Mr. Ypsi

In the Daily Dose it was mentioned that Ben Strong was an obvious lock for the all-2000s team.  Players still playing were apparently effectively ineligible (since it's still to be determined exactly how high they would go).

I agree, let them finish playing before you go messing with retrospectives.  I say, bring on the games~!

Hey, sludge.  Are you and muckraker going to HSC for tomorrow night's game?  I know it's a Wednesday, but maybe that's not too far to go from the Triangle area.  Ben, Caleb, Eric and Ray only have between 6 and 14 (gosh, I hope so!) more games, so warm up the car and hit the road!  lol

At the LC game last Saturday, muckraker showed me a front-page article on Ben in a recent edition of the Durham Morning Herald, but I didn't get a chance to read it.  Wonder if she'd mind bringing it again for the BC and/or EMU games this weekend.  I'd like to read it.  Thanks!

The 1999 national runnerup Hampden-Sydney Tigers played against UW-Platteville's 2nd teamer, Merrill Brunson, in the double OT national title game.

The 2004 senior class of Monroe, Randall, Willson, Holman, and Thompson were freshmen when they lost a 2nd round NCAA Tournament game to William Paterson's 1st teamer, Horace Jenkins, in New Jersey in 2001.

Two years later, the same class handed a loss to Illinois Wesleyan's 3rd teamer, Adam Dauksas, and 4th teamer, Keelan Amelianovich, in the 2003 Sweet Sixteen at Randolph-Macon .... both were only freshmen at the time .... and then went on to defeat UW-Oshkosh's 3rd teamer, Tim Dworak, a senior, in the Elite Eight.  The following year, as seniors, they defeated Virginia Wesleyan's 3rd teamer, Brandon Adair (just a freshman) in the ODAC Championship Game.

To sum it up, the 2004 Tiger class won some games against some very fine D3 basketball players.

Hey sludge, I went online and found the Durham Herald-Sun articles about Strong, Kimbrough and the Quakers.  Nicely done.  You have to register and get a password to read them,  but perhaps some other ODAC fans will enjoy them too:

The HSC game should be a good one; HSC is always tough at home.  We'll be there.

GC 15th, VWC 23rd, RMC with votes.

These are the 3 ODAC teams who currently have no more than 5 losses.

Virginia Wesleyan, with 5 losses already, will probably not get to the NCAAs this year unless they either (1) win the ODAC tourney, or (2) defeat Randolph-Macon this coming Saturday and then get to the ODAC championship game before they lose again.  Finishing the season with a total of 7 losses would make it very difficult for them to get in.

Guilford and Randolph-Macon can each lose a game and finish the regular season with a 20-5 record.  Then, if they get to the ODAC championship game before losing again, they'd be in a pretty good position to get a bid.  However, I think that finishing 20-5 and then losing in the semifinal to finish 21-6 would put either team in a "chancy" position for an NCAA bid.

Regional rankings out-Guilford #3,VWC 5th and the Jackets are #8-the games tonite and saturday are HUGE now........GO JACKETS

Wish I could be at Sydney tonight!  Maybe they'll schedule this game on the weekend sometime - it's just too hard to go during the week.  No offense to my friends from HSC, but good luck Quakers!

Jackets win 72-64!I had to listen to the eagles feed-they cut it to 1 point with 1:30 left and Short drains a 3 to put us up by 4,then  Varela scores twice-once after RMC had drained the shot clock to .02-great win for RMC-now is the BIG test at home against VWC...........

FortyFour

VWC knocks of EMU, 78-68.  Tyler Fantin with a monster game - 26 points, 12 boards.

checked the box for tonight's game, no Carlson. Any idea what's up with that?

Randolph College has just achieved its first ODAC victory, winning tonight against Lynchburg College.

The Wildcat's ODAC record is now 1-4 ....
  12/5 - EMU wins, 57-53
  12/8 - Lynchburg wins, 74-70
    2/6 - EMU wins, 69-57
  2/11 - Bridgewater wins, 72-48
  2/13 - Randolph defeats Lynchburg, 77-65.

The Wildcats now have a 7-13 record for the season, but this is only their second victory against a D3 team -- the first was against Washington College -- and they have another 5 victories against the likes of:

Christendom College
Patrick Henry College (2 wins)
Maryland Bible College (2 wins)
