New Big Man Recruit for Amherst, From article very bright individual (always nice to see) who sounds like a developing player. He grew from 6 foot as a sophmore in to 6 8 senior year, might still be growing. Once he stops growing his body can fill out.  Some nice you tube highlights on line as well- solid basketball fundamentals from shooting to rebounding to shot blocking, moves well for a big guy

Tonight will be a pivotal game for the Cardinals against the perennially tough Little 3 foe.  I am looking forward to being there.

In my opinion, this is what motivated Joe Reilly to come home to CT and take over a challenged program.   I think he envisioned building a program that really could compete with Amherst and Williams.   That day has arrived.   Even with students on break - there was a good and loud crowd at the Midd game.  A developing fan base is also a measure of program success.

With their only losses coming to Top 15 teams, this will be an exciting year to be a (new) Cardinal fan.

Glad to hear that theres other Wes fans out there in cyberspace.  While its only a point spread that fact that Walzy is favoring Wes in this upcoming game is an indication of what the Cardinals are capable of.

I'm envious of the Wes. fans that will be at the game......since it will only have live stats coverage online.  Next step in the upgrade of the Cardinals' BB program is to have FREE webcast of the games in the "new" gym.
Jayhawk...thanks for the info on the Amherst recruit.  Your description of him reminds me of a player from Pioneer HS in Ann Arbor MI. that was a star on the 2007 and 2008 Final Four teams..Fletcher Walters...the 2007 team won Amherst's first Nat. Championship and the 2008 team was runner-up.  He was a 6'4" guard in HS and started to grow.  He was listed at 6'7" in 2007 and at 6'8"in 2008.  He retained much of his ball handling skills in college.  Fletcher's parents were at the Hamilton game and at the Alumni game where they watched their son play on the Amherst court again.
I gave a "shout out" to Delbarton School in my last post....in part to the parents of Matt Goldsmith that were also at the game.  Their son Matt was also part of the '07 and '08 teams and attended Delbarton.  Tim McLaughlun '07. the starting guard of the championship team was another player from that HS.  That school produced a fine freshman player now on the Midd. team.
Oh yes, Pioneer HS is the school that also produced Nate Roberson of Williams....a player that is critical to the success of Williams....accordingly to the Williams posters.  I saw him live and Nate is the real deal.

Mr. Ypsi

Pioneer HS has also produced AAs in D1 (one of whom just walked across the street to U of M) - they are both academically AND athletically elite.

Wes down 1 at the half.  Barrise is anchoring the Amherst offense going 5 for 5 from deep while Callaghan paces the Cardinals with 13

Middlebury cruising over Castleton State 49-34 at the half. Sharry with 13 pts and 8 reb. Kizel with 11.

Wesleyan by one.  Both teams hit FTs to go ahead in the last seven seconds.

Huge win for the Wesleyan Red Birds over #4 Amherst.  This win really came down to great free throw shooting from the Cardinals (20-24 overall) lead by Brown going 11-12 from the stripe, including two in the closing seconds that won the game, and Mike Callaghan playing one of the best games of his career scoring a game high 24 points including a big time 3 in crunch time.

On the Amherst front Barrise does have to get his due for having a great shooting night.  His 7 threes were the only thing keeping the Jeffs in the game.

But back to the Cardinals who with their second top 25 team knockout in less than a week, and a record of 13 and 4 are getting hot at precisely the right time heading into the meat of league play.  While Middlebury clearly has the #1 spot until proven otherwise, with the upheaval throughout the CAC, I think Wesleyan can confidently claim the second spot.

Big win for Wesleyan...they are hot and hopefully this wakes Amherst up.

I agree with your thoughts on Wes and Midd, except tonight's game wasn't a league game so Amherst would need to lose again (and possibly lose a tiebreaker) for Wesleyan to take the 2 seed. It's possible given that Tufts is playing good ball in 2012, but I still think that since Amherst hasn't played Middlebury yet, that the fast track to the second seed is in Amherst's hands.

Walzy....your initial look had Wes. by 1 if I recall.  Tough lost for Amherst on the road.  It is interesting that Wes. was up by l over Midd. at the half and Midd came back to win by 2.  How do I know.....because I saw the live stats of the game on the Wes. feed.  Every time I tried to get the live stats feed....from D3hoops and/or Amherst website, I got the game results from last Friday.  Went to the Wes. site and could not get it.  Fustration to the power of 3.  Good game by Wes. it seems.....bad broadcast by somebody.
Went to the recap provided by Wes. on the D3hoops site.  Seems that Shasa Brown got his payback game with 19 points, many asists and the key free throws.  Toomey tried a heave from mid court to no avail.  Another fine game by Workman as he is credited with 11 rebounds, tops for the game and the same total as in the first game.   It seems that one simplistic way of looking at the lost is that Wes. won it on the foul line.  Amherst had fewer foul attempts than Wes. and shot a lower percentage to boot.  Cannot win tight games by shooting around 60% from the foul line, especially when your opponent shoots over 70% and gets more attempts.  Would like to see the boxscore to see the TO's and the rebounds to see where improvements can be made.
