A lot of teams lost a lot of players from last year. I didn't have VWC in my top six but there was one team that was good and didn't lose anyone. (Wash U, if you're wondering.)

sludge, thanks for your report on the Quakers!

GoQuakers

Preseason polls are a joke.  There is no way HS isn't a top 25 team if Guilford and VWC are both top 10.  Also, how in the world do you not vote HS #1 in the conference?  They won the tournament last year without their best player.  Preseason means nothing.

Do you people not realize that HSC lost their starting point guard and their starting shooting guard who was the mvp of the tournament???

Isn't a might counter intuitive to have some named GOQuakers tout HSC?  Maybe someone thinks they're laying in the weeds, or at least is looking for cover. ???

The Tigers haven't yet posted their roster but it includes 13 returning players plus 5 freshmen: Brent Dillard, a 5-11 PG from Dalzell, SC; Paul Matthews, a 6-4 guard from Greensburg, PA; Matt Partsch, a 6-3 guard from Roanoke (Hidden Valley); Daniel Griggs, a 6-6 forward from Providence Forge, VA (Walsingham Academy), and Colin O'Neill, a 6-6 forward from Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

Nice article on Paul Matthews:  http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07018/754454-361.stm

I am just making a point that polls mean very little and even though I fully support the quakers, I think it is shock that HS didn't get any national attention.

guilford lost to the south carolina gamecocks 99-63.

Here's the game story and boxscore.  It looks as though the last time Guilford led was 21-20 and then USC began to pull away.  FYI, Ben Strong had 27 points and 15 rebounds.  Guilford and S. Carolina are my two collegiate alma maters (BS and MBA), so technically I couldn't lose.  :)  I have to admit, however, my heart was with the Quakers.  Actually, I'm somewhat pleased with Guilford's performance on the road against an SEC DI program.  I've seen a lot worse scores in games of this sort.

Re. DIII All America Team, I would have thought that VWC's Ton Ton Balenga would be higher than 4th team.

I'm inclined to think this is extraordinary praise considering that he was 2nd team All-ODAC this past season.

Scottie, listening to the interview with Rhoades on the ODAC web site would seem to indicate we have a lot of freshmen this year, which bodes well for the long term, but, obviously, too early to tell for this season.  We will see. ???

I've got no problems with the pre-season rankings as they currently stand.  Obviously the Quakes will be the team to beat, with the Marlins in very close quarters.

Still on football season mode, fellas, but looking forward to another great ODAC basketball season for all the teams! 8)

You are 0 for 2, jacketlawyer - last winter's RMC basketball game at Guilford and now this fall's RMC/Guilford football game in Greensboro.  Can I pencil you in for Macon's Saturday, January 12, trip south of the border?  :)

Hasanova, like your persistence.  I just entered in the above date in the palm pilot to finally make that trip southward on 29. 8)
