Does Ireland have a pro basketball league?

Peter Lynch has been playing rather well for DCU Saints of the Irish Premier League.

General interest question - If a player transfers from a D1 school to a D3 school does he need to sit out a year?  Based on what I have seen of D1 CFB transfers I assume he would not have to wait a year to play.  Just curious.

middhoops

Nope.
They play right away.

P'Bear....to the best of my limited knowledge, which is quite limited....the D1 player can play without having to sit out for any length of time.  In the case of Amherst, the Arizona transfer is expected at practice this Fall

On another Maine related matter.....this past Sunday, my wife and I went downtown to see an Andrew Wyeth showing at the National Gallery of Art.  Ended up at a new eatery for lunch called Luke's Lobster.  Mural on the wall was by a Bowdoin grad...class of '09.  My son in Brooklyn said there was also a place in Brooklyn.   Would you know anything about this new chain...any Polar Bear connection?

No, I've never heard of the chain and don't know if there's a Bowdoin connection.  Sounds like an interesting place though.

Yes on the Bowdoin connection -- Luke's is owned by the Holden family (father and two sons). One of the Holden sons (Bryan) is a recent Bowdoin grad and former lacrosse player. I believe that the mural was painted by a lacrosse teammate. Bryan manages the Washington location and is also the managing partner for the company. The other son (Luke) is a Georgetown grad and also a former lacrosse player.

P'BEAR ....on page 1197 of this board there are several posts by others of the U. Of Ariz. front court player to Amherst.  Amherst needs experienced quality players to battle Swords and the likes of Tufts' front court.  Amherst's needs backup players with body size, as George is presently underweight and there is the uncertainty of the recovery of the starting center.
In addition, you will see the other D1 transfer to Amherst...bonus info....a backup PG, I believe.

There is a Polar Bear connection to the Luke's Lobster chain.....also a Colby and Yale connection.  The new chain has three places to date in D.C, 5-6 places in NYC and one in Phillie.

Frank....how did you know that my wife had a Lobster roll?  Avoided the Maine brew beer and chips :)
Also the art.

Thanks for pointing out these posts - definitely missed those.

One the one hand it's amazing that HBC Hixon is able to recruit such high level players consistently.  It's a real testament to the strength of the program he's built and I have a lot of respect for that.  On the surface it looks like these transfers will be able to plug some holes immediately.    That's a remarkable recruiting job........on the other hand as a Bowdoin fan I can't help but find all this more than a tiny bit annoying.

NEhoops

The recruiting success at Amherst and Williams can certainly be based on the prestige of the school and the success of the program. Transfers are hard to get in the NESCAC. The deadline comes and goes before the basketball season is over. In most cases the transfers know they want to leave and have made arrangements to do so before the season ends. Most transfers were initially recruited by the school that they transfer to when they were in prep/high school.

Mr Workman has signed with a team in the top league in Israel.  2 years.  Pretty cool.

GingerB....thanks for the info!  Smiled a bit when I saw you address Willy as "Mr"!  Plus K to you for that.

August is fast approaching!  Classes start the 2nd of Sept. this year for Amherst!.  FY and transfer students arrive the 24th of Aug. for orientation.
Saw on NERR that a Framington CT HS senior player has committed to Marist....Obi  Momah...a PF. I noticed for several reasons.  It is the HS that sent Pollack to Amherst and Momah's older sister...both as BB recruits.  His sister, entering her senior year, was a talented front court player.  I remember seeing Obi in the stands watching his sister play in her FY.  She decided to concentrate on her studies..medical career...and did not play afterwards.  I had heard that Obi was a player to keep an eye on.  I believe he was around 6'2-3" tall three years ago and well built.  Obi is now listed at 6'6".  Seems the Marist staff was aware of him.  He is a highly ranked NE player.
