If you can lose convincingly to both Stevenson and Salve, you most certainly would not be an overwhelming favorite vs. them, even if I would certainly rate Midd as a more talented team overall.

I recall a 3-pt game with a minute left against Stevenson, a team that is 8-2. Is that a convincing loss? Considering the 2-pt squeaker against 4-6 W&L, I'd be careful about these stones you're tossing around.

Bucket I don't think the loss to Stevenson was a bad loss at all.  My point is simply that Hood, who was dismissed by your fellow Midd fan as something of a joke, nearly beat Stevenson and has a good record.  I respect Midd and the tough schedule they have faced this year.

Based on the posts recently.....everyone must be getting "cabin fever" and a bit grouchy :)  Me....watched a bit of on-line games and went to see The Hobbit movie.  The book is better.
Jayhawk....you seem to be closer to Amherst than me.....are the Amherst teams back on campus yet?
P'Bearfan....How did Bowdoin allow that trip to the islands to practice!  Nice.  Remember in my days...the Rugby team going to Bermuda to play the local police team there.

middhoops

A welcome interjection of obuse thought there, amh63.  Thank you.

P'bearfan

Bowdoin takes a trip like this once every four years.  Probably takes that long to forget about the travel woes from the last trip!

Amh63,

Is there a parking lot/garage near LeFrak?  I am looking at a Birds Eye View of the complex and do not see very much, (except what looks to be a small parking lot), on S Pleasant or Woodside or Hitchcock Rds. I was thinking of walking from the Lord Jeff Inn, but it looks to be a bit cold on Tues night

Folks seem to park in the neighborhoods across the street, a grid of streets that is situated between LeFrak and the outdoor fields. At least that's where I've parked the times I've been there.

ECSU......seems that you posted when I was watching the Warriors playing Plymouth.
Actually to refine Bucket's suggestion a bit......From the LJ Inn. turn right onto Hitchcock Rd.  About 10-15 ft on your left is a driveway down to a parking lot....between the first two white houses/buildings.  It is a small lot that has a dozen spaces....serves the Amherst Development offices.....should be empty at that time of the night.  Alternative spaces....past Hitchcock Rd, turn left into the entrance to the Sports complex.  Forget the small lot to your right after the turn and proceed to look for spaces on the right side of the road facing the buildings.  Just past the Alumni Gym there is a rd. into a parking area.  That area has about a dozen spaces....for coaches and staff to the Admission Office which is the white building just past Alumni Gym.  Now you know where I look first.  Good luck.

Thank Your kind Sir.  +k.  Looking forward to a good showing by the Warriors and staying at he LJ Inn

ECSU vs Plymouth game... I expected more out of the Panthers at home, but Eastern was ahead by 21 at half.  In the 2nd half they got a little sloppy with the ball at times, but Salzillo 3's always kept Plymouth from getting any closer than I think 9.

ESCU......Forgot......you could get to the Gym complex a little early for spaces....before the locals and parents arrive.  Go through the Alumni Gym entrance and look around a bit.  Turn right past the turnstills? and follow the hall around past the Wolfe fitness center...people working out... and turn right into the upper level overlooking Coolidge Cage.  Turn left and go through the doors.  You will be in an area between LeFrak and the Swimming pool with pictures and selected trophies.  You can actually look down onto the LeFrak gym...2nd floor view sort of.  To get to your seats, go down one of two stair cases.  Visitor's seats are behind the ECSU players bench...facing the student seatings across the way.  Actually you can sit anywhere you wish.  Hopefully, someone will be around if you become turned around.  There is an elevator to the lower floor where the game will be held also.
In my day......Coolidge Cage  was where the varsity games were played.  Wesleyan had an identical Cage up to about 6-7 years ago....torn down for the Alumni Complex.  The Cardinals new gym is a ways away.  There is another Cage at UMASS....now where the WBB games are held.....but where Julius Ewing played!

Whenever I go up there, I just park on one of the side streets.

Amh63,

Thanks again for the added details, nothing like having an insider to guide you through an area!!!

Have fun up here next weekend, and safe trip.

My wife and I went to Virginia to watch Williams play all three games. I am a nut Williams fan, and have been away over the Christmas vacation to watch the team over the last 5 or 6 years. I thought I'd write a bit about the trip because there is a perception on this board that games played right after the break should or are of the same quality as games played the rest of the year. They are not. I have yet to go to a tournament before New Year where the play of Williams didn't leave a lot to be desired. The team practices 2-3 times after a 3 week layoff, and then plays games. The first couple of games are, every year, pretty awful. Two years ago, in Kentucky, Williams should have lost. Last year, in California, they nearly lost again. This year, both the Washington College game, and the W&L game were close, and Williams could have lost. None of the teams in the tournament were as good as Williams, but generally, the other teams had shorter breaks than Williams. They did not have as much rust on them. I know this is true of other NESCAC teams as well. Really good NESCAC teams are likely to lose to non-NESCAC teams right at the beginning of the season, or just after the Christmas break. Since many teams practice right through exams, and/or take much shorter Christmas breaks, NESCACs are vulnerable to getting beaten right after Christmas, or very early in the new year (Amherst, Middlebury, etc).

I was reasonably pleased with the way Williams played in their first two games. There was a lot of sloppiness, but certainly not more than I had expected. Washington and Lee had several very good players, and they were gunning for us. They wanted very badly to beat Williams. Williams managed to escape with 2 wins from the W&L tournament, and to scrape a lot of rust off their game. The Hampden-Sydney game was a total treat. The gym at HS is a great place to play, and watch, basketball. It was clear to those Williams fans there that HS values basketball, that it is very important to them. Again, they very badly wanted to beat Williams. As a fan, I really appreciate that. It makes the game a big game. HS has a very good team, with 2 really good players, and 1 super player. Khobi Williamson is a Troy Whittington quality center. Williams spent the evening harassing him with multiple players whenever he got the ball inside. He still managed 17 points on 8-12 shooting, and 10 rebounds. The good news for Williams was that they played better than they had coming out of break, no surprise at all, and that Mike Mayer started to get his game back in the second half of the game. Mayer will be greatly needed in league play, and it appears to me that he will be ready.  Duncan Robinson continues to astonish me with how well he is playing in his first year. I just wish he would shoot more. He is as unselfish a player as I have ever seen. I thought the win at HS was a very high quality win because it was a true away game against a quality team who really cared about the game.
