I heard over the weekend that both Matt Kittrell and Eric Rolander are transfering. Hopefully this will not impact the Tigers too much and I wish both players the best of luck !!!!!

I wouldn't think it would have any significant effect.  With Troy Kaase's return to the court next year, it's very probable that both players would have gotten less playing time next year than they did this year (247 minutes for Kittrell and 28 minutes for Rolander).  The Tigers will be improved in the post, with Kaase, Murray, Medlin, and Laakso scoring inside and battling for rebounds.

JWW .... My understanding is that it is going well.  He seems satisfied with his progress.

Thanks for your reponse. I'm not that concerned about the coming year because the Tigers will have four very good inside people with 20 fouls to give ... I'm more concerned about the following year. Murray & Kasse have one year left and that leaves only Medlin & Laakso  after this year .... ten fouls in the post ain't going to cut it.

I'm sure they'll bring in some post players next year to replace those two guys !!!!

Any word on incoming freshmen or transfers ????

In addition to incoming post players, Troy Kaase could come back in 2008-2009 with Medlin and Laakso, as he was granted a medical red shirt this year and still has 2 years of athletic eligibility.  (He could easily complete academic requirements by May 2008, if he wants to.)

I've talked to some people who have some information about who might be added to the Tiger roster next year, but it was in late April and they were feeling good about things, hopeful, but still waiting on a few prospectives.  Developments occur in DIII ball later than the May 1 enrollment deadline .... and sometimes as late as August.  I understand that Turner King was a late-summer Hampden-Sydney "catch" .... and what a great one he was!

This isn't to pick on Troy (I happen to think he is a awesome player); but why would anyone redshirt in D-3? Wouldn't you want to graduate with your class? Without a scholarship and probably no future in hoops; why would anyone do this?

That would be very exciting if Mr. Kasse was able to play another two years; sounds like an expensive 5th year but if it works out that he does play two more years, so much the better for the Tigers. He is a fine young man and a great player.

I'm aware of how the recruiting goes in D-3, but I was just wondering if you had heard any rumblings. It would be wonderful if we could pick up another player the caliber of Turner King late in the summer. I agree with you, he is outstanding and I think could end up being one of the best offensive players to attend HSC.
Good luck and best wishes for an enjoyable summer. Football will be here before long !!!!

tons of athletes take five years to graduate. it makes it easier on them academically if you take five years and allows you to have more free time during the season. plus it delays the inevitability of having to go into the "real world" as they like to say. taking five years, rather you get a redshirt or not, also allows a player to do a study abroad trip during the school year - unlike other sports where all the games and practices are in one semester, basketball covers both semesters so it ruins anyone having the chance to do study abroad for a semester. of course there is always summer, but some kids have to work over the summer. also, if you are going to graduate in four years, you can use that medical redshirt during grad school.

Scottie--you just graduated.  Aren't you supposed to be lying  passed-out on a beach somewhere? ;D

I graduated from Maryville in December of 1985. While not a redshirt situation, I had the opportunity to come back in the spring of 1986 and use my final year of baseball eligibility. I chose not to. I regret that decision to this day.  :'( Once that opportunity was gone, it was gone forever. The "real world" could have survived a few more months without me.  :D
I'm sure my situation was a little different than Troy's but I would recommend to anyone that has a similar opportunity to seize it.  8)

At the risk of sounding patronizing, that is pretty much what I said in 1985.  ;D

Ouch!

Information I have indicates that Guilford will also have a credible frontline next year.  It looks something like Strong, Belkoski, Sanborn, Neville, and Wells.  Maybe Strong will finally be able to power forward.  If so, there's a matchup problem for ya.
