Yep.  Typically, the Quakers are not a good three-point shooting team either.  The Hornets hit 12 and the Quakers zero.

Nova - I think you guys ended up 0-10 from three-point range.  SU only had 8 turnovers for the whole game - something I've never seen.  That certainly is not typical SU play.

I worried also about the long break between games.  Guilford had not played since the 8th and SU played Saturday.  Also, it' worth noting SU's played 11 games to 6 for GC.  With that being said, however, Guilford can be their own worst enemy.  Same story as the Greensboro game.  Anyway, they have to get better!

Plus a triple-overtime exhibition win over UM-ES (D-I MEAC) and a scrimmage against BC makes 13 games - I can't remember the last time SU played this many games before Christmas. I do think the games against UM-ES, Houston Baptist, and Shippensburg have really helped the Hornets adjust to playing against larger line-ups.  But I don't think they've played against a better duo underneath than Strong and #15.

Yes, the Quakers were 0 for 10 on threes and SU was 12 for 27.  Well, I knew Guilford would have to adjust with Snipes and Burge graduated, but you cannot be a great team in this era without some outside shooting.  SU has certainly improved since I saw them last season.  Guilford's #15 is Tyler Sanborn, a 6'10" sophomore.  He's one of GC's most improved players.  I hope he can be a force after Strong graduates this season.

Macon wins their tournament with wins over Arcadia and Muhlenberg.  Last night, the Jackets looked good, especially in the second half.  This team is getting better every time out, with lots of playing time for some of the freshmen.  Often there are three, sometimes four, freshmen on the floor, good experience for later in the season.  This team will be very tough by the end of the year.  Quite impressed how quickly some of the young guys are learning to play defense, key to playing for Rhoades.

Back from Winchester; SU - Guilford was a tough game.  On the bright side, Guilford did come back to briefly take a late lead, when it hadn't been clear how much gas was in the tank.

I know Guilford guys can shoot outside, I've seen 'em do it, I've seen them really hot.  But it seems to be streaky so far.  I think this new team is still working to find its offensive and defensive chemistry.  It could happen; I'll bet it does happen.  ;)

Roanoke lost last night by only 7 points to #8 Hope College.

Tonight, the Maroons take on Defiance, which upset #13 UW-Oshkosh last night.

It's a very tough conference this year.  I've got 6 teams in the top tier .... 2 teams only slightly lower (Bridgewater and W&L) .... and 2 teams left at the bottom (EMU and LC).

Maybe when Algernon did his "mental math," he inadvertently thought "72-65."

Beautiful.  Love hearing this.  The true test will be the fulltime ODAC schedule in January, but I hope the guys continue to mature and improve.  I agree with Algernon that the ODAC will be tight this year. ;D

I hope all the posters have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy, and Profitable New Year. 8)

It was a close game throughout really, Hope only pulled away the last 10 minutes or so.  The 13 points I think was the high-water mark for the lead.

It seemed to be a game where both teams had trouble shaking off the rust after long breaks.  Roanoke 16 days, Hope 10, which included the NCAA mandatory no practice for 7 days.

Look forward to seeing you in January, Jacketlawyer.  Hope you have a great holiday season and 2008 as well.  Peace

There is. You have X number of weeks to a season and if you start playing games on Nov. 15 then you must take a week off during the season or else you run out of season before the conference tournament.

Otherwise, you can start on Nov. 22 and start practice one week later than everyone else. Or you could play games on Nov. 15 and start practice late and be a week behind everyone else.

There isn't such a thing...

Starting this year, I believe there is.  Unless I'm completely misinformed on this, but I know Hope did not practice last week.

Oh I thought he meant it as in regards to the exams, like the NCAA mandated teams take off during exam week...

Must be new to this year, I don't recall there being anything like that the last 4 years.

Strong is impressive when he gets going -- he struggled getting back and forth down the floor last night...

Hey JWW, I didn't see that part.  What I did see was Strong fighting through considerable human drapery.  22 points 13 rebounds, good shooting percentages, coupla blocks.  High expectations!

Tyler Sanborn had a great game, career high points, reliable rebounder, improving ball handler, good student of the game.  He's really coming on.

Maybe we'll catch up with you sometime this season for a visit!

Kimbrough played like 37 minutes for Guilford against SU, with an injury.  What a gutsy guy!
