Quote from: DenbowsRoomie on February 05, 2008, 02:21:51 PM-- W&L is shooting an impressive .501 percent for the season (in no small part due to the efficient scoring of Femi, who is well over 50% for his career).  Meanwhile, the Quakers' FG % defense is best in the ODAC at .361.  W&L scores efficiently, and Guilford stops opponents from scoring....something's gotta give.
what if w&l shoots .431 for the game? :)

Depends - are you giving Ben 15 or 35? ;D

Hey D-Mac-I see you're on...what's your take on the big GC-W&L game tomorrow nite?,,,,

Dave 'd-mac' McHugh

I am actually looking forward to the game... trying to make sure I can watch/listen/enjoy the stats tomorrow night.

I have certainly seen a lot of Guilford in the last few seasons and have been impressed - as many people know.

I did get a chance to see W&L this season at Goucher. I was VERY impressed with them. The pre-notions are always the same, when you talk about the ODAC, W&L is never in the conversation. However, with Biennemann on the inside, they are very good team. He is a very good talent with a lot of ability. I actually would probably watch the battle between Bienneman and Strong - if I could watch on video. (Alas, I won't be able to, will listen in instead). And W&L is playing very well this season. Their in-conference record is very impressive and shows that maybe this is a bigger race than anyone thought.

I certainly think Guilford may be a better team especially when it comes to experience than W&L. But if W&L plays as well as I saw them in a crushing defeat of Goucher, and with the recent struggles Guilford has in conference, the Generals may have a very good chance.

Though, Guilford showed in the last two games they may have woken up a bit and gotten the injury bug out of the way. Those wins over RMC and VWC were VERY impressive.

By the way - I am partial to Chris McHugh for W&L - strickly because he gave me the first chance in my 13 seasons of announcing games at Goucher... to say my own last name! I don't think I missed any basket or assist opportunities :).

Thanks D-Mac for your always intuitive insight-I may be wrong, but I think the GC students may have a small part in this.I think by virtue of this one being in Greensboro and the roll the Quakers are on they will pull this out by a "Strong" slight margin-I will pull out the old adage "BIG PLAYERS PLAY BIG IN BIG GAMES",especially at home-if this were in Lexington,it may be the other way around.Big Ben DESTROYED us in ashland on saturday and also VWC on sunday last weekend, but also his supporting cast played well.GC by 5.......with the student section leading the noisy way....

Dave 'd-mac' McHugh

You have a very good point. This game being played at Guilford gives the Quakers a very big advantage. If this was at W&L... I wouldn't be surprised if W&L pulled it off. Though... W&L has a very tough week ahead. I will be very interested to see if they can go 2-1 or 3-0. Interested enough to maybe think about getting them on "Hoopsville", :-)... but don't quote me.

I know I'm just a little slanted(just a little) D-Mac,but I don't think they'll win in Crenshaw Gym saturday just because they've already gotten us once-I may be wrong-but Mike Rhoades will have our kids ready....and the students are back from J-Term break----yellow #6 jerseys make that student section
a sea of lemon and black....at least i hope so.........I'll be there for the game sunday w/Roanoke but not saturday.......They may upset VWC on sunday..........but that speed and quickness of the Fish is tough...especially in the Tank.......

Oh... I do realize they may not surprise twice... thus why I would be very impressed!

If they do,then I'm on board, too!!!They're certainly talented and experienced enough to do so,I'm just not convinced yet-they beat us in dec in OT for the first time in how many years?I just don't think they can get us in crenshaw, especially since we know what's coming this time....hope so,anyways ::)

Over the past few seasons, I've seen (or listened to) a couple of disappointing losses by Guilford to W&L, so I never take this game for granted.  Since the Generals are 12-5, 8-2, they've proven they're for real this season!  I'm greatly encouraged by Guilford's 6-game winning streak, but guess what, W&L's won six in a row too!  Taking off my partisan hat as much as I can, I do, however, give a slight edge to the Quakers tonight for the following reasons:

- The game's in Greensboro
- Sanborn is healthy again (and the two ODAC losses came without him)
- Strong seems stronger than ever
- The strength of GC's recent four road wins, especially at RMC and VWC
- W&L's 2-2 against RC (1-1), RMC (1-0) and VWC (0-1) while Guilford is 4-2 (RC 1-1, RMC 1-1 and VWC 2-0).   I know comparative scores can be tricky, but it looks as though GC's a little better head-to-head.  GC has an advantage by having all 6 games out of the way, while W&L still has RMC and VWC again.

Bienemann's a player, no doubt about it.  Any school would love to have him on their team!  If they maintain the statistical status quo, however, and GC wins the ODAC regular season title, I think Strong will be POY again.

I will definitely be in the stands tonight and will watch both players - and teams -  closely.  It should be a great game!  I love games with something on the line!

Will be attending this year's edition of the Yellow Jacket-Hornet Classic here in Lynchburg at 7:00.  Sure to be a good one.  I hope this year's results are different from last year's.  I think I was in a coma for a few days (daze) after that. 8)

Yeah, I know.  Love that game, too.  As good as Yankees-Red Sox in my opinion. :)

But my Jackets are in town, and I've not been able to travel as much as I'd hoped this season.  Gotta see 'em.  Will be wearin' my camo Virginia Law cap if you change your mind.

GO JACKETS!!

Hey, if the RMC/LC game's at 7 pm and the Duke/UNC game's at 9, you shouldn't miss too much - assuming you live reasonably close to LC.   Without all the TV timeouts you see in DI, a DIII game can be over by 8:45.  :)

Thanks Hasa!! Depending on how many stop lights I catch in Madison Heights, I live about 45-50 minutes from LC. The way work is going today, I may be sitting here in my office at 7:00.  :'(

I doubt anyone would favor W&L on the road for the next three games (other than Denbow's Roomie and me). These should be fun to watch. I offer some food for thought. W&L has beaten GC before. I believe they can do it again. Head to head Strong and Bienemann have played 147 & 148 minutes against each others team, over their college careers. Bienemann leads by12 in the scoring column and Strong leads by 6 on the boards. I don't know if they'll match up against one another tonight. I hope they both bring their "A" game (well, maybe I really don't want Ben Strong to bring his "A" game).

As far as RMC goes consider this; during the previous 3 seasons RMC has  blown out W&L 3 times (18-32 pt. wins) 2 of those in Lexington. RMC has also won by 5 twice & 4 once; with 2 of those games in Ashland. This is a much better W&L than the ODAC has seen in years and this year they have proven capable of winning some close games. W&L is also undefeated on the road in the ODAC. If I was a RMC fan I'd be giving points. That being said I think the Generals can do a lot more than cover. They can win outright.

Then on to VW and another shot at another history making win!
