The game on Saturday should indeed be good between VWC and RMC.  I wish I could attend (since it is in my backyard now), but I will be skiing for the weekend.  In particular, RMC appears to be playing some solid basketball at this point.  And apparently the kids (and I mean all of them) have bought into Coach Rhoade's and his program, which is great to see at this point of the season.  However, it is hard to maintain such a a high level of play throughout the season.  I hope the team stays focused on the next ball game and does not get wrapped up in all of the hub-bub going on around the success this year.

Couple of keys to the game for the Jackets:

1.  I think Short will be a key to success for Macon.  A solid game out of him (few turnovers, getting others involved in the offense, and getting his points when the oppotunity arises) will be key.

2.  Macon's perimeter players will need to shoot well from the 3 point line...Thus, field goal percentage will be key on the part of both teams.  Can VWC limit RMC's outside game?  Or will Macon's perimeter game come through?

3.  I see Dixon as a key to the game for RMC.  Can he stay out of foul trouble and be effective throughout the game.  He is averaging 27 minutes a game and will need to play each of those and possibly more for RMC to be successful.

4.  Can Carlson maintain his composure in a big game?  He gets really pumped for these games and rightfully so, but he must play within himself as well as not get "sucked" into the trash talking game, but rather let his play speak for itself.  He has the ability to dominate a game but he must be able to maintain his "cool" throughout the game regardless of what VWC throws at him.

That is my analysis for that game...Now onto the Lynchburg College issue.  I will make a brief comment on the post that spoke about Lynchburg College's Men's Basketball Program.  First, I don't know who he/she is that posted.  Second, the post was a bit of a tirade, but I have had a few of those over the years as well on this board.  So I can't blame the person for that.  Third, I do not follow the LC program all that close, but as a native of Lynchburg have always wondered why LC hasn't had more success over the years.  This program was struggling prior to Swickrath's appearance on the scene...I mean they had a coach that was fired because of some illegal activities.  Thus, Swickrath appears to be an improvement in that area since he hasn't been caught participating in illegal activities.  However, the gentleman (or gentlewoman) does make a great case (based on the utilization of win/loss records and the turnover within the program) that Swickrath has indeed perhaps not improved the program.  When Swickrath came on the scene I felt that LC did play harder than previous teams from LC.  Not sure if this has subsided or not since I haven't seen them play this year.  However, I do think that the individual's post does have some merit and some of the issues he/she brings forward are worthy of discussion.

I wonder what Scottie thinks?  Or if he is able to provide an opinion on it?

Note:  Too bad I haven't seen Steelyglen around on the board because one could only imagine his thoughts on LC since he was always winning bets with LC's fans on the board!  He was convinced that LC would never win consistently...Kinda of the Miami Dolphins theory!

Trash talking at a VWC game?  That would be like, it would be like, um, ... words utterly fail me!

RMC looked really solid when I saw them play Guilford.  Patient, patient, patient.  I guess I've got to pick 'em this weekend, even in the fishtank, which is amazing.  They way I see it, for VWC to win, they'll have to disrupt that passing game in a big way.  For RMC to win, they'll have to not get in a track meet.

Trivia fact:  Guilford's high rebounder against Roanoke?  Clay Henson!

By the way folks, the ODAC has a podcast now. Go to odaconline.com and you should be able to find the link for it fairly easily

Also, Emory & Henry named their basketball court after Bob Johnson over the weekend. It is now called Bob Johnson Court!

Nice - and well deserved.  Bob's court is now in session ... or should I say Bob's court is now in "system"?!

badcall!

What a wide open race in conference this season!  Here's the way I see it shaking out heading into the tournamnet
1  RMC-could drop 1 or 2 spots lower
2  VWC-shouldn't lose any more games at home
3  GC-Sanborn back will keep them near the top
4  RC-experience could push them higher
5  HSC-will bounce back from rough start and finish middle of the pack
6  W&L-highest paid coach in the league finally paying dividends
7  EMU-young talent needs to play more than older guys for them to move up
8  BC-no point guard/no post players-how have they won this many games?
9  LC-could finish 8th ahead of BC
10  E&H-5 home losses already will be hard to overcome

Looking forward to watching how things turn out!

Badcall--

You say VWC shouldn't lose any more games at home...They actually have a tough home schedule remaining beginning with RMC this Saturday, Guilford (2/3), Roanoke (2/8), and Washington & Lee (2/9).  I am not saying that they can't win all 4 of these games, but these teams are currently the top teams in the ODAC.  In particular, I would have to think if they are able to go 3-1 against these teams then Coach Macedo would be happy.  2-2 against these 4 teams is not out of the realm of possibility in my opinion.

And on another note...anything is within the realm of possibility, which is basically the message of your post given the fact that you caveat every one of your selections with the possibility that the team could move up/down one or two spots!  You would be a great analyst for the all-might sports "network"!

What I find interesting is that that post didn't come from anywhere within 500 miles of Lynchburg's campus. So it's someone who's so disgruntled he's not even in the same time zone anymore.

Pat ..... I wonder if the person knew that you would comment on their location and therefore asked a friend to put the post on from their friend's computer -- more than 500 miles away.  Just a thought.

Jacketlawyer-we're gonna miss ya.......Listen to Marty and Co on the web....

Thanks man!!  I hope we do come away with a win there.  I can't remember the last time we beat the Fish in the Tank. :P

Lynchburg is a great place to live if you're an ODAC fan because you're never more than 2 hours away from every school in the conference.  Except for VWC and E&H, of course! ;D

Unfortunately I think Steelyglen and his abacus have retired.  Haven't seen him around this year. :'(
