HELLO -- I'm Still Here!

The Roomie may not be living in ODAC country anymore, though he's still close.  And he's excited about the Generals...and who wouldn't be, after their best season in umpteen million years.

For a Roomie update, he works at Georgetown now, and will be working the scorer's table for some Hoyas games at Verizon this year.

But to focus on the topic at hand, lets not forget the experienced troika of Jones, Goodman, and McHugh that the Gennies are offering this year.  Greg is gone, yes.  And Femi -- another proud West Virginian -- has also made his way into the world.  But the Gennies have now tasted some success, and I'm confident that they will taste more this year.

Lets Go Generals!

Looks like a good start for Kirby Dean's team.  I have been away from the board.  Does it seem EMU is about right at 8th in the preseason poll?

Unusual goings on in Lexington this weekend. It wasn't a tournament. Roanoke and W&L played Muskingum and Ferrum  - everyone went home 1-1. It was a much better start than my Gennies had last year. so we'll focus on that  and look forward tot he game against Catholic.

Hey, baselinejam.  Good to see you online.  There are several names for this sort of format, but generally (pun intended) when it's called a "classic" (as W&L did here) the two most local teams will play each of the visitors and, of course, everyone can go 1-1.  If it's labeled a "tournament", then the first-day winners play each other the next round as do the first round losers.  Naturally, in a tournament, it's guaranteed that one team will go 2-0, two teams will be 1-1 and one team will finish 0-2.  Most of the time, when a "classic" features two teams from the same conference (such as RC and W&L from the ODAC), the organizers make sure they don't meet, partly because they're going to play each other twice in the regular-season anyway and partly to create a better fan draw for all four games.  Just a scheduling nuance I learned from my brother, who has a son playing college hoops.  I'm looking forward to the season and good luck to your Generals!

Randolph-Macon loses to the Richmond Spiders on Saturday night.  I wasn't expecting a victory like the one VMI enjoyed over dem 'Cats, but would like to hear some poster's thoughts if they saw the game. 8)

This past Saturday was not a good day to be a Tiger fan .... F'ball loses after having a game winning TD called off with a minute left and the b'ball team loses on a shot w/ 5 seconds remaining.

All is not lost. My biggest complaint with HSC b'ball over the last several years is that our opponents had too many open looks and we got very few.
That has come to an end, officially. HSC is playing defense and playing it very hard. I can't remember an open look given up all game long. HSC might not win the ODAC but they will play defense under Coach Vick or they will not play, that was very apparent Saturday night.

Good luck Tigers and keep playing defense !!!!!

Yeah I knew that , but was too lazy to go with the thorough explanation ;)

Hey, I'm with you!  If there's ever a tournament for lazy, I think I'd be one of the top seeds!  :)

ODACHOOPS

The Tigers played great D on sat... well that is good to know.  Holding a team to what 50ish pts means one of two things: either you were playing this "sufficating D" that tigerfan is mentioning or the other team just couldnt hit the water falling out of a boat.  For the tigers sake and for my own satisfaction I am going to go with the first one.  But last time I checked they didnt hand out prizes to teams that "played great D" but werent the last team standing.  The Tigers will have to find scoring from numerous people other then just King if they wish to use that "dominating D" to there advantage.  No one cares if teams get open looks or not, all they care about our the W's and L's.

Jacketlawyer,

I was at the UR-RMC game for the first half and about 10 minutes of the second half.  This was one time this VWC alum was pulling for RMC!  The game was basically decided by the athleticism and size of the Spiders.  They just really didn't have the horses to compete with UR.  That being said, I think RMC didn't help matters.  There were a lot of forced shots, careless turnovers, and other types of things that you just can't afford playing a D-1 team.

I know that's not an in-depth analysis, but the way I saw it, it just seemed like the Jackets were overmatched in terms of size and athleticism.

Thanks 44!  I kinda got that feeling when I read the paper's account of the game.  Things don't get too much easier as we play in a tournament at the College of Wooster this weekend (about 50 miles away from where the football team goes to play Mount Union).  Hopefully Rhoades will have the forced shots and turnovers worked out.

But thanks for going and pulling for the Jackets!! ;D

i was there as well and it wasnt pretty.  at mason they just were hitting everything but that wasnt the case at richmond.  they were missing open shots and not rebounding very well.  i think at halftime they only had 3 assists.  no one was really able to keep up other then short who had 16 but even he didnt shoot that great
