Big Win for the quakers today, havin sanborn back makes a big difference as it changes the lineup completely, looks like guilford did a much better job on the boards than the first appearance with the jackets.

Wow!  I just saw the score, 69-51.  This game had me worried, but sounds as though the Quakers led start to finish.  Another good game for Strong!  Whew!  Now we can concentrate on VWC who, by the way, haven't gone down since their loss to Guilford in Greensboro on January 13.

Thanks EMUFan,

I didn't get it until tonight, but I wasn't in the car to be able to listen until about 3:30 and I found the game and heard the Tigers were up 15 with 1:30 to go.  Appreciate the response though.

I'm back, as Master Samwise said.

Getting the ball on the blocks, then doing something with it is what RMC didn't do today against Guilford.  I thought Guilford's defense was stellar, and the offense was pretty good.  Seriously, if the Quakers play defense like that, they'll win a lot of games!

RMC did do a good job on the boards, though, with Guilford having only a tiny advantage there.

As far a physical play:  I don't remember a single foul called away from the ball today at RMC.  I'm amazed that some of that stuff isn't considered a foul in basketball.  Smashing, bashing, mashing and clutching isn't a foul, I guess.  :o Whew!  Tough sport.
My hat is off to Guilford's defense and shot selection today.

The Generals start their 4  in a row away from home - Roanoke, Guilford , Macon & lastly the Marlins.

Hopefully they'll step up. This stretch will tell us a lot about W&L.

Go Gennies

Looks like the Gennies won at Roanoke in overtime.  Nice way to start a tough series of games.

Great win Generals!

A big crowd (with a nice contingent from Lexington). To quote a W&L guard - "the most physical game I've ever played in". The ref's let'em play - it was a battle & the Gennies survived a 9 minute drought to start the 2nd half. A great team win - they showed a lot of heart.

Next up  -  the formidable Quakers.
If you make every game a life and death proposition, you're going to have problems. For one thing, you'll be dead a lot. Dean Smith

algernon, i believe i have to disagree with the Quaker prediction tomorrow. The quakers were able to win with the sanborn-less shorter linup, i believe they will be able to win tomorrow with him, which gives them a taller, more seasoned lineup. This will hopefully be the first win for the Quakers at the Batten since 2004.

Have to agree with sludge, alot of mashing and bashing at the R-MC game. Quakers looked good. Play like that today,  and they walk out of the Batten with a W.
Can't figure out what is up with the jackets, but I will say this( Old posters will remember this name, Tim Smith. )Not one of the current players could hold his socks, NOT ONE!!!!!

The Jackets are obviously a very good team - you don't win a dozen in a row if you aren't - but they have to be worried about scoring a total of 89 points in consecutive 18-point losses to two of the better teams in the ODAC.  That doesn't bode well in February unless adjustments are made.

Yesterday's RMC/GC game was a pleasant surprise for me.  I'm not surprised the Quakers won (although I admit to being worried!), but the margin and wire-to-wire lead were unexpected.  As GuilfordAlum said, it's great to have Sanborn back.  The Quakers lost a few without him (including to RMC), so I think his return is very positive.  I guess we'll find out in a very tough game versus the Marlins this afternoon!  Peace

If Swickrath is not "relieved of his duties" after the season is over, I'm never going to donate a single damn cent to LC. I'm sick of sitting by and seeing the team get blown out game after game by every single ODAC team. I'm sick of seeing a team loaded  with talent not even competing in 75% of their games. I'm sick of seeing a team in dire need of coaching not receiving the coaching they need. I'm sick of seeing a team look completely lost on both ends of the floor because they aren't taught anything in practice or are taught it completely wrong. I'm sick of seeing a coach let his team play on the court like a bunch of chickens with their heads cut off. I'm sick of seeing Swickrath bring in players with such low bball IQ that they commit asinine errors that even OK high school players don't commit. But most importantly, I'm sick of seeing Swickrath idly sit by and find all this crap acceptable. It's embarrassing to admit that I'm a fan of the LC men's basketball team.

I don't even care if the new coach we bring in can't recruit any sort of talent at all as long as he can ensure me they will work hard for a full 40-minutes, will execute the offense and the defense, and will play as a team. I don't even care if we go 0-25 with the new coach as long as I see that. I'd rather see go 0-25 playing the right way than watching a team go 3-22 playing the wrong way virtually every single game, at least the 0-25 team would be worth watching once in a while.

But if LC doesn't relieve Swickrath of his duties before the school year is over, the school will never get another cent from me.

and I just wake up to an d3hoops email alert notifying me of this post? I was trying to forget yesterday's game after the big win by the women's team in the second part of the doubleheader last night...

When considering Lynchburg College's fortunes this season in men's basketball, you have to admit losing by 35 at home to the team with whom you were tied for last place (EMU 87, LC 52) does give you a stark reminder of how poorly you're competing within the league.  With that said, however, sometimes it seems the relative anonymity of the internet makes us willing to say things we might not say in person.  Would lynchburgcollege say everything he/she just posted in a face-to-face meeting with John Swickrath and his family?  Maybe, but I say probably not.   If LC's AD makes a change after the season, it will probably not be a surprise to the school, the players, the alumni ... or John Swickrath ... but hopefully it will be done professionally and without personal attacks.  Hopefully, the team and coaches can rally and finish the season on a high note.  Peace
