Hey Amh63, Dylan Sinnickson cut his hair.  Seems to be having the opposite effect of Samson.  22 and 13.8 through four games.
Somehow I think you'll improve on last year's 'PV' references.  Looking forward to it.

MIDDHOOPS....noticed the new style, but have not seen his outstanding play to date enough to inspire an appropriate nickname....one not to arouse the blood of the Panther fans.  He does seem to have the hops of a jackrabbit around the basket.  going back in time to the gods of Greece/Rome maybe for inspiration.
Today is the Iron Bowl for me to watch!  CAC games seem to be on Pay TV lately...i.e....Williams vs Skidmore at the Union College Tourny.

Did anyone catch the Colby/ENU game? Just wondering what happen as Colby was off to a pretty good start. According to he box score Colby shot percentage was at a higher rate than EN. Only discrepancy in the box score was the high number of steals EN had on Colby. Can anyone out there paint a picture of this game?    Thanks

I didn't get to see that one, but I have watched a couple ENC games this year.  They've pretty regularly played sloppy in the first half, only to clamp down defensively and limit turnovers in the second.  They've opened 7-0 so far and most every game has played out that way.  ENC's not yet playing to the level they did last season, but when they're on, they're a very good defensive team with smart guards.

Just looked at the box score of Williams-Skidmore. Good game - two good teams. Suggest you don't foul the Ephs (31-34). I look forward to nescac1's analysis.

Wow, the Iron Bowl results was almost a BB score! Anyway, several good games on tap for me to watch....MIddlebury contest is available and there is a potential WBB game...Williams vs ECSU of interest for me.  Have to do my chores first!
See Dylan Sinnickson is honored this week.  His face on the CAC website is a little like the Clint Eastwood stare in the early Italian cowboy movies...have to change my direction wrt to a possible handle for Dylan.
Do notice the many BB games are between members of different conferences....nice!

Well I'm guessing Nescac1 was off changing diapers or something and didn't get a chance to see it.  The link wasn't posted until game time and it cost $8 as well.  These were two evenly matched teams with Williams having a bit more talent and that was just enough to get them over the top.  Skidmore reminded me a lot of Springfield the past few years, you have to beat them because they are not going to beat themselves.  Very disciplined and played well together as a team.  However, when it mattered down the stretch you could tell which team had the experience and which team was still trying to figure out how to win.

Ephs won this game with 3s and FTs essentially.  Outrebounded their opponent 37-23 even though Kilcullen was giving up a lot of bulk in the post.  Once again it was all starters in terms of scoring.  Ephs got 83 pts from the starters and 3 from the bench.  Something new for Williams is App likes to use the offense/defense substitutions which I'm a fan off.  Starting at the 2:30 mark he was able to put in Aronowitz for Greenman and flip them back and for at least 3 or 4 times before the end of the game.

Middlebury up 10 at the half against RPI. The Panthers are able to generate quite a few good looks from 3 point range, but only hit on 3 of 10. It's interesting that most of Midd's scoring comes from transition or threes. Very little working the ball into the big guys. I guess the big guys aren't the main scoring threats, but First Year Nick Tarantino had a couple of nice inside moves toward the end of the half.

With Daley and Nidenberg in street clothes, we are a guard- and wing-oriented team. Still, Tarantino did show good post moves today and Churchill can also be productive, so we'll see how this facet of the offense progresses over the course of the season.

Hope to post further thoughts about today's victory over RPI later...

Midd still a work in progress but a very deep one.  Lots of options for Brown when he looks down the bench.  Freshman showing poise, a very good sign. If Nidenberg and especially Daley can chip in at some point, Midd might surprise as the season moves along.

A good weekend for Williams. Both Skidmore last night, and Union tonight can score points. Williams really needed to step up their offense to get this win, particularly since the 3 ball wasn't going down. Ryan Kilcullen, Mike Greenman, Hayden Rooke-Ley, and Daniel Wohl  all played  really well tonight. First year Chris Galvin has assumed the backup PG role, and has been a very pleasant surprise. Though this team will probably never scare anyone with their rebounding prowess, if they continue to improve as they have been, they may surprise some people. This team has begun to compete really, really hard. They are fun to watch.

What do you do when a team you have down by 10 at the intermission comes back and shoots 73% from the field in the 2nd half?  RPI's three main scorers Tyler Gendron, Josh Dugas and Brian Hatcher, 21,20 and 15 points respectively went an unconscious 12-13.  Throw in the less impressive Chase Almond's 4-7 and the the Engineers' basic scoring threat was a mere 16-20.

But this is a solid Panther squad with a lot of weapons.  When the starting 5 doesn't click there are 5 other players Coach Brown is just as willing to utilize.  All at the same time if necessary.  The primary players on the floor during a 17-4 run in the 1st half that turned a 1 point deficit into a 12 point advantage for Middlebury were Tarantino, Jones, Huff, Brierley and Daly.  They got it started.  A Chris Churchill lay up finished the run.  The senior played some quality minutes and owned the teams only two blocked shots.

Sinnickson scored 18 points and grabbed 8 boards but 13 of his tallies came in the 2nd half.  The same for 8 of Merryman's 11.  St. Amour shot 4-5 from the floor and the stripe for 13 points to go with 5 assists.  Jake Brown's game sheet includes 14 points, 5 assists and 6 steals.

As for that bench, perhaps the second starting 5 would be more accurate, they played 78 minutes.  They grabbed 18 rebounds.  They stole the ball 4 times and they dished out 6 assists.  And 29 of the team's points are theirs.

In answer to my opening question, that's what you do.  With Daley and Nidenberg in street clothes.

Bates beat a scrappy University of New England team on the road on Sunday 101-85. The Bobcats never trailed and got double figures from all five starters. Malcolm Delpeche scored a season high 21 points on 9 for 13 shooting while Billy Selman went 8 for 11 and 21 points. Malcolm had only one foul.

Its hard to say if this team is for real yet as they have only one win over a quality team (Babson, number 23 at the time). The 5-0 start is the best for the Bobcats since 2006.  Also, they have yet to face a team with a strong presence in the paint. It will be interesting to see how the Boornazian, Delpeche, Delpeche combo will fare against a strong team with size. The Bobcats should continue to be fun to watch...

I forgot to mention the most significant event in Pepin this afternoon.  Old Guy has returned to the building.  Everyone sitting around me mentioned they sensed a subtle but clearly positive energy that had been noticeably absent last season.  Although there were no Cameroonian recruits to be seen the OG family was well represented by Young Guy, Old Girl, Young Girl and a rare guest appearance by Younger Young Guy.  Middlebury '36 or '37 I'm guessing.  With the mojo working on that level the lads from Rensselaer Poly could have shot 93% from the floor in the second half and not have stood a chance of winning.

It's good to have you back OG.

Yes I agree which is why this Thursday's Bowdoin v Bates game will be very interesting.  UNE has been their only common opponent (until tonight's game).  Both Bates and Bowdoin won their respective matches handily: Bates by 16 and Bowdoin by 19.  But they did it in different ways.   Bowdoin only allowed UNE to score 45 points vs the 85 that Bates allowed.  Perhaps this reflects a fundamentally different approach - e.g. Bates pushing the tempo vs Bowdoin locking down on defense and focusing on a half court offense?

Both Bates and Bowdoin dominated the boards - they each finished with a double digit advantage on the glass.  The most interesting line from the Bates - UNE game was that Bates shot 81% from the charity stripe on 21 attempts.  That's much better than the 64% they have been averaging for the season.

This will be a revealing week for Bowdoin as the P'bears travel to Babson tonight, Bates on Thursday and then host Colby on Saturday (first time playing in Morrell gym this season).  Keeping everyone healthy and out of foul trouble will be key if the P'bears are going to maintain their hot start to the season.  That's just difficult to do with 3 games in one week with 2 of them on the road.

Good luck to the P'bears tonight as they face Babson!
