OT unbelievable, Olson makes a miracle 3 to tie it at the buzzer

Jumbos35

What does everyone think about fouling before the shot up by 3???  Tough call to make, but I'm sure Sheldon talked about it...

fisheralum03

I would have done it

Watched game on Jumbocast.  AmHerst came thisclose to losing at home again in the round of 16.

Olsen's shot was unbelievable.  Tufts actually played very good defense...Olsen just tossed it up one handed and it went in...unbelievable.

AmHerst better bring a lunch pail and start rebounding tomorrow night or SJF is going to Salem.

UCONN didn't foul up three the other night either.  In my book its always a good option if you're under 5 seconds to go.

Amherst is the most clutch team I have ever seen in my coaching, playing, or spectating days. Olsen's 3 at the buzzer was the most amazing shot I have seen in d3 hoops. Brought back memories of John Casnocha's ridiculous 3 as shot clock wound down against tufts in the nescac final.

Saw st johns fisher play tonight. they do not have one player that can guard bedford. he will shoot the lights out tomorrow, and amherst will roll again. it doesnt matter if they rebound or not, with players like olsen bedford casnocha corrigan and zalaski, the jeffs' offense cant be stopped.

by the way, lefrak was rockin' tonight. amhersts crowd will dominate the few fisher faithful tomorrow, and you can expect to see another stormed court.

Unbelievable game. Olson miracle shot with 1.7 secs left in regulation tie was unreal.

MVP of game was Brian Kumf until the last shot. Kumf finished with 21 and 9 (7 offensive).
MVP of game has to be Andrew Olson for his three and great passes throughout the game.
Bedford got his numbers again on his usual strong performance. Dan O'Shea was the biggest standout performance for Amherst. Best game of his season in my mind. Put up huge points mostly at big times.

Galant, Weitzen and OKeefe hit threes for tufts that were big. Missed free throws down the stretch and in OT for Tufts was their achillies heel (sorry RC). Dave Shepherd...THANK YOU for finally missing one.
Goldsmith big three point play. Martin 11 and 10 but quietly. FIRED UP

Amherst wins by 5 (Weitzen hit a three at the buzzer that I didn't even see). St. John Fisher tomorrow...bring it.

Wow.

First off, congrats to Tufts for a great season and an even better game tonight.  They really ought to have won this one, the way they played...

Some Amherst fans have been down on Olson lately, saying he hasn't been as assertive and that he won't take the big shot.  Oops, I guess you guys were wrong.  That has to be the most ridiculous buzzer-beater I have ever seen in person.  99 times out of 100 that misses.

What Amherst did right tonight in my opinion: post play (O'Shea and Wheeler mostly), attack the hoop on the dribble, challenge every shot on defense.

What Amherst needs to improve: REBOUNDING.  Come on, the Jumbos had a second chance almost every possession it seemed.  Martin, Kumf, Fitzgerald, Weitzen, O'Keefe - all of them had put-backs and tip-ins.  That's why Tufts was winning to begin with.  The defense was fine, but the rebounding killed the Jeffs.

Tomorrow, 7PM, LeFrak: Amherst-St. John Fisher for a trip to Salem.  I love college basketball.

P.S. Kudos to everyone who came out to sold-out LeFrak tonight.  The place was loud, hot, and a lot of fun.  Coach Hixon said after the game that he hasn't seen the gym like that since 1994.

Hunt was one of the best shooters in the country. As far as Sheehy praising his player, what did you expect? Frew was a FAR!!!!!!!!! better player than h
Hunt and that was just on Williams. As we have seen certain players attract votes and others don't. Hunt over Frew is as STUPID as Sam Clark over Tabb-Strahorn and Jones. (And of course Schiel over Rhoten and Bedford., actually mabe stupider)

Amherst stormed the court tonight after beating a team that was an underdog and a team they'd already beaten twice this year? God, act like you've been there before. I don't care the circumstances of how it ended.

Second, Nick Bennett will guard Bedford and do a nice job on him. I guarantee it. Fisher and Utica both let that game get a lot more wide open than it should have. I think tomorrow's game will be a lot tighter and much lower scoring.

By the way, Tufts would have come in 3rd in the E8 this year. My unbiased opinion, anyways. Amherst better play a lot better tomorrow or Fisher is going to Salem.

bennett cant guard bedford. bennett  is just too big and slow. nobody can stop bedford. you may not notice how many pts he has, but he will drop 25 on you no problem. and yes, amherst stormed the court in one of the most exciting basketball games of the year, d3 or d1. sorry their fans are into the game. i cant wait til they own fisher tomorrow.

Amherst -6.5 Vs. St John Fisher

Mike McGee and Nick Bennett won't have 10,000 open looks from deep tomorrow. Also, we won't have #15 on Utica taking Kobe shots from 20 ft while holding the release of his shot like his brick was good. Gonna be fun. Kinda feel bad for Tufts but so happy that I don't even care. I want to have a fun first weekend of spring break in Salem, VA. Russell Lee will be there. Will you?

i might unbiasedly disagree with the statement that tufts would finish 3rd.  i think they are better than both teams i saw tonight.  fisher has an incredible point guard, and some guys that do some things well, but i dont think they could keep up with tufts offensively.  they have 1 shooter, and a decent big man, other than the point guard.  and utica is not a talented team.  the attack the rim, but usually score on the break or following up misses on the offensive glass.  i think going zone against utica would shut them down since they have no real shooters.  the nescac is full of teams that have big men and at least 3 guards than can shoot.  not many teams i have seen outside of the nescac really have great shooters.   tufts should have won at least 1 out of the 3 they played against amherst if not 2, but ill give amherst 1 of those lucky shots.  if you think a team that is 23-6 with a top 10 strength of schedual would finish 3rd in the e8, i would have to disagree.

secondly, amazing game tufts amherst pt 3.  i had to doubt walzy with his line tonight, and i was right this time.  tufts came out playing ball.  they outrebounded amherst by at least 15, but i guess a few missed free throws and with luck on amhersts side, it wasnt enough to overcome the lord jeffs.  amazing atmosphere also, when olson hit the 3 people were covering their ears becuase the yelling was so piercing.  great fan support from tufts, and by far the biggest fan support from amherst this year, but i guess when you host the sweet 16 against a conference rival, the stands would be full.  great year in the nescac and hopefully amherst can make the conference look as good as it is.
