And it's official -- App it is!!  Great hire in my view.  I think that he and the Ephs have a bright future.

Congrats to William's new HBC!
Some random thoughts on the matter.  He is from Silver Springs, Md., a suburb, urban area near me.  If it was an incorporated city, it would be one of Maryland's largest cities.  Wonder if he is a graduate of Montgomery Blair HS....a top magnet academic school.  Could be since he has a Civil Engineering degree from Cornell.
Based from his bio at West Point,  he was a recruiter assistant for Maker.  However,  his short time at Williams does not indicate he will continue Maker's BB system...if there was one.
His time as a player for the Big Red and as an assistant there would indicate that he may tend towards the system used by the present Boston College coach.  Especially if the present HBC at the USMA used the system.  In any case...the new coach is a winner.  His time as a player and as a coach have been with winning programs.
He is young for a HBC :)....about the age of Coach Hixon when he became Amherst's HBC.
Reading the Williams' news letter, I believe he won the Search team over when he stated that Williams was his dream job! :)....just kidding around a little here.  He appears to be both a recruiter and a teacher of talented student athletes.

I know Kevin App pretty well, and can say without hesitation that he will be a great coach for Williams. I have no doubt that the "modified Princeton offense", also known as the "two guard", or even the "four guard" offense will be played by App. I watched Army play several times this year, and I recognized a lot of Maker influence in their offense. This tells me that App had influenced West Point with some of what he learned from Maker. This selection should be very popular with existing players. Unfortunately, summer recruiting season is almost complete, so App will have his hands full finding players for next year (2015-16).

Stay tuned for more good news for Williams....

Return of fraternities?

nescac1

Frank, I would bet that Williams will eliminate football before it brings back fraternities.  I'd even give you 10:1 odds ...

Wesleyan's gift of the Elia Kazan papers to Williams?

amh63

Frank U....me thinks your fellow Ephs fans do not understand your humor/wit.
I wonder if anyone does. :).  Still, you took the bait.  I tried to avoid responses that belongs on another board....like the HFC at Williams decided to coach somewhere in the Middle East, after the success he had this Summer.
I thought maybe  Amherst decided in honor of the new Williams Library....to return some almost 200 year old books.....still I have to admit that "fraternities" is outside the box thinking.

frank uible

At Williams "fraternities" is a shibboleth.

What a great hire by Williams.

I am a big fan of Kevin's. I got to know him a little bit during his time as Mike's top assistant, and I think he's a great coach and will be a great teacher/mentor for the Williams kids.

With Mike's departure from Williams, I was looking forward to not having to worry about personal friendships when the Panthers battled the Ephs. I guess that moment was short-lived.

Frank U.....your last post stretched my "biblical" knowledge.  Had to turn to my wife for help.  Aware the term is from the Book of Judges and relates to a "test".  My wife states that it's meaning is secondary to the how it is used.  In the biblical context it was used to reveal a person's origin...a test.

My wife now thinks that my time on this board is not completely a waste! :).  Plus K to you Frank.
My apologies to other BB posters :)

Amh63 - this is a bit like a dream within a dream - but I think you passed the test and the proper use of the test all in one!

Congrats to Williams - by all accounts - seems the program was transitioned to most capable hands.

Interesting hire by the Ephs!  I have to say that I was expecting someone (much) older, but I am very much looking forward to seeing what Kevin App brings to the table.  I have to think that the pool of applicants was incredibly strong for this job, so I am sure that Kevin has a lot going for him.

In other news, I am not sure if this has been mentioned here earlier (I have been on hiatus for the summer) but I hear that the great Joey Kizel will be taking his talents to Israel to play for Kiryat Ata in that country's second division (the same division in which Willy Workman competed last year).  In fact, I think there may still be some chance that Kizel and Workman may end up as teammates this year if Willy doesn't make it to the Israeli Basketball Super League this year after his very fine showing last year.

Either way, I hope Joey and Willy keep safe and continue to do the NESCAC proud!

Any word on where Toomey and Mayer might be headed next season?

WPI...Really?...glad to hear from you.  Hope the Summer find you and yours well.

Amherst Stu05...thanks for the info.  With respect to Toomey and Mayer...no info...however, you can never tell with those North Carolina boys!   Read somewhere that Toomey was going to spend some time on the golf course...being a good golfer.  Didn't a young Irish golfer win some Major Title this past weekend?   Does Ireland have a pro basketball league?
