OH BOY . . . . . . . . . . . . . >:(

We covered the ODAC academic argument ad nauseam last summer on the ODAC football board, as Hasa and Allsky will attest.

I'm ducking before the you-know-what hits the fan. 8)

Yes, we certainly did (cover it ad nauseum)!  I actually saw this coming when I read GuilfordAlum's post.  I believe I know who the young man is and I think he's a former player, but not a starter.  A very nice, thoughtful guy, so please just chalk the faux pas up to inexperience and not malice.

I think everyone concedes W&L's position as the academic leader in the ODAC ... there's just too much empirical evidence to back it up ... and I say congratulations!  W&L's lofty status makes us all look good by association!  As for the rest of us, each school has its positive merits that make it special.  I know firsthand Guilford does ... and, from what I can see, so do the other ODAC schools!   Peace

Wow, tough crowd!  Even the peacemakers are getting smites.  lol

Well, of course, it makes great good sense that the thugs from the beach would have the lowest SAT scores. And, thank goodness, RMC doesn't have any VWC friends who are idiots. Whew. I was worried there for a minute. Get on with it boys. Stay with basketball. That's what this site is all about. That's why Coleman created it. B-A-S-K-E-T-B-A-L-L.

Another key match-up tomorrow night in Greensboro!  Guilford and W&L both on winning streaks and both with only two ODAC losses, so the winner will be the sole leader.  I don't know of any injuries for the Quakers and I hope the Generals are healthy as well.  Hopefully, a lot of students will turn out and it'll be a great game ... I'll definitely be there!  Any predictions?  I believe the Quakers will win by about 10.  :)

My prediction is Guilford pulls away in the second half and wins by 8

Sorry folks....I think I am the one that started all this by asking why there were no Virginia players on the W&L roster.  :-[   We gridiron types are just running around aimlessly causing trouble until football starts back up.  ;D  ;)

I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I can almost guarantee that among the VA-ODAC schools, W&L has the lowest percentage of Virginian undergrads.  The number is probably around 35-40%.  Maybe lower, I don't know.  The point is, as a nationally well-ranked liberal arts college, W&L gets kids from all over the place.

For what it's worth (not much, I'll admit), only 16 percent of W&L undergrads in 2007-08 hail from the Commonwealth.

It's finally starting to dawn on me how BIG Wednesday night's W&L/GC game is!  Here are some thoughts...

-- If W&L goes to Greensboro and wins, they will be on top of the ODAC with a 9-2 record.  Furthermore, a win would ensure them at least a 2-2 mark on their current 4 game road run.

-- W&L is shooting an impressive .501 percent for the season (in no small part due to the efficient scoring of Femi, who is well over 50% for his career).  Meanwhile, the Quakers' FG % defense is best in the ODAC at .361.  W&L scores efficiently, and Guilford stops opponents from scoring....something's gotta give.

-- Among the ODAC road venues, W&L seems to have had more success at Ragan-Brown in recent years than at other gyms (W&L did finally win a game in the Bast Center, the first in 19 years).  Over the past 5 years, the Gennies have won 2 out of 5 at Guilford, and one of those losses was by 1 point.

-- The Greg Bienemann/Ben Strong duel should be worth the price of admission...I've seen both play but not for 2 years now...sad I'm missing out.  It would be nice if Femi replicated the fast-break dunk he had over Ben Strong at the Warner Center when they were both freshman in '04-'05.  That was the sickest W&L basketball memory I can conjure.

Keep the streaking alive Gennies!  Let's go W&L!

Funny you should say this today because I just got an update from Guilford College along the same lines.  The percentage is higher than W&L's 16%, but 37% of Guilford's 1400 traditional age students are from NC.  Naturally, the majority of the 1200 adult education students who normally attend at night are from NC as are all of the 100 academically gifted Guilford County high school students enrolled in the Early College at Guilford (ECG).  For those of you who don't know about the ECG, the 9th and 10th graders have their own classrooms/teachers on campus and the 11th and 12th graders take any college classes they want with the traditional age students.  They have access to all facilities on campus except they cannot go in dormitories.  The Early College has its own principal/offices on campus and Guilford County pays the tuition and fees to Guilford College.  The ECG admission is very competitive and is open to any qualified HS student in the county (think bored 10th grader who's already made 1500 on the SAT and knows more about calculus than his HS teacher).  The 11th and 12th graders get college credit and, after two years, can transfer to another college or choose to complete their degree with two more years at Guilford.

I'll give you a report late tomorrow night.  I'm looking forward to this game as well!  It should be a good one!

THe most impressive thing about W&L being near the top of the ODAC standings is that they are still winning a lot despite shooting under 60% at the free throw line in ODAC games.  :o Makes you wonder if that will come to bite them in the butt eventually.

sludge

Big game for Guilford and W&L, you bet.

Are you sure its not a Bienemann - Sanborn match up, though?    :)
