Thanks for the write-up, Hasanova.  Yep, unique.  Probably the only college in the ODAC that was a stop on the underground railroad.  I'm proud as heck of Guilford as it was and as it is.

sludge

And I'm proud of the entire, varied set of schools in the ODAC.

I agree wholeheartedly.

nice synopsis Nova. And one of the best features of your school is your fine basketball coach, a VWC educated young man!  ;D

I agree with JWW, Hasa.  Great synopsis and I learned more about Guilford, which is good.  The devotion you show for your school is immense.  The Quakes are lucky to have you as an alumnus. 8)

hasanova .... Thanks for the information on Guilford.  I've visited the campus a number of times, including a visit with my oldest son when he was looking at colleges 9 years ago.  I would have been very happy to see him choose Guilford, but he went to William and Mary instead.  I was quite impressed with Guilford's campus culture.

I have a to agree with nova.  I am a former guilford college basketball player from 2002-2006. I have to say the school is very liberal and hippie at the same time. I  have to say I did not enjoy it when I first got there because it was not your avg college atmosphere and the athletics were not the Big people on campus but as time went on and I seen how other schools around the area were I started to love my school for the atmosphere it had.   I never regretted going to Guilford and I am glad that I chose that school and I would reccommend it to anyone loooking for a great school. GO Quakers they will win the ODAC this year. Strong is a monster. I have seen him come up from being timid to being a very dominate player.

Thanks, jboogie33.  I've seen a lot of Quaker hoops since I moved back to Greensboro in 1999, so I think I know who you are.  Perhaps you could drop me a line through a personal message and we could chat.  When I was at Guilford, we were NAIA champs with three future NBA players, so they were true BMOC's.  :)  A lot of things have changed, but thankfully the essence that is Guilford remains the same.  I am not surprised you learned to love it for what it is and did not expect it to conform to what others think a school should be.  I agree - Strong is a monster and I think this is the year of the Quaker in the ODAC!  Go Quakers!  Peace from the Class of '74

Thank you, jww.  I have come to know Coach Palombo well and he's become a good friend.  He and I have been meaning to have lunch together, but schedules have not matched yet.  He - and I  - are busy guys.  Guilford is lucky to have him and I think he's done a great job!  That VWC education and experience have obviously served him well!

Thank you, my friend.  I'm glad you enjoyed the synopsis.  To be exact, I am lucky to have Guilford as my alma mater.

jboogie33 - karma to you, buddy!  ;D
Nova - I think you should work for Guilford. You are a wonderful ambassador!  :D

algernon, you're welcome.  If your son attended W&M, then he certainly made a great choice!  As a native Virginian, I have tremendous respect for many schools in the Old Dominion, including William & Mary and HSC.  If I had been a VA resident when I graduated from HS, who knows if my choice would have been different.   Guilford grows on you and if you haven't visited lately, I think you would see it is stronger and more beautiful than ever.  What are the chances you might be at the September 22 night game with HSC in Greensboro?  I'd like to see you there!

jboogie33 did deserve a karma!

JWW- I've thought about working for Guilford - maybe part-time when I retire.  I actually get "volunteered" for stuff all the time.  :)  I've been told I know more about the school than a lot of people who do work there!  lol

Strong will get my vote.  He's definitely a guy I can look up to!  :)
