Devean George immediately comes to mind, and he was drafted in the first round (if memory serves he grew five inches in college, or something like that).  I can't think of any who were drafted since that time, but there may be others.  Others have definitely, however, signed as free agents.

Although currently a D3 hoops school, I'm not sure if Illinois Wesletyan was D3 when Jack Sikma was drafted 8th overall in 1977 by the Seattle Supersonics.  It wasn't D1, but it may have been NAIA...

In 1989 a 5'7 guard by the name of Greg Grant out of Trenton State now College of NJ.  Was DIII player of the year. http://www.nba.com/suns/news/grant_qa_090806.html

Also, you can add Terry Porter out of UWSP to the list.  He had a nice NBA career.

IWU was a dual member of NAIA and D3 until the mid-80s, when they dropped NAIA affiliation.  In Sikma's era, they always opted for the NAIA tourney.  (Former coach and AD, Jack Horenberger, was IIRC a founder of the NAIA; out of respect they retained NAIA membership until after his death.)

All of the WIAC (then WSUC - once people stated pronouncing acronyms, no wonder they changed the name! ;)) were NAIA in Terry Porter's era.

The 59th pick in last night's draft, Bojan Dubljević, played for Valencia in Spain, meaning that he was teammates with Will Hanley this season.

You compare Krie Irving to Joey Kizel? Really?

Yeah that's one of the two comparisons we made. It should be pretty clear, we say the name of the comparison player right after the Middlebury player, and then talk about why that pick was made (for Kyrie you can even check out a shot chart and video that are discussed in the text). What are your thoughts on that pick, Charles?

No, they're not comparing Irving to Kizel - they're just saying these Middlebury guys remind them of these NBA players - and they're having some fun with it.

Posters, do take a look at this Panther Nation blog. You don't have to actually read it. It's parochial. But, as Joe Castiglione would say, can you believe it? It blows my mind - and I know these guys. A couple of undergrads taking things to this level of analysis and passion? I've never seen anything like it. They're fanatics.

When I first started reading this board, it mostly consisted of Amherst guys telling Williams guys, "you suck," and Williams guys telling Amherst guys, "you suck worse." Then a Trinity guy would say, "you both suck." And that was better than Middlebury guys who were saying "huh? basketball?"

I read this Panther Nation blog and the level of detail cracks me up!

Having some fun indeed.  Charles - time to switch to decaf.

Panthernation......"tour de force"!   Enjoyable and informative.

Old Guy...guess what...the board still has the some of the same Amherst and Williams posters at times :)

As predicted, AJ Mathews not drafted, but will get a chance to be seen.

Best of luck to him!  It would be great for him and for all the talented DIII players who don't get the visibilty they deserve.

Nice piece of work Panthernation.  I don't follow the professional game well enough to agree or disagree with the match ups but your analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of Middlebury's returning veterans is very well done.  There is tremendous potential here.  Add  the incoming class, one and possibly two of whom could impact early in the season, and the outlook is  better still.  It will be interesting to see who takes the floor as starters.  I wouldn't be surprised to see a team like the 2009-10 edition that had seven players all with at least 15 starts.  That team also included returnee Luis Alvarez who played in 28 games averaging almost 9 1/2 minutes as a freshman.  There will be so many ways to mix and match the talent on hand.  It will be a very deep and talented bench regardless of who gets the starting assignments.  Personally I look forward to seeing Kizel, Jensen and Sinnickson on the court together.   The combined athleticism of those three should result in quite a show.
