You are 0 for 2, jacketlawyer - last winter's RMC basketball game at Guilford and now this fall's RMC/Guilford football game in Greensboro.  Can I pencil you in for Macon's Saturday, January 12, trip south of the border?  :)

Hasanova, like your persistence.  I just entered in the above date in the palm pilot to finally make that trip southward on 29. 8)
Righteous, brother.  lol  With further apologies to Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield, we will be in "Pick and Roll Heaven."  :)

Re. DIII All America Team, I would have thought that VWC's Ton Ton Balenga would be higher than 4th team.

I'm inclined to think this is extraordinary praise considering that he was 2nd team All-ODAC this past season.

That's what we thought, as well.

Jacketlawyer,   I think the Jackets may sneak up on some people this year. I am looking for the end result to be better then last years 14-12 mark

http://www2.hsc.edu/athletics/basketball/2007_08/roster.html hsc's roster is posted. Now we're just waiting on Macon to post their roster..

Scottie, listening to the interview with Rhoades on the ODAC web site would seem to indicate we have a lot of freshmen this year, which bodes well for the long term, but, obviously, too early to tell for this season.  We will see. ???

I've got no problems with the pre-season rankings as they currently stand.  Obviously the Quakes will be the team to beat, with the Marlins in very close quarters.

Still on football season mode, fellas, but looking forward to another great ODAC basketball season for all the teams! 8)

Jacket lawyer, How do you find the audio of coach Rhoades on the Odac website. I checked but could not find it. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm sure Macon brought in some good freshmen, but they are going to have to rely A LOT on freshmen and I can tell you from secondhand experience last year that having to play A LOT of freshman is really, really tough and frustrating. regardless of their talent level, freshmen are freshmen...

Any word on what happened with the other assistant coach HSC had last year, Chuck Thomas?  I know Chad Warner got a head coaching gig in Georgia, but I haven't heard anything about Thomas.  Also, interesting to see Green is helping out this year...should help with young guards.

Count me as also a little surprised at Guilford's rankings.  They did lose Jordan Snipes, a first-team all-ODAC player and legendary clutch shooter.  Also, they lost totally solid Thomas Burge.  Their chemistry last year was execllent, and it was in place from day one.  This year, they're still working on the chemistry, and definitely on smart passing.

That said, we did look pretty good against U of SC.  Guilford outrebounded the Gamecocks!  It seemed like fouls were called even less there than in the ODAC.  But yikes, we're working on that passing.  In sum, Guilford came out of that game not the least bit discouraged.

My pick for most improved sophomore of the ODAC this season in Clay Henson.  Check back with me in March on that.

Of course, VWC lost their 2000 point guy, that's a caution there, but they're also ranked highly nationally.

Hampden-Sydney lost two guards, which they'd really have to notice.  We'll see who steps up.

Then there is Roanoke, and the rest of the scrappy, competitive ODAC pack.  It won't be any piece of cake  I'm thinkin'.  Especially those darn road games.

Maconfan - Try this link to the ODAC media day interviews with the coaches.  Once you open this, just click on the "watch the interview" line under Coach Rhoades' photo.  I know you asked jacketlawyer for help, but I'm sure he won't mind the assist.  :)

Thanks for your report, sludge.  Did you and muckraker make the trip to Columbia?  I drove by the "new" arena 2 years ago, but I've never been to a game there.  Sounds as though the Quakers had a respectable outing against a DI opponent, so I'm no the least bit disappointed.  I checked everyone's boxscore and even Coach Odom commented on Ben's strong (sorry, his name just screams for this play on words) game.  Just out of curiosity, how many people attended Monday night?

How about Gardner-Webb smacking KY last night in Rupp no less? WOW!!  :o

yeah yeah yeah. its only the second game in the season and with a new coach so i'm not going to make that big of a deal about it.

The question about HSC guards keeps coming up and it is a valid one.  However, I am inclined to believe they will be ok.  Of course, I have seen both Byron Lawton and Fitz Robertson play while many non-HSC fans have not.  Just the E&H and VWC games in the ODAC tourney last year made me feel good about Lawton and Robertson.  The question mark for me is the depth at guard and scoring.  I think Robertson and Lawton will step up this year, but there also has to be another capable backup.  I also think that Lawton in particular will have to be willing to take his shot and drive the the hoop to keep defenses honest.  Last year he was more of a distributor; this year he will have to assist in creating shots for Drew Prehmus and himself.

Brian .... I agree with you, that the HSC guards will be fine.  In addition to Lawton and Robertson at point, HSC has some talented shooting guards .... Drew Prehmus, Turner King, and I think we'll see some good stuff from freshman Paul Matthews.
