Lets Go Guilford!!!!   I am back Nova for hopefully a multi-chamionship year.  Good to see the talk already started.  Nova, you coming to the game on Saturday?  I will be there in full force.  Looks like Guilford is gonna start Strong and Sanborn in the post.  Thats 6'11 and 6'10 respectively.  Rather large for DI, let alone DIII.  Good look to all ODAC teams playing non conference.  Represent ODAC boys.

I thought I'd stop by briefly to extend my best wishes to Bob Johnson as he steps aside to battle kidney cancer.  Good luck to Paul Russo as he takes over the Wasps program.

Hey, Coopersharpe.  As I mentioned earlier, I'm going to be in Boone for the ASU/U-T Chattanooga football game, but I hope to not miss another game in Greensboro.  I've already told sludge to root twice as hard Saturday night to cover for me!  I'm looking for a "big" year out of Guilford with Strong and Sanborn together in the frontcourt.  Let me know if you're going to the Greensboro game on the 28th - I'm planning to be there.  I agree - let's go Quakers!

Well said.  My thoughts exactly.

Jackets  66   John Carroll 68....   Let us see what tomorrow brings.

Virginia Wesleyan escaped with a 4 point win over Newport News Apprentice tonight.  VWC was down nearly the entire second half and trailed by 12 with 3 minutes left.  The timely shooting that has pulled them through so many games the last few years got them through another one.. barely.

The Marlins are, not surprisingly, looking substantially different without Brandon Adair down low.  Macedo appears to be searching for his post player/combination of choice.  Fantin and Hassell got the start tonight (along with Dixon, Fields, and Tucker) but didn't appear to be the answer.  That lineup, however, has the potential to be scary, especially against teams with smaller post players; every player on the floor can run and shoot the 3.  Freshman Jabez Wallace(6'6) and Julius Carlton (6'5) both saw substantial time down low. Wallace had his moments and appears to have some potential. I don't know how to feel about Carlton; he is built small and reminds me of Hassell 2 years ago, skinny and undisciplined.  Outside of the paint, the Marlins were themselves.  Defense picked up the last 5 minutes and should be as stingy as ever.  Balenga didn't have a great game but is obviously the emotional leader in Adair's absence.  He got to the line several times to keep VW within 10 or 12; he also missed 2 big free throws that could've iced the game.  He hasn't changed.  Fields will look like the best player on the floor at times this year; he's gotten better and looks more comfortable.  Overall, the Marlins are definitely still finding themselves but retain the coaching, defense, and clutch play to compete with anyone.

Guilford fans who are reading this to see if VW has any big men to slow down your 2, rest easy for now.  Strong would've gone 50+ in this one.

sounded like a whale of a game (ok wrong choice of fish) at the Fish Tank.

Bob Johnson sounds tough as nails and has a great attitude to boot.  My prayers are with him.

It sounds like R-MC had a great game with a new team, to push good John Carroll team so hard.  Way to go, and I'll bet the team is only encouraged by that game.

VWC in a come from behind victory.  It sounds like business as usual to me.  You need to use a silver stake to finish the game on those guys.

E&H winning, great way to start.

So, ODAC 2, Infidels 1, but I just about consider the R-MC outcome a moral victory.

Balenga got the start, not Fields, but reportedly Macedo will change up the lineup for tonights game against an NC Wesleyan squad that features VWC grad David Doino as an assistant coach. NC Wesleyan looked impressive against Rutgers-Newark so tonights game between the Marlins and the Bishops should be a great one.

VWC wins.... I think the score against NCW was something like 83-60 or 80-63.....something like that

sludge

Guilford got by Villa Julie 87 - 52.  It was a three-point game at halftime, but the Quakers came out with a lot of energy in the second half.  Guilford had good ball movement with 27 assists, and looked deep too.  Both teams move the ball quickly.

I could rave about particular performances, but I'll leave it there.   Great play, guys.

The chemistry is coming along all right.

VWC looked great against NC Wesleyan tonight, opening the game with two consecutive breakaway slams by Norman Hassell and Tyler Fantin, putting the Bishops away early. TonTon Balenga, Terrell Dixon, Julis Carlton, Norman Hassell, Stephen Fields, and Tyler Fantin all played well tonight, as well as a few other Marlins. Everyone talks about how VWC is going to struggle without Brandon Adair, but let me tell you... the Marlins are going to be just as good, maybe even better, with more depth on this team than they've had over the past two years. If this team stays focused, they are gonna be scary.
