QuoteStill no feed from Salve Regina.  Any update?

I've got the feed now.  Players are still warming up.

Bert Nascimento, Matt Daley, and Dylan Sinnickson all in uniform. VERY happy to see that.

Bucket

Merryman, Kizel, Jensen, Roberts, and St. Amour the starting 5.

Will be interesting to see if Sinnickson and Daley see action. Per Jeff Brown's philosophy, they will have had to have practiced to play.

Overall a pretty good webcast from Salve Regina....right up until a GEICO web ad came on - during play.  Haven't seen that before (and not a very good ad).

That happens quite a bit with a videocast that is on USTREAM. You would think they would wait until a time out to run their ads but they don't. The worst instance was when I was watching a hoopsvillie broadcast (which was also on USTREAM) and as DMac was interviewing his guests they would cut in with advertisements.

And as I type this the Middlebury game suffers another ad in the middle of play.

Midd holds a 3-pt halftime lead despite very sloppy play from the Panthers (looking like a team coming off a 20 day layoff); double-digit turnovers for Midd in the first half.

Panthers living at the line, and largely converting. It seems that Midd can get to the rim at will, with either a very good look or foul drawn. Would like to see that continue in the second half.

Salve has one very good player—Barrett Hanlon (a Ben Rudin type—who has been all of their offense. If Midd can lock onto him, continue to attack the rim, and limit turnovers, they should come away with a tough road win.

As expected, Daley and Sinnickson have not seen action, though very nice to see them both in uniform, something that bodes well for the Panthers for the heart of the season.

Panthers trail 58-50 with just under 8 minutes to play. They have only scored 3 points in the past 5 minutes. They need to make a charge coming out of this time out or this game could be over.

Salve Regina lead has grown to 12,  65-53 with only 3:02 to go.

Matt Amour 3 pointer following Jensen free throws and a Merryman layup cut the lead to 65-58.

Now 69-63 with 1:23 to play.  Midd fouls.

With every possession critical Midd cannot afford to miss but they do and foul again with 1:00 left.

Salve keeping Midd alive as they have missed at least 5 straight free throws but Midd can't make a fiield goal.

Merryman fouls out and Salve hits both free throws.  71-63 33 seconds left. This game is over.

Final score Salve Regina 76  Middlebury 69

Can't remember the last time Middlebury played this poorly. Certainly the worst I've ever seen them shoot. Was hoping they would win this game and move up in the rankings when the new poll comes out on Monday or Tuesday. Now have to hope they will still be ranked.

Just a nightmare of a second half for Midd, as the Panthers fall to Salve Regina, 76-69.

Midd went 9 minutes in the second half without a bucket—and six minutes without a point. Simply dreadful from long-range: 4-19, 21 percent. Overall percentage almost as woeful: 32 percent on 17-53 shooting. I haven't seen a second-half stat breakdown, but I'm sure the 2nd-half percentage was even lower than that.

51 fouls called; no flow to the game whatsoever, and on this night SR took advantage of that. Midd shot 40 free throws and was solid from the line(about 78 percent), but there were too many deficiencies elsewhere for this to make a difference.

The return of Daley and Sinnickson—and the expected offensive punch and athleticism that they should bring to the court—could not be coming at a better time.

mm, that didn't look like a ranked team tonight.  Having said that, I don't think I'd want to be Plattsburgh on Tuesday.  A game like this can leave a chip on your shoulder.  Real stinker.

That's what I'm afraid of. Really wanted to see a Middlebury win for that reason more than any other.

Williams leading Hampden-Sydney 37-33 at the half. Epley with 12, Wohl with 9 and Robinson with 8.

Wow, rough start to 2014 for the NESCAC powers.  Hopefully the Ephs can fare better.  Spotty webcast from Hampden Sydney.  Ephs were up 12 and in control but unfortunately missed a few bunnies and had a few unfortunate plays (balls bouncing off hands on both ends) and HSC closed to within four at the half.  For Williams, it's been the Epley and Robinson show on offense as they have combined for 20 points, hitting 6-7 threes.  Daniel Wohl has been an absolute terror on defense, accumulating five steals, at least two of which he converted into dunks on the other end.  Mayer continues to struggle and still just can't get into any sort of offensive rhythm.  The Ephs have zero points off the bench, so that continues to be an issue.  HSC is very deep so it would really help if the bench can give the starters some help in the second half.  Robinson picked up two fouls and will need to be careful.

Maker picked up a very early T a few minutes into the game after two Eph ball-handlers were absolutely clobbered with no call.  He will also need to be careful ...

Tie game.  To put it mildly, the refs are not helping Williams so far in this game.  Three straight TO's on Duncan Robinson, two travels and one offensive foul after a pass, all of which I thought were highly questionable and the first of which was ridiculous.  Ephs struggle whenever the starters go out and I think Maker is going to have to play most of his starters most of the rest of this game to pull this one out.

No other way to put it than it was an awful performance by Middlebury on every level, the worst in years.  Rathter than rehashing it or reading too much into it, what's more important is how they react in their next game at home before the opening conference weekend.  The best thing for a player after a stinker like this is to put it behind you as quickly as possible and get at it in practice.  It is time for this group of Seniors to lead.
After a game like this it's hard to see a silver lining, but one should always remember the immortal words of John Belushi as Bluto Blutarsky in Animal House:
"Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?"
Hell no, but it could be a tough times for the Panthers if they don't get their....  "stuff " together quickly.
