Ohh how I fondly remember my trips to RMC...  The gentlemen in their top hats,  the ladies in their formal mumu's and chamber music played during timeouts.  A cross word would never pass through the lips of an RMC fan about an opponent during a game.  I always found it especially nice that the crowds would cheer just as vigorously for a good play as both ends of the floor.

Great post, Oldfish!  I laugh alot at many of the posts but this was one of the best.!! ;D

You forgot the waltz at the half, though. ;)

Yes, the battle for 6th between HSC and B'water hinges on HSC's games against W&L and RMC .... and BC's games against W&L and Roanoke.

Washington & Lee is looking at being seeded either #3, #4, or #5.  Having lost twice to Virginia Wesleyan, they cannot be seeded as high as #2.

Jacketlawyer - Glad you liked it...I am never sure how my "humor" translates to the written word.

One other thing about the VWC/RMC game.  While I don't know what happened between the VWC players and the RMC fans during that game I know that I have complete faith that Coach Macedo (and for that matter ALL of the ODAC coaches that I am familiar with)  runs the team in an honorable way and would only tolerate so much.  And while I kid that the RMC fans may have had something to do with the VWC players behavior...I say GOOD!  I truly believe that I speak for the vast majority of former players who would say that we wanted the most vocal, nasty, booing, cheering, screaming....talkin about my momma crowds that we could get.  We weren't paid, didn't get scholarships, had little hope of playing beyond college and played (and practiced countless hours) just to get in front of a crowd that cares enough to boo us!

I don't know how many people here actually played in the odac but for those of you that did I bet you have told many stories about the times you played at VWC, RMC, HSC, Roanoke or EMU.  Why?  Because those crowds could be brutal!  And it was great.  I got my fair share (or more) of the attention from the crowds, especially for a bench guy, and when I think back I don't do anything but smile.   When I think of the games at LC, W&L or GC...well I don't really think about those games because very little sticks out besides the old plastic floor at GC.

I am aware that I often give the RMC and HSC fans a hard time...Lets just consider it a little payback from my time playing...but thanks...because those were some of the best times I had.

I hate losing so don't get me wrong but EMU is so young.  If this core group of freshman and sophomores stick around for four years, EMU will have a great program in the near future.  They have lost some close games this year that would make them a .500 team, and I am hoping they are learning from each close game.  Coach Dean and his staff will continue to do a great job of recruiting athletes and then they need to stick around for four years.
...

You bet, EMU seemed to me like a team on the way up.  They've changed from a total grind style of play in the past couple of years to now attacking the basket agressively, patiently moving the ball for shots when the lane is closed down, and at least sometimes, having hot outside shooting.

I can only guess that we should condemn these young men because we all know that the RMC fans are nothing but the most pleasant, level-headed fans with nary a bad word to say.  Ohh how I fondly remember my trips to RMC...  The gentlemen in their top hats,  the ladies in their formal mumu's and chamber music played during timeouts.  A cross word would never pass through the lips of an RMC fan about an opponent during a game.  I always found it especially nice that the crowds would cheer just as vigorously for a good play as both ends of the floor.

ohh the memories!

Great post and player perspective on that topic!

You might be comforted to know that Guilford now has a really nice wood bio cushion floor, courtesy of the alumni.
And at least some days, there's a student contingent willing to pass around bodies overhead and inform you loudly about how bad you suck.

I cringe a little, but so what?

Two big games for the Quakers this week - at W&L 7 pm Wednesday and E&H coming to Ragan-Brown at 2 pm on Saturday afternoon.  W&L gave GC fits on Feb. 6 and the Quakers eked it out 64-60.  The Generals are a good team and I'm sure they'd love nothing better than to win in Lexington.  With E&H, who knows?  Sometimes you win by 30 and sometimes they spring an upset by nailing 35 three-pointers!

Saturday is Senior Day and what a group it is - Strong, Kimbrough, Belkoski and Edmond!  To say the Quakers will be a different team next season is quite an understatement.  All Quaker fans and those who may have never seen this team play need to be there!  With E&H's style of play, I won't be a bit surprised to see 250 total points!  Good three-point shooting teams can give Guilford a test, so I am not assuming anything!

Finally, the 2007-08 Quakers have won 11 in a row, the longest streak since the World B. Free-led 1974-75 squad went 24-4 and won 14 in a row.  How far can this team go?  Who knows, but it'll be interesting to find out!   Guilford's record win streak, by the way, was in 1969-70.  That team started 3-3, had a closed meeting, and then ripped off 29 in a row before losing in the semifinals and consolation game of the NAIA national tournament.  They finished 32-5 which, I think, is the school record for wins in a season.  M. L. Carr and David Smith were both on that team and I feel privileged to have seen them play together!  This year's team makes me feel the same way!  Go Quakers!

LC defeats E&H 131-118

Sophomore forward Mason Wooldridge (New Canton, VA/Fork Union) recorded Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) season-highs of 45 points, 20 rebounds, and 11 assists to lead the Lynchburg College men's basketball team to a 131-118 win over Emory and Henry College in ODAC action.

yep, you read that correct! lol. that was one of the most dominating individual performances I have ever seen in my life!
not to take anything away from that performance, because a triple double is ALWAYS impressive, playing against "the system" clearly leads to some stat inflation - mu 6th man travis mcbryde had 35 and 18 against ehc earlier in the year

Tigers getting on a bit of a roll here down the stretch. Beating W&L by 21 with about 3 minutes to go.  ;D

We suck and or the Tigers have finally awakened.

Wow!  73-48 is a surprise.  I thought it would be a much closer game.  Which Generals team will the Quakers see Wednesday night and which Tigers team will be ready for the ODAC tournament?

The Tigers played their worst game of the season in Lexington a few weeks ago .... and I think they played one of their best of the season this evening.  They led by 13 at half-time and finished with a 25-point victory.  Hot shooting (58% ... and 9-20 from behind the arc), great rebounding (more than twice as many rebounds as W&L, 37-18), excellent defense (limiting W&L to only 35% FG%).

What a night for the seniors who played on Senior Night!

Drew Prehmus hit 5 of 9 from behind the arc, scoring a total of 21 points tonight, and had 7 rebounds and 3 steals.  With 232 three-pointers in his career, he needs only 2 more to tie the all-time HSC career record for three-pointers set by Ryan Odom (1992-96).  Drew now sits at 1275 career points, 14th on the all-time HSC career list, and will almost certainly finish his career among the top 10 at HSC.

Troy Kaase hit 7 of 8 to score 16 points along with 6 rebounds.  He's now at 1103 career points, even with the loss of three quarters of his junior year to injury.

Turner King had another 18 points, which puts him at 794 career points at this point in his sophomore year.  Turner also had another solid rebounding performance, with 6 rebounds, matching his 6.0 average for the season.

Karlis Trops had another fine evening, with 6 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists.
