We're set for some serious ballin'.
Down south where der's heyin' ... and y'allin'!
Hey y'all, looky yonder,
Dem Tigers, I wonder?
Yeah - Strong dunks send 'em all caterwaulin'!

I'm really looking forward to tomorrow night's game - also looking forward to meeting any Tiger fans who make the trip!  This should be a tight, competitive game.  I seriously want the Quakers to win, of course, but this game has me worried.  Go Quakers!

Thanks for the poetry, and I'm right there with you, Has.  If DeWayne thinks we're overlooking this stuff, he's crazy!

Oh no never that.... VWC has two tough games that they must focus on (Bridgewater, E&H), before they face Guilford, and Guilford has HSC and Macon, which will be two tough games, but you can't help but be a little bit excited that this matchup is right around the corner.

Algernon - Back in the day....some of the best games ever were between the boys in garnet and gray -- the coat and tie crowd -- and the thugs from the beach in their NY Giants warm up jerseys and gold chains. Ah, those were the days!

Great games, no doubt!  The Tigers were happy to finally win that one last February, before losing to the Marlins again in March.  Oh, well .... a 1-3 record against last year's Marlins is not one to feel TOO bad about.

Those of us in Tigerland are more excited that the Quaker - Tiger matchup is right around the corner.  I wouldn't be surprised if both the Quakers and the Marlins have another loss or two on their record by the time they get together on Sunday.

I'm not saying that the Quakers will lose to the Tigers and/or the Yellow Jackets, or the Marlins will lose to the Eagles or Wasps ... but, personally, I think that the Tigers and Yellow Jackets and Maroons have as good a shot of winning a game with the Quakers or Marlins as the other way around.  The games between these five teams are pretty much "Even Stephen" in my mind.  The only reason the Quakers and Marlins are in the Top 25, while the Yellow Jackets, Tigers, and Maroons aren't, is because of 2006-07.

This is a brand new year and it is going to be tight at the top.  Actually, I think that the Eagles and Generals will win more games this year than some might expect.  A record of 15-3 may be good enough to get the #1 seed for the tournament.

There will be some good games tonight!

.... that my Gennies are going to surprise a lot of people!

OK ... so here's my goofball mathematical calculation of "Strength of Schedule" ... a formula that I'm sure has little merit, but I'll throw it out for the rest of you anyway.

Team Win PCT     X    Opponents' Win PCT

1)  Roanoke (.778)  X Opponents (.568) =  .442

2)  Hampden-Sydney (.875)  X Opponents (.495) =  .433

3)  Bridgewater (.857)  X Opponents (.487) =  .417

4)  Randolph-Macon (.778)  X Opponents (.516) =  .401

5)  Guilford (.750)  X Opponents (.516) =  .387

6)  Virginia Wesleyan (.778)  X Opponents (.485) =  .377

7)  Washington & Lee (.556)  X Opponents (.562) =  .312

8 )  Emory & Henry (.571)  X Opponents (.452) =  .259

9)  Eastern Mennonite (.429)  X Opponents (.544) =  .233

10)  Lynchburg (.286)  X Opponents (.449) =  .128

Let's face it, every game is big!  HSC, RMC and then VWC in five days - are you kidding me?  lol  Any team that looks ahead (other than an assistant coach scouting) is being foolish.  I'm 100% sure the Quakers are focused on the Tigers today.  They'll turn their full attention to the Jackets and Marlins about 9:30 tonight!
As Ray Romano said in Everybody Loves Raymond, I'll be AIS (a$$ in seat) ASAP tonight!  :)

oooh...a formula...i like :)...you just KNEW i'd have to weigh in on this one

my first thought...simple formula's are REALLY nice

second thought...i'm not sure this formula gives us any insight that the naked eye doesn't

take methodist, for instance - the monarchs are 7-5 (.583) and their opponents are 70-59 (.543) which would give them an algernon index of .317 - the problem is that just 3 of mu's wins are against teams above .500 (and they are just 4 games over .500 at 20-16), the other 4 wins are against teams who have combined for a 11-34 record (.244) and all 5 of their losses are against teams well above .500 (a combined 39-9/.813) - the algernon index says the monarchs are average to below average, but so does common sense...they've won 7 games against mediocre teams and lost 5 to really good teams - i want a formula that tells me something i didn't already know about the monarchs...like, are they closer to average or below average :) - this might just be a scheduling thing - few of the monarch's opponents to this point fall in the gray area...they've been either really good or really bad, for the most part

i will be interested to see this formula in use throughout the season - it would be great to see the algernon index for each game and see if it holds up and predicts outcome with any reliability

narch .... I don't think the algernon index is going to be computed after each game (unless someone else thinks it has more value than I do).  :)

I'm wondering whether there's a DIII Strength of Schedule index out there ....    Pat?

I knew this would get narched ... hey, I think we've got a new verb!  I like a good formula and I do like the moniker algernon index as well ... reminds me of the word algorithm.  :)

jdubyadubya

Nova - I hope that Narch and Algernon can work out the system between them because I like the moniker "The Algernon Narch Index."  :P

Indices

There once was a spreadsheet - index-rated
A tote boarded dead heat - innumerated?
It's ironic, I think
Algernonic, I wink
So sexy - and not even x-rated!
