Hasa....speaking as one Tiger fan, I am very thankful for the Mayberry Gazette (aka The Farmville Herald) covering Tiger athletics. Not only that, you get the bonus coverage of reports from every crick and holler around Buckingham, Cumberland, and Prince Edward County. I know who is having dinner with whom, who is in town visiting with family, etc. It's great!!  :D
Sounds like the Stuart (VA) Enterprise (covering Patrick Co.) and the Mount Airy (NC) News (covering Surry Co.).  I'm not going to go so far as to say it's great, but let's just say I do understand the type of paper you describe.  The Reidsville (NC) Review is another - they say they have a Section B, but most of the time it's just a sales ad for the Big Apple Farm Supply.  :)  As my siblings and I describe them, they usually say who died, who's sick and who you should pray for because they're about to die ... not, as we (and Seinfeld) also say, that there's anything wrong with that.  lol

Random thoughts -

Now that we're cranking up the ODAC only schedule; how would my fellow posters rank the ODAC?

I miss the weekly pick'em.

Sunday I saw Lehigh  beat Princeton (don't ask why). Princeton wouldn't qualify for the ODAC tournament and Lehigh would be a middle of the pack team. D-1 ain't all it's cracked up to be.

R T-D on one of the ODAC's favorite refs: http://www.inrich.com/cva/ric/news.apx.-content-articles-RTD-2008-01-08-0099.html

Thanks for sharing the article, tigerfan.  I'll share it with my wife and daughter, who will get a kick out of it.

It's not mentioned, but Jerry Stone has also officiated for at least 1 high school volleyball game.  Boy, were we surprised to see him in the officiating stand!

My favorite line from the article is when Jerry is asked, "Where's the most fun crowd?"  His response:  "Mills Godwin vs. Douglas Freeman. If ever there was an image of high school basketball and young people having fun in a competitive atmosphere, that has to be it. . . . And I have to say Randolph-Macon vs. Hampden Sydney [for colleges]."

Four four years, Jerry would admonish me from the sidelines when I would take issue with just about every call he made! GQ Jerry Stone. 2000 games. Say it ain't so. :o

Are the first two words of your post a reference to the years watching #44 play or did the memory of Jerry upset you enough to cause a grammatical turnover?

The Quakers and the Marlins have perfect weeks to move up to #11 and #17, respectively, in today's poll.  The Maroons also garnered 16 points, but didn't crack the Top 25.  Obviously, this week's games should reveal a lot about the ODAC (and national) pecking order!  Go Quakers!

Good catch - that is funny considering Peter's number at VWC!  :)

Algernon - Back in the day....some of the best games ever were between the boys in garnet and gray -- the coat and tie crowd -- and the thugs from the beach in their NY Giants warm up jerseys and gold chains. Ah, those were the days!

Bridgewater faces another big test at VWC tomorrow night.  The Eagles have quality wins over DeSales and Shenandoah, and are on a 6 game winning streak.  BC has to forget the past few years (1-7 against VWC) losing by an average of over 16 points.  The Eagles are a very experienced team, and have shown that by winning close games this year.

Great news for fans unable to attend tomorrow night's Hampden-Sydney at Guilford game - it will be video- and audio-cast over the net.  I'll be there, but please remember the students have not returned from winter break.  Go Quakers!
