Also Hanley, Bowdoin.

Maker has his team practice dominant hand layups from both sides and the middle just about every practice. It is a big point of emphasis with him.

I'm very pleased to report that Kevin Snyder is headed to Brown as an assistant coach. Kevin was a very good player for Williams, and then a fine assistant as well. Good luck to Kevin.

Belated congratulations to Kevin Snyder!  The Williams coaching pipeline continues, which is too bad for Williams, but a great testament to Coach Maker's reputation and ability to groom assistants for higher-level opportunities.  I'm sure that, even late in the process, he will find a talented young replacement for Kevin.

Not sure if this was previously posted, but here is a interesting interview with Amherst recruit Connor Green, in which he talks about his recruiting process at Amherst, his prognosis for the team, and his possible role on the team:

The only real question for Amherst next year is at the two guard spot, and there will be a lot of options at that spot for Amherst with Green, Tom Killian, last year's top recruit Ray Barry who is coming back from injury, and David Kalema all in contention for Taylor Barrise's minutes.

Congrats to Snyder. #42 if I remember correctly...

I'll jump in on the coaching tree applause since it is July and appears to be the thing to do. Congratulations to John Halas who just landed the Special Assistant to the GM of the Orlando Magic position. https://www.amherst.edu/athletics/teams/winter/basketball-m/articles/2011-12/0724_halas

That puts recent assistant coaches of Luke Flockerzi, Jamie Snyder-Fair, Koby Altman, Mark Gilbride, Mike Rejniak, and now FormerBant in some pretty big positions.

Great news for the conference!.....and the sports/BB followers.  Hope the others in the conference follows suit shortly.

Middlebury to offer free web casting.

God Bless Middlebury College, now we need the boys in Williamstown to follow suit ;)

nescac1

They already did, Williams started free webcasting (at least for many events) last year.

Bates Bowdoin and Colby webcasts have always been free----I think Middlebury was among the few who were actually charging for them in BBall and Football.

Old Guy

Midd is indeed late to this game, but their webcasts have been first rate: local coaches doing the commentary. Some webcasts have not been worth watching, both for the poor quality of the video-feed and for the inanity of the commentary (cf. Colby-Bowdoin last year - century old rivalry and the Bowdoin team was called the "Black Bears" all night). I'm glad the Panthers webcasts are free this year.

Old Guy.....so true about quality vs. quantity and so forth. Hope the Summer has treated you well.  Saw the article on the Midd. baseball player now working for the local Baltimore MLB team/system.  One of your students?
Still think Williams will charge for their webcasts.  They went free during the tournament, I believe.  Amherst student announcers varied in quality.  Do not believe they cover football games.

The financial conditions for broadcasting NCAA tournament games basically preclude schools from having pay-per-view.  When I tried to watch the Amherst-Williams game at Chandler last season, there was still a pay wall.

nescac1

Subsequent to the Chandler game, and prior to the tournament, Williams changed to free webcasts for all games (not just tournament games) last year.  I assume (and hope) that is going to be the policy going forward.

Dave 'd-mac' McHugh

Yeah... I had trouble with Williams games last year, even late in the season, being a pay-per-view format. While I realize they may have changed the format, I don't know when or if it was consistent because I ran into PPV often.

And yes... if you make the NCAA tournament... you are not allowed to make your games PPV if you are broadcasting them.
