Jacketlawyer-we're gonna miss ya.......Listen to Marty and Co on the web....

Thanks man!!  I hope we do come away with a win there.  I can't remember the last time we beat the Fish in the Tank. :P

Lynchburg is a great place to live if you're an ODAC fan because you're never more than 2 hours away from every school in the conference.  Except for VWC and E&H, of course! ;D

I concur. Lynchburg (or in the hills near Lynchburg  ;D) is a great place to live for the reasons you mention and many more.  ;)

I just took a look at the ODAC standings and it's crazy how extreme the range is this season.  Very top-heavy (or bottom-heavy, depending on how you look at it).

If the tourny started today, W&L would be the 5th seed with a 6-2 conf. record!!!  You'd think that mark would bring you to a higher seed.  Will the top teams continue to feast on EMU/LC/E&H?  Who will be the 8th seed out of that trio of teams?

Interesting storylines...

Well LC goes on the road to face E&H on Wednesday then hosts EMU on Saturday, so if LC happens to go 2-0 on that stretch they would be the front runner I would imagine...

Pat , just a question. When did that fact start? I know of a team in the past that carried a lost to a D-1 team on their record all year. Was that their own choice?

No. Exhibition games, ones before the regular season starts, have never counted in the record. If you play a D-I school in the regular season then it counts, as always.
As mentioned before, the D-I exhibition versus South Carolina in Columbia was possible because Gamecock Head Coach Dave Odom is Guilford College Class of 1965 where he lettered in three sports - football, basketball and baseball.  Dave's very supportive of Guilford and saw the game as an opportunity to showcase the school and Ben Strong while giving his team a preseason test.  I've met Dave at several school functions and at Homecoming football games - a nice guy who'll always root for the Quakers.

     Hey Hasa....where did Dave's son go to school? Sorry Hasa.....I couldn't resist.  ;) :D

Steely - you are hilarious ;D I'm picking Coach Butterfield as COY!

Yeah, yeah, I know Ryan was a Tiger.  :)  Is he still one of Greenberg's assistants at VaTech?

Hasa.....I had forgotten that Ryan was at  VT. Sure enough, he is still there. One of the other assistants is a Ferrum grad and the Dir of Basketball Operations is a Macon grad. Pretty impressive!! I had also forgotten that Paul Debnam, (from my old stomping grounds/Prince Edward County HS) was on the Tech roster. I was actually at the Duke/VT game last Thursday night. My GF was able to get tix from one of her clients that is a VT donor. Of course, now that he knows that she and her niece went decked out in Duke clothing (signs, face paint and all), I doubt we will ever get those tix again.  :D :D

GuilfordAlum

you also got Bill Old on staff at Va Tech, former assistant for Odom, and Randolph Macon alum. Alot of good talent out there in coaching staff with ODAC ties.

I might as well throw in my picks for this week. Now I've been out of touch for a spell here, so bear with me...but I think I'm close! Hasanova thanks for the rhymes...Busta! I feel so special  ;D

Jan.30th

Bridgewater ( I think Shane Burnette will be huge)
E & H  ( David Carver will be the difference)
VWC ( Jason Nickerson will be too tough for the Sydney's)
W&L (no Neal Lewis the Royals have no inside game)

Feb.2nd

Bridgewater( Brad Harrington goes for 25+)
Randy Mac (Tim Smith's guard play too much the Quakers)
EMU ( Quincy Longacre sighting is good news for the emu's)
Roanoke ( Colby Leftwich is better than advertised)
VWC (Tim Petrillo can throw it in from anywhere)

Feb.3rd

Sydney (I think Bobby Jackson has 1 game of eligibilty left)
Bridgewater (Justin Bourne is an underrated PG)
Randy Mac (Matt Meehan is All-America material)
Guilford (Aron McMillen will outperform Ron Yuhasz this afternoon)

WHOA now Steely -- take it easy on the flashback train.

I remember Tim Smith, Denbow used to tell me stories...of course I had a particular interest in Tim Smith's career, considering of course that he has my name.

Pat Coleman

I hate to be a stick in the mud, but we still have a pick-em thread, and that's where picks belong.

I know this annoyed Steelyglen before and I fear it may again, but the rules have not changed.

BTW, if Strong gets to 2,334 points he would have 25th place all-time in Division III to himself.

Thanks for that note, Pat.  That would be super.  With 1900 now, Ben would need 434 more points.  Guilford has at least 10 more games this year (9 in the regular season and at least one in the ODAC tournament), so I think he'll need a few more postseason games to make it.  Last season the Quakers played 29 games with only 24 regular season games and one-and-done in the ODAC tournament.  Hopefully, Salem will be kinder this season and we can also win a few in March.  :)

Hasa, don't be such a pessimist - 6 'Lincoln' games would do it! ;D

Truthfully, the impact of a "Lincoln" game did occur to me, but I'm not sure any player will ever have two of those in his career.  :)  Besides, at 59 points a pop, it would take about 7.3 games to get 434!  lol
