I think it's pretty safe to say that Pat Coleman is a ragging moron who results to acting like a little whining baby who got recess taken away from him whenever anyone argues against him.

In reading he seems like he's the most sane person in this conversation!

IF Pat were a 'ragging' moron, guilty of the other charges you suggest, it would be a safe bet that this would be your last post before the plug was pulled.  I'm betting that you will actually shame Lynchburg several more times before you disappear. :D

Did you perhaps mean "raging moron who resorts"?  Usually, a well written argument gets more credence than yours will ever garner, even when it uses "facts" as "unsafe" as yours.

There once was a newbie delighted
To post all his jabs unrequited.
It's sad, his spellchecker,
Can be bad, like his pecker,
And turn off his brain when excited!

+k!  As per usual, your rejoinder tops mine.

Something tells me no plug will need pulling - doubt LC will be back (and Scotty might kill him if he tries)! :D

Terrific Nova. Maybe that will stop the girls from their bickering. Karma for you(remember a couple of years ago when some idiot was deleting your karma -- now you have more than you know what to do with).

Algernon,

I just happened to glance at the master schedule. Don't know where to actually find it at this point. I know that it has been difficult finding those two extra out-of-conference games for many teams in the ODAC. The reputation of the ODAC might make it difficult for the traditional top-tier teams to find games in and around the state of VA. Which is probably why Hampden-Sydney and Virginia Wesleyan are traveling down to LaGrange early in the year.

Fields should shine this year for VWC. He's got some great back-up in Hassell and others. This kid Quinton McDuffie sounds like the real deal. Although I'm a little skeptical when someone calls FOY for themselves before a) they've made the team and b) the season hasn't even started yet. Interesting!

HSCfan

Maybe a little skeptical, but you have got to love his confidence and willingness to work hard for that accolade! The size of McDuffie (according to the VWC story, 6-5, 225) reminds me a little of Adair (oops, did I say that??  ;)). I certainly do not want to put him on that level yet - that would be very foolish of me - but Dave Macedo certainly knows how to run a great offense through a solid big man...something that McDuffie may give him.

Hassell is a wonderful presence given his ability to create match up problems, but the Fish never really had a consistent inside presence last year, which leads me to believe that they will be even more efficient offensively with McDuffie in the mix in 2008-09. Notice I said efficient and not productive, because the loss of TonTon and the man in Fantin will be felt. So will the leadership of D'juan Tucker, who I believe played a Marques Fitch-esque roll on that team.

And yes, Fields is a monster. It will be interesting seeing him finally able to demonstrate all of his skills without having to split touches with Balenga.

FortyFour

I agree with everyone's assessment on Fields.  From the handful of games I've seen him play, I've come away very impressed with his overall ability to score.  He's a capable 3-point shooter, solid free-throw shooter, can shoot off the dribble, and get to the rack as well as anyone in the league.  I think he might be the most complete offensive guard VWC has had in some time, and I think he will definitely shine this year.

As for McDuffie, if he's 225, I think he'd be a little bigger than Adair.  I will say this, he played on a high school team last year that produced two D-1 players, and still put up some pretty solid numbers (a double-double average).  I guess we'll see how good he is as a freshman in a few months.

VWC certainly does have a lot of question marks with all they've lost to graduation, but it does look like Macedo has added some pieces that should make the Fish very competitve in the ODAC this year.

FortyFour - Isn't it amazing that Coach Macedo seems to have a knack for selecting the right players at the right times.  ;D

ODACHOOPS

Who will the Fish run at pg with the loss of tucker?? Like hscfan mentioned I think Tucker played a much bigger role (both on and off the court) then most people realized..At times last year that team suffered chemistry problems and I believe it was Tuckers leadership that kept them together..Fields will do his thing that's a given but who do they have to make sure Fields is getting the ball when and where he needs to get it?? I think if they can get a solid pg to handle and distribute they will have 3 solid players at each position with Fields and Hassell.

jdubyadubya

ODACHOOPS - I think that job might fall to Terrell Dixon.

FortyFour

JWW,

Macedo does sure seem to have that knack!

I also agree that Terrell Dixon can be the "glue" guy for the Marlins.

As thin as the conference will be on experienced big men this year, this latest discussion has brought up another, and I believe more important question...who will fill the many voids at the point guard slot and be the floor generals for their team? You cannot overlook the advantage of having your primary ballhandler be the coach on the floor. Here's what I see so far...

R-MC: no queston, Justin Short is the man when it comes to leading a team. He can beat you by scoring, passing, or just thinking the game.

VWC: Terrell Dixon has yet to be in the spotlight, but he may be helped along via responsibility for bringing along the point guard recruit from Bethel whose name escapes me at the moment. Having a responsibility to a teammate is a great way to accelerate the leadership process.

BC: Who knows. For the past several years, the PG slot at Bridgewater has been a carousel. D.J. Billups filled the role well until he left the team midseason. Cecil can get the offense going, but I don't know if he contributes much else.

H-SC: Byron Lawton is a terrific floor leader and can get the ball to the hot man, but will he be able to score when he needs to like Short? This will be the first year that Lawton will be one of the main offensive threats.

GC: Kimbrough was personally my favorite ODAC point guard. Whether things were going well or were a bit out of whack, he always was a steadying presence with that Tim Duncan poker face of his. He flat-out played hard. T.C. Anderson is next in line (am I correct hasanova?)?

EMU: Don't know if it really matters as much on this team. They resemble the old E&H more than anyone and play about 12 guys. But someone will have to replace Parkes as far as being the emotional leader.

Noke: Melvin Felix is a scorer, but is he a true leader? Keith Carter and A.J. Dowell were just that. Page Moir's biggest challenge will be finding a point guard that can right the ship during tough times, because Peery can't do everything.

Lynchburg: Lost Kwame Safo, and I don't think that Echols is really an outspoken leader. I know that Wooldridge has a sturdy head on his shoulders, but again, what about when he is out of the game?

W&L: Here is a position where the Generals do have a lot to be proud of. Isaiah Goodman has gotten better and better each year, and by setting the tone on the defensive end for his club, he has made the Generals a much tougher bunch. He will need to increase his role this year.

E&H: They haven't had the opportunity to develop a floor general. Big challenge for Coach Russo.

Randolph: I know they got a HUGE recruit in Malcolm Nelson from Trinity in Richmond. He has the chance to step in right away and make an impact on that young team.

The team that finds the answer at point guard the fastest may be the best positioned to challenge Macon in the tourney. Any thoughts on that?
