the ODAC in this year's postseason can only help with recruiting.  Any future All-Stars out there ready to play in the ODAC?  I hope so!

Oldfish - this is the first ever final four for Washington University. They are 24-4 on the season, they seem to win games by narrow margins, and the majority of their scoring comes from 3 guys, Nading, Ruths and Wallis. Looks like they usually start forwards Nading(6'6" soph) and Nikitas(6'5" sr.), center Troy Ruths(6'6" jr.) and guards Sean Wallis(6'2" soph) and Aaron Thompson(6'3" frosh.). The coach has been therefor 26 years, since 1971 when they resurrected the program. The top 3 score around 18 to 20 points on average it looks like.

Mr. Ypsi

justafan02,

The balloting can't be after the entire tourney, since they announce the results during the pregame show of the championship game, but it may well be after the sectionals (which, alas for the Quakers, would be all that is relevant for Ben anyway).

BTW, I know little about Wash U, but Ruths may be one of Ben's leading competitors for top big man in the country.

I visited the 4 team websites this morning and compiled their stats into one file.

Its available here in Excel format

One other thing:  It was Nebraska Wesleyan and Illinois Wesleyan that kept the Bears out of the Final Four the last two times they had a chance prior to this tournament.

Mark - Oh those pesky Wesleyan teams ;D

He's not talking about our team, I'm sure, because we didn't name Adair player of the year.

We named Kyle Myrick player of the year. And we would not have changed our selection if we made the decision again after the title game. For some reason he was only third team All-American on the coaches' team. Seems like some politics at work.

Pat you are correct.  I wasn't talking about DIII hoops POY Myrick.  I also agree that he should have been a 1st teamer and possibly POY last year.  However, we can't take it away from Adair either....he def. earned the right to that award.

I think Myrick got screwed a bit because of his past, which isn't fair.

Do you think Strong will get DIII Hoops' award?

Pat Coleman

It would be unfair of me to speculate, since in the end the decision will go through me. I can only say he will be considered.

Maybe I am just missing it, but does UAA have a posting section???  Just trying to see what the Wash U fans have to say about the game.

Also....please refrain from making any comments about my VWC education.  I am fully computer ILLITERATE but only partially ignorant.  I hope that my question does not reflect poorly on VWC.
