It is only Wednesday and with few games to watch this weekend.....will watch some WBB games.  Can't decide to watch the game in upper NY State to see what Amherst's next opponent "looks like"....or watch the WPI game and see if there will be two seven footers out on the floor....trying to intimidate each other....should bring a smile to my face if it comes about.    Thanks all for the info on the 7'3" down under chap at WPI.  Maybe one of Amherst present or future players will become the second 7 footer in the conference.
Choices....choices...maybe will turn to the Midd-Curry game and see how the announcers do with the Curry guard's name.
Once again.....Williams need to watch out for the ROY and all conference guard...the 6'3" FY player.   Love to see Nate Robertson match up with him....though not too thrilled about Williams student announcers....oh oh.....going to get some grief here......ok, will be open minded and can always turn the sound out.  Did not watch many Williams games on-line being that it cost to much to watch before....but wasn't there an older announcer before...one with a deeper voice?
Going to be a bunch of posts on Thursday when the the All-Conference choices comes out.

LeFrakenstein.....IMO, you will not get an answer to your question any time soon.  Amherst never reveals injury/illness reports before season games.  Second, the roster has 16 players present...one more than allowed for any NCAA traveling squad.  My guess is that R. Berry may have another injury....in an injury-prone playing career going back to prep school days.  I believe, he only played half a season in his last prep school year....and still made all-conf. in his prep league.   Hope I'm wrong and that he is doing ok at Amherst otherwise.

If Thompson is on Jones, I like the under on that Walzy spread ... I'd think somewhere around 15-18.

WPI89

Could get interesting if there is significant "garbage time" but I say under as well.

amh63,

If you get a chance I would watch the video broadcast of the Plattsburgh State-Husson game that will come on at 7:00 PM or slightly earlier on Saturday night. It's a very good quality video broadcast with good announcers (professionals, not students) and even has instant replay. Plus it's free.  Always nice to see the opponent that your team will be playing in the next round. Would be willing to bet it will be the best picture that you'll pull in of all the possibilities that night. Just a suggestion.

Here's an over-under request for Walzy.  Assuming Thompson guards Jones, under-over on number of points Jones puts up vs. the Panthers?

Points Sedale Jones scores against Middlebury in 1st Round of 2013 NCAA Tournament
Over/Under: 20.5

I'll take the over - he's a legit scorer; if it's a blowout, I'll take the "way over."  If they're down 20 or 25, he could jack up 35 shots.

I like the over, but I could care less if he scores 100 as long as Midd wins.

middhoops

Sedale Jones played against Amherst, Williams, WPI and MIT early in the season.  He scored 41, 34, 22 and 10.  MIT was the statistical anomaly.  Jones on took 10 shots in 34 minutes.  While he had 34 free throws in the other games, he only took 4 against MIT.
Jones averaged almost 8 free throws a game for the season and had 95 turnovers in 28 games.  He takes the ball to the rack.  A bunch.
In his 41 point explosion against Amherst, his team lost by 21 and he had 4 of Curry's 17 turnovers.
Walzy's o/u looks about right.  Hoops Fan's assessment looks right, too.
However, I'll take the under because if he gets frustrated, it doesn't matter how many shots you take if they ain't fallin', and Middlebury will be in his face every moment.
I'd guess that he'll get around half of his point from the free throw line.  (that could be a lot.)
Sedale Jones is a dominant player, a superior offensive talent to any Panther.  That's why he played D1 ball at UMass before transferring.
Curry's style is prone to turnovers and his supporting cast is unlikely to stay with Middlebury for 40 minutes.

pick and roll

Be careful with the conclusion because he was D1 at UMass he is a superior talent - might be true in his case, but if he was so good why is he at Curry? There is some D1 talent on all there these NESCAC teams still playing.

WPI89

The only time I have seen him was the WPI game - very athletic - could not hit anything against WPI - he had few open looks that did not fall.  His 20 points were all layups/dunks/ and free throws (he had about 10 FT's).

Game was close until the end - he will get his transition points and not rocket science here but if S. Jones hits some long range shots, they will hang with Midd into the 2nd half - if he doesn't, it won't be close.

Curry's coach, Malcolm Wynn came from the Juco ranks and has lots of contacts in the Boston HS scene.  He's usually first in line for guys who would rather get PT than a scholarship.  He's also been successful in getting guys who've had selfish streaks play team ball.

I'm not sure Jones is a d1 talent, but he's got scoring ability above the level of his typical competition.  I really think the key to Curry hanging will be if Jones is willing to be more of a decoy.  The other players on the team can handle a bigger load than they've typically had to shoulder.  If Jones can make his looks count enough that Midd has to keep Thompson on him, they might be able to get some daylight from the other guys.

I've been following the CCC for 12 or 13 seasons now.  This Curry team has more potential than all buy one team we've sent to the tournament.  I don't expect Curry to win, but they have the ability to do it, which is far better than previous CCC champs when compared to NESCAC squads.

I don't think Middlebury is underestimating Curry, which is probably enough to equal a win.  But Curry is not a one player squad.  If they do enough to completely shut down Jones, the rest of the team can pick up the slack.  I'm sure they'll just play it straight up; Jones will get his points, but it won't be enough to win.

Magicman.....Thanks for the heads up....good advice.  The Amherst women's team has a 7PM game at home...against a team that they blew out on the road.  Though both teams are better now.....it should be "over" early.  Can check in on the game while watching your suggested game.  Are you not from upper NY and follow the "hometown" state school?  If so, any low down on the host team....keys to the game advice.
Seems all the bets are down on the game in VT!
Pat C.   .....it is not good to tempt this "betting crowd" on this board....to challenge their minds/habits.  By the way, what is the prize if one wins?  All paid trip to Salem?

Its bragging rights pretty much.  I've been entered for about the last 5 years or so (long before I enrolled at Western Connecticut and started following D-3 basketball), but its fun.  Already entered both men;s and women;s brackets.

I haven't followed the women's game at all in a decade, but for some reason I do better in the women's bracket every year.  Strange.
