Amherst defeats Rhode Island College 78-74  but the game is a lot closer then most people figured it would be. Anchormen were undersized but this game could have went either way. Toomey's 3 pointer, after the Anchormen grabbed the lead with their big comeback, was huge. If he misses that shot and RIC goes down and scores this game's outcome could have been different. Both teams were deserving of a win.

The refs are really disrupting the flow of the game.  They're not really making bad calls, just too many of them.

The Jeffs hang on to win 78-74.

I thought there were some pretty questionable calls in there personally. There was one in particular where the jeffs seemed to have a steal that would result in an easy layup that drew a late reach-in whistle. quick 4 point swing. there were a few other charge calls on the jeffs that seemed like they really should have been blocking fouls. Anyway, I digress.

RIC really did play hard and I admire their defensive intensity. And every time the Jeffs hit a shot that I thought would break their spirit a little, they found a way to come right back. Great game that came right down to the wire.

Can't say enough about Aaron Toomey. He hit some daggers and was money at the line. Meehan also had 20 to reach the 1,000 point milestone.

One more game to Salem! Can't wait for a battle against either Williams or VW tomorrow.

Anyone know what time the game is tomorrow?

Wow! 1 minute and 47 seconds  into the game and Whittington with 6 points. Bigger WOW!! Now has 2 fouls 2 minutes and 4 seconds into the game. Whittington stays in and hits another jumpshot for 8-0 Williams lead. Ephs up 13-2, 5 minutes into the half.

I haven't watched Middlebury this year.  Do they normally ignore the large size advantage they have and intentionally keep from pounding the ball into Sharry and Locke?

Very, very frustrating half for the Ephs.  They were single-teaming Troy, and he got eight quick points, but after his second foul, he had to leave the game and then they just totally fell apart.  Other than one very poor five minute stretch, Williams hasn't played terribly ... VWU is just very good, and after a slow start, shot the ball VERY well, while the Ephs just didn't hit their 3's ... 1-10 for 3 is just not going to cut it against a team this good.

Not really sure how to guard VWU ... they are very quick and can penetrate, and were taking the kind of shots you want a team to take -- deep 2's -- but just kept nailing them, including the big guys.  Williams could be a little tougher on D, but frankly, if VWU keeps shooting this well, not sure if Williams can stop them because they do have a quickness advantage.  It's going to have to come on offense for Williams -- they need to be a bit more patient (maybe drive a bit more, as VWU plays very aggressively on the perimeter), and nail the open threes when they have them.  It's gonna be tough to come back from this, but the Ephs can do it.

I think Williams has an advantage in the post.  Whittington just has to figure out how to score on the bigger defenders - he'll get there.

Midd down 4 at the half, 28-24. Could easily be down 10, 12. The Roch guard is TOUGH...sees the whole floor, can finish. Roch doing a great job on D, too, agressive, nothing easy for Midd, limiting us to 1 shot. In fact, I bet we're being out rebounded, despite our size advantage.

Roch seems to be wearing down Locke...he seems gassed and has two fouls. Sharry keeping us in the game, especially on the boards.

Here we go. Let's hope the team comes out in the second half like we did against Amherst.

Whittington going? - Yes.
Keeping TOs down and Wang under control? - Yes.
Containing VW? - No
Hitting Threes? No

The fact that this is close is lucky, I think.

VWC's pretty undisciplined.  If a team hustles, they can hang.  I think Williams still has a decent handle on this.

Hope so, Hoops Fan. We're blowing opportunities we need to take if we're going to win. Two or three easy lay ups blown in the last few minutes.

Panthers coming back against Rochester and now lead the Yellowjackets 32-30 with 3 minutes gone in the 2nd half.

Ephs keep getting close. Honestly, it kind of seems as though having anyone other than Troy shoot is a mistake. 9-12 from the field, 22 points. Rest of the team 8-32. Yikes. 8:30 or so to play. Ephs within two.

Ephs are starting to pick up the defensive intensity - really hitting those boards well.  Panthers pulling away a bit.  I think they've finally found a groove.
