Yes...the Herst2&4 was a player on the Olson led championship and I believe he is speaking from his heart...welfare of the the team in his comments.  Should not get in the middle of two law school graduates :).
Think in leadership viewpoint, overall team thinking.  The Herst was selected a captain in two team sports..Football and MBB.

jayhawk

agree about that edge !
spoke with another outside objective observer who said same thing
Perhaps Ray Barry if he can get up  to speed may provide it
Tufts may be the challenge if can bring an edginess because they have two tough inside players

TIAJeff....wrt to your "Irish" description of play.  Think I understand...full disclosure here....i have no Irish connection in any way...truly!  I do have a inner city playground BB history of sorts.
I believe you see in TMac a TOUGH competitor personality on the floor.  After your statement, I thought of a great former coach in the ACC...Frank McQuire?..at Duke?  Remember he was a recruiter in NYC...bringing Irish named ball players down South to play ball.  Great tough players...several all-American level players.  There used to be a story about the coach and his city bred Irish ball players related by both his admirers and distractors.   The story goes....he likes his Irish city ball players.  Will keep putting them in a game until he finds the hot shooter.
Other posters needed to correct name and school.  Do know that another ACC coach at GT...Irish name...also had a NYC "subway connection".  The players were ethnically different but had the same mindset.  Loved the challenge, to compete.
In an interview after the Un of Miami win over Duke in Durham, the star guard commented that he loved the chance to compete against the best...a transfer to the"U" with a Hispanic name that drove inside to score against much bigger players.

Both parents of Johnny Mac played basketball for Amherst what may help to set him apart was that in high school for two years in a row he was an all league defensive back and split end and accounts for part of hist "toughness" and aggressive approach to the game.  J Mac gets a fair number of steals which is part of the reason he stuffs a stat street.  Now he is focusing on basketball.

Jayhawk...Good info....thanks.  Knew about the father but not the mother.  Also interesting about the football background.

Bucket

In celebration of life's rich pageant comes this blog post from Mrs. Bucket (please don't tell her I called her that). Little Bucket had his first game last night, which, as you will see, turns into a reflection on Middlebury basketball.

Congrats, Bucket.  I'm sure Jeff Brown is watching closely :).  Hopefully, you've picked up a few coaching tips from him!

Little Bucket has been a fixture on the Midd sidelines for years, high fiving the players in warmups.  The players love having him around.  According to a reliable source, after only one game, he goes left better than Bucket ever could.

Will find out if Jumbos are contenders or pretenders after this weekend. Amhurst/ Trinity back to back. Coming off great effort against Middlebury ia a start. Jumbos played better with one twin tower as Sabety was out and team stepped up effort  and play.  Talent is there.  Palleschi played as we saw two yrs ago as ROY and Tarik Smith took over as lead guard for first time this yr   Coach Shelton needs to figure out how to get the most out of  towers on the court at same time.  This weekend will tell. Hopefully Sabety is healthy to give Coach the challenge.

Just a slight correction to the coach you gentlemen were referring to. That would be Frank McGuire. And before he coached in the ACC at UNC and USC, he coached at St. John's from 1947 to 1952, where he played his college basketball in the 1930's. That was why he had such a pipeline from New York City. He is not related to the legendary,  former Marquette coach, Al McGuire, but he did coach Al McGuire and his brother who both went to St. John's. Frank McGuire was, without a doubt, one of the greatest coaches that ever lived.

Congratulations to Connor Green for scoring his 1,000th career point, as a Junior.  Should be a very challenging weekend for Amherst, with Tufts and Bates back-to-back.  Any word on whether Sabety is back in action for Tufts?  He was in street clothes last weekend against Middlebury.

Bucket-
Differences aside- what a fine looking boy- wish you the best as you enjoy the journey with your son.
Maybe he will wear the Blue and White someday.

Magicman...came thru again ...plus K because I can :).  "G" vice Q...can't spell too.
Al McGuire was  the coach that has his name on the floor at Georgia Tech? If so, saw him walking down the street...King Street... in Charleston.  Talked out of retirement to coach at Un of Charleston.  He raised the Program there but left before the new BB facility was finished...I believe.  Saw the new building under construction.  Another venue on my bucket list.
Jeff Mullins is the All-American player I associate with Fran McGuire!  Hope I am correct there.
Interesting timing in my household.  My sons and their wives arrive from NYC in about an hour.  Hope to get them to watch the Tufts game.  One couple was with me in LeFrak two years ago for the Amherst vs Tufts game.  They enjoyed the live action...a LJ win.
