I think it would be something to see the following combo: Hunter,Short, Brown,Jones and Velarda and let em run!

checked the box for tonight's game, no Carlson. Any idea what's up with that?
you know, since i listened to the bc feed and was so caught up in the game i didn't even notice-i'll find out in the a.m and report back-i don't want to speculate at this time...i do know mike has had trouble w/him and his grades have at times been suspect...that and his behavior(i.e.@ VWC..).has not been up to  standard.....i will let you know DonHo.....

He does like to chatter on the court; I have no idea what he does off the court. They'll miss him anytime he doesn't play.
If you make every game a life and death proposition, you're going to have problems. For one thing, you'll be dead a lot. Dean Smith

Tonight E&H tried to change it up against the Generals. They played a half court type game for the 1st half. W&L was so flustered they were down 10 early. The Gennies lead by 9 at the half. E&H was their old self in the 2nd half & lost by 18.

exactly DonHo!Those that just see us a game or 2 a yr don't see what we see.....He definitely was a non-factor in the game i saw sunday in crenshaw-the line-up you wanted to see may be the one you see next yr.......but add Brandon Braxton to the mix -6'8" and he can run....and a dean's list student and a damn nice kid,too......thr Runnin' Jax!.....who'd have thought.......

One more thing-watch Danny Jones..as much as i hate to admit it,he looks exactly like his more experienced foe this weekend,Tyler Fantin-they are carbon-copies of each other......only Danny is a freshman........

The Quakers beat the Tigers 78-71 at Sydney for their 9th straight win.  Strong with 32 and 11 and twin tower Sanborn with 13.  At this point, I think it would be pretty tough for anyone to unseat Ben for ODAC POY.  Strong's 32 puts him at 2033, so he jumped over World B. Free and David Smith tonight and sits in second place all time at Guilford.  He'll never catch former NBA All-Star Bob Kauffman, but what a career.

Hasa...not sure if you listened to the H-S feed last night but Cannon Watson (WFLO announcer) was highly complimentary of the Quaker team. (talented, well coach, etc) I missed the first half but thought the Tigers hung tough in the second. Seemed like every time the Tigers would get close, the Quakers would make a key bucket.  I don't know what the final stats were but it also seemed like GC got quite a few 2nd chance baskets down the stretch. Even a dumb ole baseball/football guy like myself knows you can't give up 2nd chance buckets to a team as talented as the Quakers.    ;)  I have not seen Strong & Co. in person before and am looking forward to the ODAC tourney. Now don't let your boys go and pull a stunt like they did last year......OK?  Unless of course they end up facing the Tigers in the first round.  :D

Hey allsky, good to hear from you.  Actually, I didn't hear any of the game - a late night at work and computer problems both did me in.  I was only able to read the story after the fact.  Thanks for your comments and those of Cannon Watson.  The Quakers are indeed playing well right now and seem focused on a strong finish to the season - they've currently won nine in a row and, with luck, could win out in the regular season.  GC has three of their last four at home - none will be easy and, of course, we'll face a very good W&L team in Lexington!  Last year's ODAC "performance" (a first round loss to 7th-seeded BC) was a wake-up call and certainly stimulated Guilford once they got in the NCAA tournament.  Who knows what'll happen in Salem, but I guarantee the Quakers remember last season's outcome!  It's tough to beat any team three times in a season and your Tigers are certainly capable of beating Guilford!

Guys, Cannon Watson is one of the good guys and a terrific play-by-play commentator. A former college athlete himself, he knows the nuances of college sports and has a keen insight into the athlete. Hampden-Sydney is fortunate to have him. Although a Tiger fan, he's not a 100% "homer" and calls it like he sees it, good or bad. He doesn't throw out compliments unless warranted. Take his good words about the Quakers as sincere and well earned.

Now as for that band of color commentators he has to put up with... ;) ;D

I've never met Cannon Watson, but I've heard good things about him.  Thanks for your input as well.  I've watched the Quakers almost as much as sludge and, even though I'm a bit biased, I have to agree they're playing really well right now.  My paternal grandmother's maiden name was Watson, but I think Cannon may be the first person I've ever heard of with that first name - is it a nickname or his given name?  At any rate, what a great name for someone involved in sports!

Well, Cannon is such a good radio sportscaster that it seems that he has made the big-time!    ...  Just check this out:

It's funny-one of my college roomates at RMC who was a football player for us but from farmville, rob stanley,is a color commentator for HSC football-he's a riot!!

Cannon is one of the all time greats; color commentary: semi-morons, can only offer commentary like "the '74 NC State team wasn't all that good."   Rob Stanley, aka Oscar the Grouch, is terrific; his long time coaching background enables him to provide tremendous insight.

RMC1982, perhaps you also know my colleague in coaching the youth of southside va: he was the off the depth chart backup quarterback when Stanley was playing: Wild Bill from South Hill, legend of the scout team.
