Randolph-Macon's schedule is up:

http://www.rmc.edu/athletics/Mens/basketball/0809_schedule.aspx

Looks like a good one.  For those of us living in Lynchburg, we'll get to see the Jackets twice, once at Randolph, and the other at Lynchburg. 8)

After reviewing a couple of the new 16-game ODAC schedules with 11 teams, I don't see any of the dreaded Saturday/Sunday swings (think trips to E&H, then Guilford or RMC, then VWC).  Are they now "history"?

As far as I know, yes. Without looking at the schedules, I'm pretty sure it's on a Wed/Sat and/or a Mon/Wed/Sat rotation.

Thanks, Scottie.  That was the pattern I discerned as well.

Dear Fellow Posters: Happy First Day of Fall :D. You know what this means....now our thoughts and actions turn to basketball and we gear up for the first tip-off of the season. Way back when(the spring I think) we had some initial predictions of the 08/09 ODAC men's basketball season. I said then and I'll post again my prediction:

3. RMC
4. BC
5. HSC
6. RC
7. W&L
8. LC
9. EMU
10. E&H
11. RANDOLPH COLLEGE

Still in football mode, JWW, but I'll play.

Switch VWC with RMC, and those are my picks.  But you knew that! ;)

A few thoughts ....

RMC should be a unanimous pick for preseason #1.

VWC won't finish higher than #2.  Great team, as always, I'm sure, but the losses of Fantin and Balenga are BIG.

Guilford will struggle without the Strong One.

Bridgewater won't finish higher than 6th with a new coach.

Roanoke loses everyone except for Coach Moir .... right?  But this coach will never finish lower than 6th.

Lynchburg College will never finish higher than 10th in a league of 11 teams.  (Just kidding .... maybe they will, given a new coach.)

HSC is going to be ready, with Dee Vick (class of 1994) at the helm.  There is a new enthusiasm on the team, given the new coaching staff and Dee's experience with a tradition of Hampden-Sydney excellence on the court.  Although the Tigers will undoubtedly be feeling the losses of Kaase, Prehmus, and Murray, the Tigers bring back a solid core of last year's team.  (It's worth remembering that they beat the Yellow Jackets in the ODAC tournament last year without Murray, who was lost to injury for the last 2/3rds of the season, and with Drew Prehmus sitting on the bench during the last minutes after fouling out.  4 of the 5 players on the court at the end of this big win return for the Tigers.)

More specifically, Turner King returns as my pick for 2008-2009 ODAC POY and the Tigers bring back experienced players at all positions (Byron Lawton and Brent Dillard at point, Paul Matthews, Karlis Trops, Jyri Laakso, and Lane Medlin).

The Tigers also have a couple of experienced transfer players this year.  Jonathan Mudd is a 6-2 point guard who averaged 20 minutes/game last year for Shaw University as sophomore.  Shane Payne is a 6-5 205lb G/F who got into 9 games as a freshman with the Florida Gators last year.

1. RMC
2. HSC
3. VWC
4. Guilford
5. W&L
6. Roanoke
7. Bridgewater
8. Randolph
9. E&H
10. Lynchburg
11. EMU

Great input. All 3 pick RMC! Thanks to you multidimensional posters who took time from the football season to respond. Some of us are only unidimensional  ;D

Thanks JDUB!  As was posted earlier on this board, it'll be interesting to see what Randolph-Macon does with a full cupboard this year.  8)

As for the "unidimensional" remark, I'm sure Billy Greer would disagree with ya!! ;D

6-5FAN

Some very good preseason pics I think.....However, I am concerned with the placement of one team in particular.....Many of you have placed EMU very low in the ranks, I am thinking that they are a team you better not sleep on this year!  I have heard that they have a lot of potential to finish somewhere in the top 3!

tigerfanalso

EMU in the top three ?????? I'm old enough to know better than to say "never" but if EMU finishes in the top three the ODAC than either EMU has tremendously improved from last year or the ODAC is really going to be a weak conference compared to recent history.  Ii will be interesting to see how it plays out but I don't think EMU will finish that high. I know RMC and VWC will be good; HSC & Guilford will be better than OK so that is four teams I think shouldl finish ahead of EMU. Nothing is a given and they play the games for a reason; we'll see what happens.

jdubyadubya

6-5 FAN - if EMU finishes in the top 3, I'll buy you a case of moon pies and a case of RC Cola! ;D

6-5FAN

OK......Im goin to hold you to it though... :)

6-5Fan is apparently a Orie Pancione relative (or Orie himself) - check out his email address on his profile and then look at Orie's height: 6'5". That explains why he/she picked them third.
