Yep.

That was an awesome comeback.  HSC beats RMC 69-67.

They jump into the fishtank to take on the MARLINS.

I think the Marlins should advance to take on what should be GC.

Look out GC, lightning struck twice, but not three times.

My sentiments exactly.

Good luck to all four remaining teams (but maybe just a little more luck to those Marlins!)

Please do not want anyone to take my comments as negatives to any other teams.  Congrats to Guilford, Roanoke, VWC, and HSC.  All played well and all deserve to play on, and its great for everyone to support there teams, but just b/c your happy for your team, there is NO reason to talk crap about another team and/or their fans.  Thats really mature.  Good luck to the remaining teams and to an exciting rest of the tournament.  And hopefully some crazy way RMC gets a bid lol

rmc's post season aspirations in football and B-Ball ended by HSC, must add fuel to this rivalry.

Congratulations to GC, RC, VWC and HSC!  There should be two great semifinal games tomorrow night.   The 19 point comeback by the Tigers will have to be added to the legends that comprise the storied RMC/HSC rivalry.  Wow!  Hopefully, the Jackets will still get an invitation to the NCAA tournament, but I think they have to root for VWC or GC to win the ODAC.  If either RC or HSC snags the AQ, I see RMC staying at home - I just don't see the ODAC getting more than 3 bids.

Hopefully, the Jacket fans will hold their heads high - RMC's had a great season - and it may not be over!  I also hope all ODAC fans will give their opponents the same respect they want in return.  See you tomorrow.  Peace.

Congrats to Roanoke they played very well.

The Generals had difficulty gaining any momentum. A lot of strange or no call stuff ie. Bienemann breaks away at mid court trailing ref calls travel ,ref under hoop crosses his arms for intentional foul call - we lose the ball; Goodman in the air for an acrobatic lay up knocked to his back - no call, no basket - we lose the ball. This is the strangest sight I've ever seen  a ref lost his whistle and didn't even know it. It was laying on the floor in front the announcers - it is hard to get a call from a guy who doesn't have  whistle. I'm not saying we would have won; but it could have been a lot better game, if the Zebras displayed a modicum of competency. Why is it that AAU, HS & CYO refs seem a notch better than your typical ODAC ref?

OK that 's over.

Good Luck to HS, GC,RC & VW - the ODAC will get some fine representation in the NCAA's

The HSC-RMC lived up to what we had originally expected even with Sydney getting behind early.  The first half was all Macon.  The officials, I feel, let the players play more in the first half and, as I stated in an earlier post, that tends to favor Macon's in your face, physical (hands-on) defense.  This allowed Macon to build a 17-pt. halftime lead.  The officials (once again in my opinion) called a much tighter 2nd half and that allowed Sydney to claw back into it.  Macon played very hard in the second half and held Sydney back by a margin of 6 points for a while, but the Tigers finally overcame the deficit after Prehmus fouled out.

I have to comment on Justin Short.  He played a great game for Macon and almost single handedly carried them to a win.  In the first half with the shot clock winding down (and I think him not realizing it until almost the last second), he threw up a bomb from deep with a defender in his face and it was nothing but net.  At that point, I felt that it was not going to be HSC's night.  I think my sentiments were shared by most HSc's fans I saw in the hospitality room at half; however, I kept thinking about 2 years ago in the semis of the ODACs when HSC had a big halftime lead and then Macon stormed back to win it in the 2nd half.  I have seen too many big leads evaporate in this series and know to expect the unexpected.

As for tomorrow's matchups, I would say that both GC and VWC should be favored.  However, both were favored in last year's tournament and neither made it to the championship game.  I think that both games will be very competitive and RC and HSC will definitely have the fan advantage over GC and VWC.  That can be huge in a neutral site game but may still not be enough because of the talent levels of GC and VWC.  Anyway, I hope that all who are traveling to the games tomorrow travel safe and enjoy them.  I am looking forward to my return to Salem tomorrow to watch my Tigers again.  Hopefully they can repeat the magic they had last season in Salem.

I don't agree with the sermonizing about "having some class" .....  It seems to me that the post-game in-your-face kind of stuff on this board, while not necessary, has been pretty tame compared to the way that David Carlson and Jeremy Dixon behaved on the court at the end of the game in Fleet Gymnasium in January.  (Then again, the Carlson/Dixon standard for sportsmanship is a low one ... and I'm sure we can do a better on this board.)

The rivalry between these two teams is such that almost every Tiger fan I know would rather see Hampden-Sydney beat Randolph-Macon than anyone else.  When the Tigers came out for the second half tonight, 17 points behind a 20-5 Yellow Jacket team that had finished in a tie for second during the regular season .... well, a lot of teams might be ready to fold under those circumstances, but the Tigers played their hearts out and sent the Yellow Jackets packing, winning the second half by a score of 49-30.  To a Tiger fan, that is about as sweet as it gets!

Tonight wasn't as good as cutting down the nets in Ashland in 2003, but the Tigers' amazing comeback win on "Leap Day '08" will be well-remembered for quite some time.  It was even more fun than the Tigers' blowout win over the Yellow Jackets in Fleet Gymnasium at the end of the 2007 regular season.  Tiger fans are very happy about tonight's huge comeback win ....... and looking forward to another ODAC semifinal game against Virginia Wesleyan.

Looks like a sportsmanship initiative needs to be pursued for fans and not just the players...

Troy Kaase finished with 22 points and 15 rebounds last night, playing against some really BIG men on the Yellow Jacket squad.  Turner King had 18 points, and I think that anyone who watched him play would understand why I've said that he would be my first pick in the ODAC after Ben Strong.  The Tigers' final set play, with the missed Turner King shot, followed by the Troy Kaase tip-in to go ahead by 2 points with just 3.4 seconds left .... just fabulous!

Drew Prehmus has moved into 10th place in career points at Hampden-Sydney, with a total of 1319.  As noted recently, he is 2nd in HSC 3-pointers (241), behind T.J. Grimes (264).

Troy Kaase has a total of 1163 points, which puts him at 23rd on the career list among Tiger players.  (It probably goes without saying that, had he not lost 75% of last season to injury, Troy would probably have around 1500 career points, putting him among the top 7 HSC career scorers.)

Turner King now has 843 career points, near the end of his sophomore year.

ODAC FAN 1225,

Season is over. People like Mike Rhoades ruins the game. Stop talking. That's why your season is over. Cheer for sydney or wesleyan, roanoke or guilford. At least their(yes I said their, instead of there, you ignorant morons) season is still alive.

Good morning, Billy Jack.  While you're honing your (notice correct application of you're and your) writing skills, please recognize the word "people" is plural.  In your earlier sentence, "people" is the noun, not "Mike Rhoades."  The correct verb conjugation in this application, therefore, is "ruin."   I wouldn't be too hard on the Jackets if I were you.  They may return the favor with gusto when the Tigers inevitably lose to the Jackets another day.

Perhaps you should consider changing your handle to "Billy Smack."  Based on your early posts, I believe it's more apropos.   Have a nice day.

With a 20-6 record and ranked #7 in the South in the 2/27/08 ranking, one might think that Randolph-Macon would get one of the 17 Pool C bids, but what I'm hearing and seeing at this point suggests that the Yellow Jackets may have played their last game of the season.  Check out the Pool C discussion at http://www.d3sports.com/post/index.php?board=1478.0  Yellow Jacket fans must hope for wins by all the #1 seeds in tournaments around the country .... and also hope that Guilford or Virginia Wesleyan gets the ODAC AQ, maybe allowing the Yellow Jackets to squeeze in, with a lot of luck, as the 3rd ODAC team.

Both Guilford and Virginia Wesleyan are now locks for 1 or 2 Pool C bids, and both teams will play in the NCAA tournament ... even if Roanoke or Hampden-Sydney wins the ODAC tournament and gets the AQ.

Nova,

Don't forget that Billy Jack started posting as an E&H supporter.  So please don't assoicate him with HSC supporters.  I believe he is just trying to get something started.  I know in the late 90s and early 2000s, there were a lot of problems on this board with HSC-RMC posters talking smack and passing insults to one another.  That is not a time to which I want to see this board revert.  As some have said in the past, perhaps ignoring and not responding to comments such as these is the best course of action.

Congrats to the Tigers for one heckuva a comeback last night. What scrappy bunch that refused to quit. Special props to Troy Kaase. He had a tough first half but hung in there and made some clutch buckets in the 2nd half. I agree with the post on Justin Short. All you can say about that young man is WOW!! Macon is a very good team. They deserve a ticket to the dance but last night surely hurt their cause. I'm off to Salem again. More to follow.

GO TIGERS!!
