Look out next saturday, Scottie......We're gunning for those Marlins......We're not the same team you've beaten the last 6 times-and we've got Mike Rhoades, who, in my opinion, can coach circles around Macedo-you've just had much better talent the last few years....in an even
environment with the same talent,I'll take Mike Rhoades any  day.....

RMC1982,

Scottie is a Lynchburg follower, not a VWC follower.  Understandable mistake if you don't follow the board regualrly though.

rmc1982

Sorry Brian...although i follow pretty regularly during roundball season,I have just started posting-I will not make this mistake again-Thanx for the heads up=my bad.....Billy

Macon played impressively, but still was down by 3 points at the half.  They tied the game early in the second half and led by 4-8 points for the rest of the way until the last 3-4 minutes of the game, when they upped it to a 13-point victory.  The Tigers couldn't hit their shots today, hitting only 39% overall and 25% from behind the line, in part because of tough Yellow Jacket defense.

Carlson and Dixon played a great game -- and I was singing their praises until the end of the game, when I found myself agreeing with some other HSC fans' comments about their poor sportsmanship on the court, especially during the last minute of play after the game had already been decided.  They were mid-court and making gestures and laughing at the HSC student fans, displaying a level of rudeness that I think is pretty rare in the ODAC.  I'm sorry to comment on it, but that kind of stuff didn't happen when Jared Mills, Kurt Bergmann, or Justin Wansley led the RMC team.  I hope it was only a 1-time occurrence.

The Tigers are certainly missing Tyler Murray, although Carlis Trops and Jyri Laakso have been playing increasingly well.  They should have an easier time on Wednesday against Lynchburg and then will have a tough set of games next weekend .... Roanoke / Washington & Lee.  With a 2-4 ODAC record now, they can still hope to finish the 1st half of the season with a 5-4 record.

I'm sure that the HSC students were perfect gentlemen, as always.  I'm also sure Carlson and Dixon appreciate the back handed compliment.

RMC1982,

Not a problem, I just noticed I misspelled regularly even though I thought I check and corrected it before I hit post.  Anyway, it is always nice to have a few more people on here discussing hoops and adding to the conversation since a few of the regulars over the past few years have not been spotted lately.

Hey RMC when it comes to VWC talk to me or JWW lol...

But the VWC/LC game was physical throughout with lots of fouls being called. Mason Woolridge got off for 28 and 8, Echols had 14. Those were the only LC players in double figures.

But VWC was in control the whole game basically and carried a 45-31 lead into the half. Tyler Fantin kept up his solid play and had 21, TonTon rebounded from his past couple games and put up 21 and Norman Hassell had another good game with 16 pts and 6 rebs. Stephen Fields had 15 and 6.

But I think that the RMC VWC game will be just like the previous games between these two teams, battles. Last year, with the Marlins riding the wave during the reg. season and with RMC struggling, the Yellow Jackets gave VWC all it could handle when they met, so with RMC and improved team, this game should be a great one.

But first VWC has to take care of business vs. EMU @ 7 on Wednesday in the Beach.

As do we w/Bilgewater wednesday night.......but we're comin' at ya saturday........and if i was in a dark alley late on a saturday night I'd still take my man Mike Rhoades over your guy.......anytime.......you've had better talent the last few years-that's a given.......but the pendulum has swung more evenly now.......you may beat us .......but Mike will have our boys fighting a better fight than we have in the recent past.........and I wouldn't be counting my chickens too fast if i were you.........

DeWayneCarter

I don't know man.... I don't think I'd run up on Macedo in a dark alley....

rmc1982,  we have to take care of things wednesday  before we even think about next saturday. After the game on wednesday is when we think about saturday. But it will be nice to see the jackets take over the batten center.

From the 15:19 mark of the first half the Yellow Jackets outscored H-SC 72 to 46. WOW!

From the 15:19 mark of the first half the Yellow Jackets outscored H-SC 72 to 46. WOW!

The Tigers started the game with a run, 13-0.  Then the Yellow Jackets went on a 22-8 run, taking a 22-21 lead with 8:11 left in the first half.

Then the two teams played evenly for about half the game -- 17 minutes (before and after the half) -- the Jackets scoring 25 points while the Tigers scored 24 points, leaving the Yellow Jackets still barely ahead, 47 to 45, with 11:01 left in the game.

At that point, the Yellow Jackets went on an important 14-5 run over 6 minutes of play, to go ahead by a solid 11 points with 5:15 left in the game, 61-50.  Neither team did much better than the other over the final 5 minutes, resulting in a final point margin of 13 points, 72-59.

With ODAC games over for this weekend, here's some guessing that there will be a bunch of ODAC teams at the bottom end of the Top 25:

Guilford will drop from #17 to #23
Virginia Wesleyan will rise from #22 to #21
Randolph Macon will rise from #25 to #22
Roanoke will jump into the Top 25 at #24

What a conference battle so far.  RMC has distinguished itself by beating Guilford and HSC on the road.  For those who thought RMC might be down or in the middle of the pack this year, please remember that RMC returned talented veterans Dixon, Varela, Carlson and Short and even, more importantly, Mike Rhoads.  Is RMC peaking too early?  Its a long season and every team will have a blip sooner or later.

Guilford is probably the best of the rest because of Strong.

VWC, RC, Bridgewater, W&L and HSC will probably beat each other up the rest of the year and then it will come down to tourney time.  VWC's depth and athleticism make them very tough out of that group.  Roanoke finished 2nd in last year's ODAC tourney so noone should be surprised by them.  Pre-season 7th W&L has to be a bit of surprise and is defending its home turf well, beating RMC and Bridgewater.  Some have questioned HSC's depth, but HSC's vets are getting most of the minutes and are pretty good, and HSC's younger players can only get better with more minutes/opportunities.

Unfortunately, I think the road will get even bumpier for E&H, EMU and LC.  But, E&H will have one of those games where they make 18-20 threes and knock someone off.
