Hold on, let's not get ahead of ourselves. The Ephs need to take care of business against Hamilton on Sunday first.  We'll see which team shows up, the one that struggled tonight or the one that took the LJs to the final buzzer.  Hopefully Midd wore them out a bit tonight.

Is there going to be a line on Williams at Hamilton?

Picks:  Wesleyan and the under, Bowdoin and the over, Tufts and the over, Amherst and the under.  Notwithstanding Colby's nice performance vs. Trinity, I don't see a frosh-dominated team hanging with Amherst on the back end of a night-day road double-header.

And I'll add Williams and the over.

As I recall, in recent years Williams has underperformed considerably much more often than not against Hamilton when at Hamilton. There must be something about the trip or the gym or both. Sunday I take Hamilton and, of course, the eleven points.

Corrections, clarifications to avoid the ire of Coach Hixon and some observations of interest.....on last night's Amherst game.
Matt Mathias' shooting...4-5 from beyond the arc and 9-11 for the game.
Walzy.....forgot you was also at the Stevenson vs. Amherst game.
Conner Green and Willy Workman's foul shot misses were their only foul shot misses of the game.
Willy had a great all around game with 6 assists, 5 rebounds, two blocks and 10 points.
Amherst had 5 blocks for the game with "Big Pete" also getting 2 blocks.....yet the two tall Bowdoin centers had only 1 together.  It must be in the "genes" or something......Amherst's WBB center Meg Robertson had 7 last night by herself!
Talking about rebounds...Toomey had 5 rebounds and Hurley of Bowdoins had 4 boards.  Interesting that the 5'10" PG of Bowdoin gets more rebounds than the 7 footer and the 6'10" centers.   Add desire to a player's traits.
During the MBB game, when Bowdoin scored, there were clapping in the front row of the Amherst adult side of the "student" side.  Must be the local area Bowdoin supporters (FY parents of the WBB players, etc.) that lost their way.
Gym was somewhat quiet...6 PM start...dinner time for students....number of teams in action, classes not in session as it is interim period when parents paid for their kids not to go to formal classes, etc.....I know, it hurts in the pocketbook....did it for over 10 years.
Enough...awaiting the games!...no more post today......have to improve my listening and lack of culture/knowledge in Chopin.  Wife taking me to a concert tonight.  She thinks I watch to many games.

Nice

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Aaron Toomey had the best individual game in the league today:

34 points, 13-16 (6-8 3pt), 2-2 ft, 6 ast, 5 reb, 2 blk, 2 stl, 1 turnover in 34 minutes.

Amherst 98 Colby 75

Maine-Man

After starting the season 8-2 Bowdoin currently sit at 9-5 overall and 2-3 in the NESCAC following a disappointing 69-67 loss to Trinity today. With Williams, Middlebury and Wesleyan coming up on their schedule the Polar Bears will be fighting for their lives to capture one of the bottom playoff spots.  :-[

Hate to admit it, but playing lower-tier non-conference foes didn't get the team ready for the night in/night out competition in the NESCAC!

Maine man - I agree.  The P Bear's loss to Trinity was very dissappointing.  I didn't see the game against Amherst but from what I read it sounded as if Bowdoin made some good runs and kept the game in range.  Not a bad performance for playing a top team on the road. But, the loss to Trinity really puts them in a difficult spot.  Hopefully they'll be able to pull an upset or two in the coming weeks.

I'm back! :)    Nothing much to add that is not on the Amherst website and posted by Walzy.
Both Amherst and Colby Coaches "emptied the bench" for the last 5 minutes or so....box states 4 minutes.  For Amherst, it was 13 players and if the box is correct, it was 16 for Colby.  Guess the Colby coach doesn't fully understand that the traveling squad limit is 15.
In this case the number of players didn't impact the game.....still rules are rules.
Talking about rules, the Amherst announcers were confused about a foul call late in the game when a number of reserves were in the game.  My take...in a fight for a rebound, the Amherst player...Levine?..caught a Colby player above the neckline with an elbow.  That is an automatic "flagrant foul", I believe.  The announcer thought it was a touchy contact foul and not an technical foul.  Some confusing since the foul on Amherst followed soon after a double technical foul called on R. Barry of Amherst under the Amherst basket.  There was two meetings of the refs on the call and Colby got to shoot 4 foul shots.....no clear explanation given on the matter.  R. Barry was sat down for awhile.  Interesting last five minutes of the game....."garbage time" so to speak with apparent rough play all around.
Heard on a ESPN pre-game show for the big game in Indiana....talking heads discussing the issue of the college game getting rough and more physical and the refs need to call it tighter.   To date, I  believe Conn., Wes. and now Colby are playing a physical style this year....all have a number of young players on the teams.   Any comments?
The "slight" FY center for Amherst... James Sanderson seems to be a favorite of the team.  When his first points went in, the Amherst bench stood up and cheered.  In his four minutes on the floor, Sanderson scored 4 points and had 5 rebounds!  Amherst's other FY center had 8 points against Colby.  The 5 position for Amherst is looking solid.
