Williams has had some favorable draws in the past.  Not this year.  Ephs get absolutely jobbed, placed in the group of depth.  In their quarter of the bracket: St. Thomas, Virginia Wesleyan, Wisconsin Stevens-Point, Wheaton, Catholic.  Absolutely brutal.  The Ephs will have to do it the hard way ...

Amherst will coast to the Elite 8.  Very, very easy draw.  But, the Jeffs will likely have to play a VERY good team in the Elite 8.  The bottom half of the Amherst quarter is really tough.

Williams also gets a  REALLY tough first round opponent.  Wesley had a lot of close losses to very good teams, and has quality wins over Cabrini and Va Wesleyan.  Williams really could not have been handed a worse draw.  Uggghh.

Midd got a much easier draw than Williams.  I guess the Ephs should have lost that game because they'd be much better off playing in that bracket.  But hey, you've gotta beat the teams they put in your path.  Sweet 16 might feature that DiBartolomeo-Thompson match-up if both teams make it that far.

Middlebury appears to have gotten a fair draw.  Rochester is a good match up if both teams get there.

As for the question of a Midd team poy....... can't really say.  I can make the point for 3 guys, and I don't want to type for 5 minutes.

I think that underestimates WPI.

WPI has fallen apart a bit towards the end of the season ... not exactly entering the NCAA's on a high note despite eeking out the NEWMAC tourney.  I am very confident that Amherst makes the Elite 8.  Once there, they will likely face Hampden Sydney, Wooster, Ohio Wesleyan, Cabrini, all of whom would provide really tough competition.

Williams has by far the toughest draw, maybe in the entire tourney -- Wesley has shown they can play with and beat elite teams, Catholic (likely second round opponent) is a top-15 team, Virginia Wesleyan, possible Sweet 16 opponent, has as much talent as any team in the country, and then it would be St. Thomas or Stevens-Point.  Brutal.

N1 is right - we did struggle to beat the 2 teams this weekend that already beat Amherst this year  ;D

Missed the broadcast!   See that Amherst gets a bye.  Gives the team more time to grow beards!   Really the bye should allow the WBB team to host their pod the first week....assuming they get a favorable draw.
On a brighter side...if all the "CAC" teams play to their potential.......and have some luck......there will be three teams in the elite 8...in Salem.  Must save my pennies for the Burgers and Beer Bash.
Amherst could meet the Panthers of VT in the semi-finals.  Winner will meet Williams in Georgia.
Madz....you could get your wish and have Williams meet Amherst for all the marbles....a 4th meeting and IMHO another loss.  Walzy would like that.
Me too!
Getting way ahead of myself.  Old Guy, think positive.  Another lost to Amherst should help the Baseball team..... :)

That was a LONG time ago, WPI.  Williams absolutely dominated Springfield.  Williams is not as good as Amherst.  Time will tell.   Midd-Curry should be fun.  Very, very different teams.  Curry can score on anyone but has serious trouble defending.  Curry's top player is very, very good.  Thompson will have his hands full.

Congrats to Amherst, Williams and Midd for making the tournament!  Best of luck going forward.

It looks like the National Championship game will be played in Atlanta which is where I live.  Does anyone know specifically where the game will be played?

Amherst bye also means Workman gets more time to recover from flu-like symptoms that bogged him down all weekend.  Not sure I agree with this cakewalk into the Elite Eight business though if there's a Sweet Sixteen matchup vs. WPI.  All of that is 3 weeks away though at this point.  As for Williams, while there may be a number of good teams in their corner of the bracket, Williams won't have to play them all (and in fact, many, esp. in the top half of that bracket, will have much harder draws than Williams), so calm down, P-Cows.

In the meantime, if I'm Bruce Bowen or Shane Battier and I have a time machine, I'm hiring Panthernation as my agent, though I wouldn't negotiate too high a percentage of my salary based on whether either of those guys ever gets a single vote for League MVP
#3 for 3...good!

Nescac1......look on the bright side.  There could be a matchup of Williams and Catholic U in D.C.  Can take a metro ride and a good walk to the campus in N.E and see the Ephs play live!  If it comes to that....may even join you.....will have a longer subway ride though.

Bucket....thanks for the responses to my questions.  George Leftwich....was the man/player at John Carroll Catholic HS.  Saw him play in HS.  He was paired up with Wally Jones at the big "V" in Philly.....many thought they would be the best backcourt in the country....before the accident.   Glad you stated point guard as Leftwitch's position.  Would argue that Dave Bing out of a public hs in D.C. was the best guard ever.  Elgin Baylor the best forward and player ever out of the city.  Bing and Baylor out of the same H.S.
Met George Leftwich at Sidwell just before he left.  Introduced by my oldest son who was working at S. Friends at the time.  Small world.
If we should ever meet, will have a question of you with respect to Gore the 3rd being at Friends versus St. Albans.  Have a classmate that like the Gores had daughters go to the school next door and sent a son to Friends....at about the same time when you were there.
