I vote for Coach Doino ;D. Dave and Lauren were married Saturday in Roanoke. Congratulations Coach and Coach!

I like the hire but I do feel bad for Weller.

GoQuakers

With all the new coaches (EH, HS, Lynchburg, BW) this was the best hire of all for the ODAC.

Bridgewater brought a guy in that has never played or coached a day of DIII basketball.  He has no idea how to recruit without scholarships or deal with players who pay their own way to school.  The rest of the league should be ecstatic that Bridgewater wasn't smart enough to hire PW, a guy who has given nine years of his life to the program and would have energized a very talented team this season.  Glad to see Bridgewater didn't go that route and instead hired a DI guy.

GoQuakers,

Obviously, you don't know Coach Burgess.  He is a class act and will do good things for BC.

That being said, GO EMU

I guess that Leatherman had played Division III basketball  but when he came to Bridgewater in 1985, his experience as a Coach consisted of 13 years as a High School Coach and 6 years as an Assistant at James Madison. Bill Leatherman had never coached at the Division III level when he came to BC either.

Good coaches and great leaders can come from anywhere ... I'm sure Don Burgess is no exception.  People said the same things about Coach K when he was a relative unknown going from "DI" Army to Duke in 1980.

I have waited all day to collect my thoughts on the hire.  I will start by saying I am 100% biased towards PW Weller.  Weller was well-qualified for the job.  He has contacts in the world of recruiting and has a passion for Bridgewater.  He has his own mind of basketball philosophy and surely would not be a Coach Leatherman robotic clone, although some things he would probably do the same.

I guess I keep coming back to the same questions in my head... What made Don Burgess stand out to the hiring committee?  What makes him a better choice over PW Weller?

Judging from the comments made on the dnronline page, this hire needs to work, not for just Burgess, but also for Curt Kendall.  I respect Coach Kendall a great deal, but if this does not work, he is going to get a lot of criticism.

Quakers have finally posted their 2008-09 schedule:

http://www.guilford.edu/athletics/mbball/schedule.html

There are sixteen ODAC and nine nonconference games.  BC, W&L, EMU and RMC only once and HSC, LC, VWC, E&H, Randolph and Roanoke are home and away.  Interesting nonconference games with Hiram, Emory, McDaniel (a first, I think), NCWC, Greensboro, Averett, Methodist and a trip to Texas to play UT-Tyler and UT- Dallas.

I am getting a kick out of reading Brandon Adair's blog from Germany. I'm wondering if we can get Ben Strong to do the same from Israel. Is he there Sludge?

I think Ben's been in Israel since August 28th, but sludge needs to give us the latest.  A blog would be an excellent idea!
