Also to point out... John Bedford ranked 20th as a sophmore as well, he turned out okay. To bad Davidson didn't take him...

mrmike, Hamilton played a NESCAC schedule until 98-99 I believe - maybe one more year.  They were usually in the top half of the league - I saw them beat Williams once or twice when I was in school in the Nogelo years, but I honestly don't remeber exactly where they finished in the standings.  It was before the league tournament, as well.  I think this year, while they are not on the level of an Amherst (and lost to Williams in one of their poorer showings), they are one of the few teams that would have a shot at an upset.  They are athletic and are streaky shooters - both good and bad - so if they caught them on the right night, they could get a victory.

Be easy on the O'Keefe and Colin Tabb comparison.  Those two being mentioned in the same sentence is pure insanity and I question your knowledge of the game.  O'Keefe is a solid player, but he's the 5th best player on the team.  Shepherd, D. Martin, Weitzen and Black are more crucial to the team.  I even like the way Fitzgerald plays, so I think Tufts needs him out there for defense and rebounding at the end of games.  Colin Tabb was hands down the POY in the conference his senior year.  An NABC 1st Team All American.  The only 1st team O'Keefe is on is the Tufts Jumbo's of 05-06.

LittleJeff,

You said it perfectly, a "Disatrous" Williams game.  I wasn't arguing against you directly, just letting you know there are viewpoints other than the Amherst faithfuls.

Auerbach,

Despite what I just posted, I like O'Keefe as a player.  He's a little tentative, but he is only a sophomore.  Good outside shooter, he buried a few from deep against Trinity as a rookie to pull away in the 2nd half.  I've seen Tufts play twice this year, both times he didn't stand out except for one play where he went by Casnocha to tie the NESCAC finals.  That was a big time play.  I think he's capable of being a good player, but he's not anywhere close to Colin Tabb.  No perimeter player in the NESCAC is right now.

Tabb was the toughest player I've seen play at many levels of the game.  He averaged just under 8 boards a game as a senior and he's only 6'4" and played the 2.  He could take over a game in a heartbeat and was one of the most clutch players in the league (ask Amherst and Wesleyan about the games his senior year).  He was downright filthy from the FT line, at one point in the season he made 65 straight from the stripe.  Great player, great leader, great teammate.

ever write a great post only to discover you're not logged in and then it gets lost?

I like O'Keefe...he's on my All-Unsung team that could beat Amherst.  I'm putting Stone on it too since you s.o.b's don't show him enough respect.

All-Unsung Team That Could Beat Amherst
C-Stone
F-R. Martin, Trinity
F-Coulibaly
G-O'Keefe
G-Ashe (haven'e heard a plug for him in ages!)

Ashe is too strong for Olsen
O'Keefe is Bedford's heir apparent
Coulibaly is already the best player in the league...he's get 35 on Casnocha.
R. Martin only missed two shots all year. He's bigger than Wheeler and he shoots the three just as well.
With others around him Stone eats O'Shea and Goldsmith and then abuses K-Hop.

6th Man- Blake Curry

CC,

I like the Russ Martin pick, but no way Ashe gets on over Pat Martin.

What happens if Coulibaly on the non-Amherst team has to match up against Coulibaly on the Amherst team????  Does the world stop spinning?

Good point.

Here's my 10 non Amherst non All NESCAC team to beat Amherst.

C-Charles Stone, I'll take the big fella here
PF-Russ Martin, very smart player who shoots very well from everywhere
SF-Jake Weitzen, still the toughest matchup in the NESCAC
SG-Kino Clarke, best scoring guard not to make All NESCAC
PG-Pat Martin, best point guard not to make All NESCAC

Bench Players:
G-David Shepherd, very tough player with a ton of confidence
F-Mike Hoar, need someone who can play defense down low, matching up against Rhoten everyday for the past 3 years helps a bit
C-Andrew Newton, could be a starter over Stone here, his injury kept him from playing at full strength which was a shame
G-Bryan Wholey, much improved from last year helped Bates a lot this year
G-Jeremy Black, I really like the way he plays

Snubs:
Shalvoy, Hippert, Rudin, B. Fitzgerald, Nelson

is amherst so good that you guys have to pick an all star team to beat them?  this internet is a great thing...wish it was around when i was coaching. i wonder if the any coach reads this stuff. you guys do not suffer fools gladly. after these last few messages i might have to jump on the amherst bandwagon. seems they go a long way based on the teams you guys are posting to beat them. not sure what to think but i'm leaning to the majority. i saw two different amherst  teams. one (against bates) was very solid and athletic. the other (against tufts) needed a good boot in the arse to get going. # 31 for tufts kept them in it..... can he do it again ? can he give a bit more ? if he does and o'keefe plays as advertised amherst will lose. then again you fellas have been involved all season so i'm ready to cave and join all of you and annoint amherst king

It's not as popular in the NorthEast as it is in the Midwest, but a majority of d3 players and coaches read, occasionally some will post.  A lot of schools have policy about basketball personnel being on here.  It's gotten to be quite the d3 central since its inception.

I'm not playing or coaching and I worry about my own mental health and alleigences on this site. How do you spell alleigences? Anyway, no coach should be wasting his time with us...but, Hixon, if you're reading this, C-o-u-l-i-b-a-l-y.

Auerbach-Amherst could finish in the top half of the Ivy League this year. They would wipe their arse with Princeton, but they would never admit that because their actually scared about losing to Hamilton in the second round.

A bye and home-court throughout? Anything less than FINAL FOUR is a BUST.

Bant-I like R. Martin, Kino and P. Martin...we're boys again.
btw-Stone abused Newton in the Berkshires...Rose at the buzzer to win...what a game...what a tough loss for the upsart camels.

I think you'd be surprised at how Amherst would perform against the Ivies. Ivies I know something about and my opinion is you are selling Amherst short. They match up well with most of the teams. Penn would be difficult but on a given night they could give them a run. The Williams team from a few years back could  have played an ivy schedule and finished well into the top half. I saw that team play . great shooting and team defense, they all knew each other very well on the court . most of the better players in the nescac were overlooked by the ivy league. tufts could hang with the mid to lower ivy teams as well although i'd like to see a better small forward on that team

sorry cc  i'm repeating what you said......i'm getting old
