Looks like the heavy minutes Mason has been logging since Christmas are starting to take a tole on him, especially last week when he played 37 and 33 in the two games and is starting to get 30+ minutes on a regular basis with 35 minutes today. He hasn't looked this gassed in other games I've seen him play, so that's my best guess. Averaging over 30 minutes a game is tough for any player, especially for a post player, and another LC big man and the rest of the team is simply going to have to step it up and allow Mason to get more than just stints of 30-60 seconds of rest or less. In most cases you just can't afford to put yourself in the situation where you best player absolutely has to be on the court for such long stretches with little to no rest, even Ben Strong gets some stints of rest that are longer than just 30-60 seconds...

Come on Scottie he's 19 or 20 years old. He's tied for 13th(with Safo) in minutes per game. There are plenty of very productive players averaging more time. IT looks like LC has someone to build around. I look forward to seeing him play. Did he get any time at Marshall?  The Herd should be missing him.

VWC pulled out a sloppy win over EMU 97-92 last night. Not to discredit the Royals, because they played hard last night and shot the ball extremely well, but VWC didn't put forth their best effort tonight. Tyler Fantin once again led the way for VWC last night with 24 pts. and 10 rebs. Stephen Fields has 15 and 8, Julius Carlton had 11 and 9, Balenga and Hassell had 15 and 13, respectively, and freshman Quantrell Simmons had 6 points and 8 rebounds in 14 minutes. As for EMU, Jared Lyons had 12  points on 4-5 shooting from behind the arc, Parkes had 16 and 8, George Johnson and freshman DJ Hinson had 17 and 13 respectively, and Rashawn Hannah had 14 and 6.

Now for Saturday, RMC and VWC have been off to a good start this season and this will be a great game. VWC has to play 20x better than they did against EMU. If they put forth the same defensive effort they'll get blown out, but if they play the D their capable of playing, they should get the W.

Thanks for the insight, DC.  I'm sure the Fish will be ready Saturday--it looks to be a good one in the making.  Wish I could be there!

Well, its been a long time...but with W&L looking as good as they have recently, I couldn't stay away any longer!!!

Beyond Ben Strong, is there a better player in the ODAC right now than Greg Bienemann???  In my final days at W&L, it was easy to see how the Bienemann/Femi Kusimo tandem could grow into something special.  And now with some effective guard play, it seems like the Gennies are finally ready to make a legit challenge in the ODAC.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to catch any games yet, but I've got some dates circled on my calendar.  Let's go Gennies!!!

Actually more like 23 years old. And since Christmas he has logged 28, 30, 30, 37, 33, and 35 minutes, so his playing time of late has been significantly more than his average. He's also 7th in the ODAC in minutes in ODAC games, with the only post player averaging more is Ben Strong (and only 9 posts filling the top 30 in minutes played), so yes that is a significant number of minutes for a post to be playing. It begins to take a tole on a person when he is only able to get to rest for 30-60 second stints, even Ben Strong gets longer stints than that and he averages more minutes a game...

And no he didn't get PT there as a freshman, he had I think two upperclassmen playing the same position as him, so there wasn't much room for him to play, but he did appear in 20 some games and averaged a few minutes a game when he did play.

How many more years is it going to take the administration over at LC to realize that John Swickrath is one of the worst head coaches in Division III? Is it blind to Swickrath's extremely huge ego and and his gigantic lack of maturity? Is it blind to the fact that several players quit and/or transfer every year specifically because they hate Coach Swickrath? How many more blowouts is it going to take to have this man fired? How many more underachieving seasons is it going to take? How many more 9th and 10th place finishes in the conference is it going to take?

They have been blown out six times this year in just 13 games, 13 times last year, and 11 times in the 05-06 season. The only two decent at best years he had was when he was playing with talent that was recruited by other coaches. He has recruited some talented players, the kind of players he wants, and he can't win with them. What the hell does that tell you? To me it says 1) he can't recruit, 2) he can't win with the pieces he wants, and 3) he can't coach.

He can't recruit because 1) he brings in talented players, but 2) they can't play defense and 3) they have a very low basketball IQ. He can't win with the players he brings in because look at last year and this year. All the players that have played, with the exception of Vasiliou, were recruited by Swickrath or he allowed them to walk on to the team. They won a whopping 6 games last year and lost 13 straight to end the season and this year they have won a stupendous 3 games. He can't coach, well no explanation is needed here, his record in holding leads in the second half and winning close games is self-explanatory.

So I ask again: How many more horribly underachieving years is it going to take to get this man out of here?

Dear lynchburgcollege: Gee, how do you really feel about it? :o

Dave 'd-mac' McHugh

Lynchburgcollege - your very first post needed to be that?! Feels like a drive-by attack to me. I wouldn't be surprised if we never hear from you again. Sounds more like you are just trying to stir the pot - and most posters aren't going to bite.

"d-mac" Does the name Bryan Mclean mean anything to you?

What I find interesting is that that post didn't come from anywhere within 500 miles of Lynchburg's campus. So it's someone who's so disgruntled he's not even in the same time zone anymore.

Geez-I'm glad I like OUR coach!!!To reply to an earlier post by my fellow RMC fan Jacketlawyer-  yes,The Fish will definitely be ready and will play much better than they did last night[and i hope we do,too!] and yes it is at their place, but i think we're gonna play alot better down there than we have in the last few years-we may still go down,[which isn't the end of the world ,either]but i think we'll make a better showing of ourselves than alot of people think.Mike has got our kids believing in themselves right now-he also only has one senior-ONE-so we'll be good for a few years,as long as he can fill the small holes-which i don't think will be a problem....all in all,it's gonna be a GREAT game saturday. For alot of us who live in the greater Hampton Roads area it's alot closer drive than it is to Ashland so we'll have a decent crowd there.Jacketlawyer-we're gonna miss ya.......Listen to Marty and Co on the web....
